I had a horrible experience with the sushi here. Yes it was cheap and tasted okay-ish at the time, but it gave me the WORST food poisoning I’ve had in my entire life. It took me days to recover completely. Not to mention the shoddy service and dirty tables… I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone I care for.

GOODHAPPYHOURSPECIAL! Look on their website for specials! Sushi is decent when you need to get a cheap fix.

I have visited this location twice. Both times the service has been slow and the food has been mediocre. I was insulted that they charged for«refills» on hot tea(which was really just charging me for a Lipton tea bag). Furthermore, when I visited the location with a large group we all got our entrees at different times which made for a crummy dining experience. I’ll never go back again. Twice is enough!

NEVER coming back! This place is absolutely horrific. How on earth this place is still in business is beyond me! This used to be a hot spot, the place to be, now it’s dead — and for very good reason. Sunday night, Cowboy game is on, bar area is slightly busy, and they have one bartender, and one manager on duty. Service here is beyond pitiful. Took us 20 minutes to get our drinks, and another 30 to get our salad and apps. I had to ask for soy, napkins and plates after the main course arrived. Shouldn’t have to ask for these things! The two rolls that I did have we’re sub-par at best. The quality has decreased tremendously here, along with the service. We actually canceled our second round of rolls, and left after letting the manager know their service sucked. He blames it on the kitchen, easy out. I feel sorry for that poor bartender. He worked his butt off, and was extremely nice the entire time. Hey Chaucers — catch a clue! The place SUCKS!!! (This is being posted late, but I forgot to post… and I think it definitely needed to be posted)

I ahve been here twice for Sushi and both times the food has been good. The music on the weekend is really bad and the waitress can be a bit non attentive. That said if you go on Saturday night between 9 – 10 you can get 3 basic rolls for 10 dollars. They were good and made for a great inexpensive date with my SOL. They had special everyday. We did not sit in the bar area so I can not comment on that.

Loved the waitress but OMG, the music they were playing! I felt like I was in a rave with 18 year olds and it was a DEAD Tuesday night! We said something to the waitress and she said that is just what the manager played… hmmmmm? Ok. Rolls were great, sashimi just ok. Pineapple sake rocked but then again if you have enough, there is never bad sake :) A little bit expensive for the portion size and ambiance unless you love Rave music…

Don’t know what has happened but they’re just another Japanese place that does decent food. Sorry to see this change in quality and attitude.

Chaucers needs to extend their Happy Hour special. Ending it at 6pm is ridiculous, since a lot of people don’t get off work until 5 or 6. It probably would help their business. On a side note, the music the female bartenders like to play is whack!!! Playing decent Top 40, R&B, and Hip-Hop(without the cursing) probably would attract more customers and probably get them to stay longer. Just my .02 cents.

Doesn’t deserve a star… Horrible service. Dirty menus. Waited a while for a table when there was only about four people in the whole restaurant… what’s that about? Manager didn’t care about the mistake my server made and charged me $ 10 more than what I shoud’ve paid, when I said something about it they said it was my fault for ordering wrong. I ordered KANI sushi and she charged me for CANDY sushi which was more than twice the price of kani… The food wasn’t great, I felt sick after. Needless to say i’m never returning.

I don’t think I’d go back to this location. They use to have better food. It doesn’t seem the same here. The service sucks too! Chaucer’s in Addison is a lot better in my opinion.

This place must be where folks go to be trained in sub-par service and upper-case«MEH» sushi. I was a tag-along for a recent lunch at Chaucer’s, and after my meal, I know why I’ve never heard of or been interested in going here. Had a few minutes to look up prior reviews on Unilocal to see what it was all about, and honestly, I was quite relieved I wasn’t going to be paying for the meal… so, nothing like a little risk, eh? My other two work colleagues, who are fans of this place and it’s BOGO lunch-time sushi, actually commented how horrid the service had been in the past to me AND to our waitress who turned out to be adequate; she must be new. Some things about this joint that make it feel sleezy and unsanitary: — Early 90’s upscale motif blended with left-over sports bar neon advertising…7th grade boy desgner interns maybe?(sleezy) — Menus(both laminated picture books of rolls as well as sushi insert) were not clean; FYA: these are supposed to be wiped down… bleck…nothing nastier than handling a greeeeezy laminated menu before you eat(unsanitary). — More than one vendor(beer guy, soda guy, some other dude looking for payment) are allowed to trapse through the middle of the restaurant… most even low-class joints restrict deliveries during busy lunch hours, and honestly, I can’t recall the last time paperwork was signed in the middle of the service floor surrounded by patrons. The manager-type(unresponsive, scowl-laden dude in poorly fitting ‘suit’) was there to walk around and pretty much nothing else. I acknowledged his presence on the way in and out, and neither time did he look up from his phone… wow. Although our primary server was nice, as we ordered several rolls/sashimi plates, others were called in to run, and they were about as friendly as dude-with-too-big-a-suit…absolutely no smile, no ‘you’re welcome’ nothing… just rude. And btw, none of you are that hot, so get over it… you just look angry. To top off the wildly unresponsive staff, the first plate of sashimi had tuna that was not fresh, in fact, it had a fish odor and was promptly returned. Our adequate waitress apologized, «sorry about that» but never offered a replacement or compensation… like I said before, since this wasn’t on my dime, I’m not fightin’ for it. Just a weird overall feel to this place. unfriendly, so-so very American inspired sushi(sweet sweet and more sweet). Apparently the way to see this place is with very thick booze/beer goggles. First time was plenty for me! Final question: how, oh how, does this place survive? Folks, there is much better out there without the attitude and funky fish… just sayin’ Need a place where mediocrity rules? Look no further! pk

