Redlands Grill by J. Alexander’s

Okay, first things first. We called ahead to get a table for 3. The hostesses didn’t write our name on a card… So they gave our table away. It was only when we asked how long it might be that they even realized their mistake.
Then, we were seated. The waiter was fine at first. He recommended the filet mignon over filet medallions because of how they were prepared– great! We appreciated his advice. However. One of us ordered sushi as a meal with a dip appetizer. The sushi came out at the same time as our salads. It was ridiculous– he knew it was meant as a dinner. So the sushi sat at the table for a good 20 minutes. The waiter saw this and said nothing. He reached over it to clear plates and didn’t ask if there was a problem. Then, he basically ignored us all evening. It was terrible service– he actually stood at a table behind ours and flirted with people there. He stood there for a good 20 minutes telling other patrons where to go for steak and sushi. Maybe if he had gone to work there instead he would have been a better waiter, but I doubt that. He never refilled our waters either. It was truly terrible service.
One last thing, I would hope anyone who knows even a shred about sushi would realize this, but their sushi is terrible. Like worse than gas station sushi, which is hard to do. The rice was stale and completely fell apart when we picked it up. They were using super low quality fish (it was ground up, not even a whole piece of fish) and who the hell mixes unagi sauce with spicy mayo?!
All in all the steak was fine, but the service was TERRIBLE. Was pretty frustrating to go in and spend a lot of money but be ignored and treated condescendingly by our waiter.
Would not return.

By request of my aunt we went back. This time I had a steak. Ok, here they hit it out of the park. The steak was perfectly seasoned, nicely aged, tender, juicy and cooked to a perfect rare. My aunt, who is not known for finishing her meals, devoured every last piece of her steak and all her mac and cheese.

Food is great, service is OK. pricing a little bit on the high side.
Minuses: Too dark to see where you eating. WAAYYYY TO FREEZING COLD! makes you very uncomfy

I’ve returned here a few times since I wrote my last review, and this place has always been consistently good. My most recent visit was to enjoy dinner for 2 on a Sunday. We were seated right away, given menus, our orders were taken quickly and the food was served in a good amount of time.
On this night, my friend had the prime rib with mashed potatoes, while I had the «steak & fries». The steak was very good, came with a pat of herbed butter and the fries were also tasty. My friend also enjoyed his prime rib, and though he asked for the smaller cut, it was still HUGE!
No complaints at all for J Alex’s. Food and service are always spot on, and the prices are fair for what one gets.

The service is grand! We stopped by Sat evening without a reservation and they were packed yet the quality of the service was superb. The lady bartender was so friendly and made killer drinks. Amelie, spelling, was courteous, paid attention to details and SO NICE! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive to our needs.
The menu offers variety of options. I was very happy with sushi appetizer and Trout special. The steak that my bud ordered was delicious and cooked just right temperature. We highly recommend this place!

We weren’t greated for 10 minutes but I understand it was busy and we had like 5 different servers serve us I wasn’t sure who was our waiter. Was kinda upset because one waiter sold us the fish then immediately said they were out of the fish. But eventually towards the end I was satisfied, Very attentive servers. Every server that walked by stopped to see if we needed anything I will definitely return I understand it gets busy

There’s nothing like the Redlands former J Alexander’s in Fort Lauderdale. The cocktails are over the top fantastic and the service is extraordinary. Sit at the bar on Saturday afternoon and you’ll be transported to another world. Try the chili.

I had been here once before and remembered it was good and gave it a try once again. I had the 16oz steak NY sirloin and it was really good. But I did try my friends steak which was in coffee & Cumin season and that was amazing. I will go back for that next time.
Service was great, greeted at the door with a smile.
Nice selection of wines.

I can’t get over this place. I’ve been coming to J Alexanders for more then 5 years and though the menu has changed, the quality of the resident it self has not. If you are in the Ft Lauderdale area and don’t mind spending a little more, I would make it a point to come here for a lunch and a dinner at least once!
You’ve got to try one of their martinis, one of the best I’ve had and they have so many flavor options. Their food is also delicious! They have salads handhelds and entrees so there really something for everybody in your party. Every time I’ve been here I’ve taken home a to go box because of the portion sizes! My rant and rave will include something that isn’t on the menu– the chips and salsa. You need to try their chips and salsa, just ask your waiter!

All I can say is excellent! The service was great and our meals was delicious. I took the advice of my fellow Unilocalers and tried the carrot cake. It was so good. The price was worth it.

I’ve always enjoyed this place — atmosphere, food quality and service are 5 stars!
SUGGESTION — imagine how cool it would be if the BAR area was redesigned at this location… No booths, but a LARGE CIRCULAR BAR to encourage a local ‘happy hour’ crowd — with an awning going to the outdoor patio. Special bar menu like Mortons? How cool :)
MANAGEMENT — please take note. More profit margin for vodka/​tonic than a chicken sandwich, right?

Every single thing on the menu is amazing. Very knowledgeable crew, especially the bartenders. They know how to make martinis for sure!
Their other locations are just as superb.

Always great food and great service my favorites are the steak burger, Thai Kai Salad, and the pork tenderloin. Great lunch prices and dinner is also reasonably priced.

Disappointing return. Lunch was light on patrons and heavy on staff. Soup of the day, Tortilla Soup, was uninspired and bland. Tried to make up for the lack of depth by overloading the cheese. The Caesar Salad was fine, but not great. While the lettuce was crisp, the dressing was thin and watery. The timing of the service was way off, with the soup and entrée being presented within 2 minutes of each other. With all the choices available, J Alexander’s had better step up their game.