Pros: Seated promptly and inexpensive Cons: Serviced sucked and the sushi/sashimi caters to the taste of white folks. oh, the dishes/utensils were still dirty. I had to wipe them down… I lost count of how many times we had to flag a waiter down so he can refill our drinks Our party of 15 was probably the most Asian this place has ever seen. no joke

Pros: I thought the sushi rolls and sashimi were very well thought out and tasty. Particularly the Sashimi Roll and Geisha Roll. Cons: The service here just flat sucks. Tried to call in the order as I was taking it to my wife and her friends at the hospital where she works. 6 attempts to call. no answer. No worries, I’ll sit and have a beer while I wait. During that beer overheard the people laughing about not answering the phone. Bartender was condescending and trite… After I got my food I made comment to the joksters about not answering the phone, which validated me just a bit.

TERRIBLESERVICE! I work close to Chaucer’s and a group of us goes here just for the bogo lunch deals but after what happened today we will NEVER go back. It is really sad when you are excited to receive decent service but that is definitely the case here! Today, after waiting 30 minutes for our rolls, the manager informed me that she didn’t feel like our service was poor and that we could chose not to eat here again. I have never had an incident where speaking to the manager actually made things worse! Just a warning… don’t fool yourself into thinking that you will get in and out of this place if you have a lunch HOUR. Hopefully they understand why their parking lot is always empty(only 4 tables were seated) when all of the other restaurants in the area are full. Poor service and a useless manager does not breed loyal customers.

Hubby and I got here around 2 and it was maybe 1⁄3 full. We were seated immediately. I was surprised the hostess brought a highchair for our toddler shortly. Even at most family oriented chains you have to remind them twice. Our waitress was a sweetheart. Normally i would not pick Chaucer’s but it was a Saturday so the fish SHOULD be fresh. The food came fast and was okay with the exception of 2 rolls. We ordered the Black Pearl, spicy Tuna roll, super volcano roll and Geisha roll. I highly recommend the last two. Hubby is not a fish person yet he gobbled the last two up, I was lucky I got a piece of each. I was surprised since none of my friends recommend Chaucer’s. Maybe its just this location that is good? Never been to the one in Addison so I can’t compare. Overall it was okay, nothing new or special. And with the lunch special the price was decent. $ 44 for two with drinks and a kids meal.

Love this place for HH, half price sushi, big tv’s, one of the only late night $ 3 U CALLITS in town on a weekend, and they have 80’s dj on some nights, top 40 on others, it’s just a great time typically. my most recent visit was me and 2 friends, on cinco de mayo(i know i know) and they had $ 3 mexican beers, $ 3 u call its until 7, etc, so we had a great time. you can sit on the patio as well, and that’s enjoyable on a good day. big bar area, always good service– we have come here for my fiancé’s birthday a few years ago, after other restaurants, for sunday afternoon hangover drinks, for games, etc, we’ve pretty much come here a lot. the management are always very accommodating if we have ever had a problem. seriously, most of the time they can fix pretty much anything if you have a problem. always good sushi and the dallas and las vegas roll ROCK. if you came once and didn’t enjoy it go back and see if your experience is different…

If I could have chosen zero stars, I would have. The service in this place is ABSOLUTELYHORRIBLE. I went on Valentines Day, 2010. After being seated, it took a few minutes before a waiter came to get our drink order. Ice tea and a coke with no ice shouldn’t take 10 minutes to prepare, but it did. I specifically asked the waiter for sweet n’ low at the time I ordered, and again when he brought the drink. It took another 10 minutes to bring that. Don’t even ask me about refills. I ordered some sushi, four rolls in total. The first roll arrived with the entrée for my guest, about 30 minutes after we ordered. About 10 minutes later, he returns to ask me if I remember what I ordered, because the other rolls hadn’t been made, and he didn’t have the sheet anymore. I asked him to find the order sheet, and to return with refills.(This is nearly an hour after arriving.) The next two rolls arrived 15 minutes later, along with the waiter bringing the check, and prompting me to pay«whenever we were ready». I reminded him about the 4th roll, and refills(again). 15 minutes later, the 4th roll arrived, and I requested a refill again. I finally received a refill about 5 minutes later, after the manager asked what I was drinking on his 15th pass by the table. The final tally was nearly 2 hours at the restaurant. There were 5 other tables that were seated, fed, and checked out while we were still waiting on food. I will never visit this location again. It was literally the single worst time I’ve ever had at a restaurant.

Chaucer’s is what I expect in any western-catered Asian restaurant, but add the TVs around place gives it a bit of a sports bar-like feel. The food was decent probably because I did not expect the food to be authentic at all. Of course who would have thunk that you could sip sake and eat sushi while watching the Cowboys game? :)