Since I last reviewed J. Alexander’s in the year 2011 there have been a few changes. First off, though still a part of a the J. Alexander’s Holding Restaurant chain, they’ve altered the name either to that of J. Alexander’s Redlands Grill or, though all the signs remain the same with the exception of a brass plaque and menu notation, just Redlands Grill. With the exception of a step rise in prices and what I noted as being a cut in the size of serving portions, everything seems to remain the same. It still very much has the same lackluster service, the chainy feel and at best food of rather mediocre taste, flavor and quality.
They have however added some «Today’s Specials» of which I tried the beef carpaccio covered with an arugula salad, $ 17.00, which unlike some of their other dishes I’ve had, surprisingly good.
The one good thing about this J. Alexander’s or Redlands Grill location is that offers ample parking with the spaces marked off in sufficient size so that there is little problem opening your car doors without banging the car parked next to you.
However, because of what I would consider near ridiculous prices for small portions, the chainy feel and unenthusiastic service, I’m going to stick with my former two stars.

I absolutely love dining here! I like sitting at the bar, having great conversations with my neighbors and bar tenders and enjoying a glass of wine. The food is consistently good, they have a large variety of foods (seafood, beef, chicken, salads, etc).
Here are some of my favorites:
Alex’s Salad– great! I always go for the champagne vinaigrette it is sweet with some tart and goes great with the salad.
Tuna Steak– great and not too flakey! I had it served black and blue style and loved it.
Ribs– fall off the bone and absolutely delicious. My husband orders these everytime!
Chicken– Rotisserie style and great! Seasoned perfectly and very moist.
Side– the Couscous is out of this world! They are large and Israeli (pearl) style but seasoned great!
This is a go-​to for us! They accept call ahead reservations, which is great when you decide last minute to go out for dinner!

Average food, seems like a new waiter starts everyday… I have lunch here about once a week and it’s okay… It’s easy and a great place to meet up.
The bartender (Kim?) is pretty cool and very laid back. I guess if I have to eat here, the bar offers the best seats in the house

Well, it’s no longer J Alexander’s, it’s now «Redland’s Grill».

This was by far the grossest thing I have ever eaten. It was some type of rattlesnake chicken entrée and it was just a pool of oil. How would anyone think this is ok to serve someone? I ate two bites and was done. My boyfriend also got the burger and it was bland and so wasn’t the fries which were ridiculously skinny and tasted like the potato sticks in a can we used to eat when we were younger. I know for sure we will no be visiting again.

The hubby and I went here for Valentine’s day and the wait was two hours long. Luckily we called ahead and got our name on the list so didn’t have to wait too long. While we were waiting we decided to go to the bar and enjoy 2 rounds of grey goose martinis with blue cheese olives, which the bartender made perfectly. We decided we wanted to take our drinks outside to enjoy the nice cold weather that we hardly get in Florida and sat at one of the tables outside not knowing that they were for «eating only» as the very rude waitress told us and insisted that we get up and not sit at any of the empty tables. Its Valentine’s day and I didn’t want to argue so we just got up and stood until our table was ready. As we were waiting we saw an older couple sit down where we were sitting and she did the same thing to them, and they were not having it and made the girl cry. I don’t know what her problem was but she was very rude.
*Note to manager– Dont have sitting outside on a cold day so your employees are pissed off because no one wants to sit and eat at there tables*
So now lets talk about the food. For appetizer we decided to get the calamari which was very good. For our main dishes, I had the prime rib with the «smashed» potatoes and my hubby had the grouper with mac n cheese. I loved my prime rib but the potatoes were bland to me. My husbands grouper and mac and cheese was fantastic! We ended with one of my favorite desserts the carrot cake. They melt the frosting which makes it so yummy! If you love carrot cake you definitely need to try it here.
All in all J Alexanders is a great place to go and eat.

Went w/​friend yesterday. Very crowded (vacation period) but they manage mostly to keep it all together with some hiccoughs… Missing flatware brought over instantly w/​profuse apologies.
Had the cesear (split w companion) ant then strip and steak frites. A tiny but over cooked but we like alarmingly rare, hard to find in the states. Mac and cheese excellent !
Would go again off peak hours though …

Been here a couple times since it’s close to me. I love this place. The ambiance is nice and definitely classy. like a classy steakhouse in a way, with leather booth seats.
I love their food here and ever since I first came here, I ordered the steak and fries ALWAYS. But for some reason I felt adventurous today so I ordered something else– the pork tenderloin and instead of the smashed potatoes as a side, yes it’s smashed on the menu, not a typo. I ordered their mac and cheese instead. All I can say is, I should’ve never strayed away from my system. If it’s not broken don’t fix it right?! Man I regretted my decision quick. The sauce for the pork tenderloin was delicious though. It was a sweet chili bang bang sauce. But the pork tenderloin? Ehhh it was dry. The Mac and cheese was delicious!
My co workers ordered the roasted chicken and prime rib. For dessert we ordered the pumpkin cheesecake looking thing and the awesome chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream.
Their food portions are pretty big. Our waitress Heather was so wonderful that she even wrote on our to go boxes what’s inside the box so we would know which one was which. We didn’t even think of that request, nice of her!
Food is great. I recommend the steak and fries, medium well! Always on point, especially their seasoned fries. And lastly I recommend the chocolate cake! There’s a lot of business people that come here. I will continue coming here and recommend!
