This is my favorite afghani restaurant ever! The portions are HUGE!!! And the prices are super cheap. The food is always really freshly made! The meat is perfectly bbq’ed and tender. My favorite is the chicken tikka. They come out perfect every single time. The lamb and beef options are also delicious! You can order anything on the menu and you won’t be disappointed! This is a family friendly restaurant!

This place use to be good, but now they really fell off there quality, the portions became smaller there rice taste bland now and the white source is more watery. The prices are cheap but I rather pay a little more for better taste

Awesome food. Try it you won’t be disappointed. You will Pay $ 16 or more for this quality of food in Manhattan. Just think of hala cart food but to another level. CASHONLY so be prepared.

The Place has lost its touch. I came to find out why, however. The original owner has split with his partner and has moved to Main Street, near Queens College. The new place which he has opened bears the same name as this one(you cant say this was an amicable separation) and the food taste the same as it did when he was at this location. Also, I am not too sure if the food is halal here anymore. I know for fact the the one on Main Street gets his meat from a halal butcher.

Don’t ever put negative reviews, but my friend and I both got food poisoning from here. I’ve been here many times before but the first time I had the kobediah kabob and I have been extremely sick #Day3

This restaurant has very reasonable portions and quality for their prices. For the all inclusive price of $ 8.50, you receive two skewers of chicken tikka kebab, a large heaping of rice, bread, and a side salad. I like that their menu offers many combinations and has pictures of all of the items. Parking in the area is very manageable.

This place is one of those places you pass by and never realize until you’re around the area and Unilocal for a place to eat. I came here for lunch with 3 friends. Parking was relatively easy to find because it is within a residential area. There were plenty of seating around the time we went(12:30pm) but it quickly started to fill up. This place is cash only so make sure to bring cash! I had #17 on the menu which is chicken kufta + rice + salad. The salad is just salad you get when you order halal from the carts: lettuce, tomato, onion. There is no dressing on top of it. The rice is pretty good but bland as there are no spices on it and the chicken kufta was decent. I probably would stick with the chicken tikka next time. They give a ton of rice and two chicken kufta so I ended up taking half of it for home. My friends ordered #2 which is lamb and chicken tikka and beef kufta also with rice and salad. They really enjoyed the lamb tikka but the beef kufta to them reminded them of hamburger like it tasted like hamburger and not grilled beef they imagined. I would maybe give them another chance but I would most likely drive to flushing for arya :)

Delicious Afghan food!!! The food is amazing and always so good. I usually get the rice with 1 chicken kofta kabob and 1 tikka kabob. The order comes with free bread and salad which is a plus. The prices are extremely cheap! I have been coming here for years and have no complaints. I have also catered food from Bakhtar several times and they always meet my expectations. They do not accept credit card or debit cards. Cash only.

Yummy yummy food, great prices, kulfi options for dessert. A place for meat lovers, but give them a little time to prepare the food, it is well worth the wait!

I loved this place back in the day. But, the past couple of times I’ve come here, the meat on the kabob has gotten smaller, and the Kabuli rice now has less raisins but plenty of carrots? IDK, but it was the fact that they had enormous portions that made this place a gold mine! Now its like all the other Afghan kabob houses. But, Its still pretty tasty! Happy Unilocaling!

Bakhter halal Kababs, Bakhter halal kababs, try saying that fast 5 times! Regardless of the pronunciation you get humungous size portions of food here. Bakhter halal kababs is embedded in a residential area of Fresh Meadows Queens. Seemingly hidden away from the main bustle of commercial traffic. Come hungry because portion sizes here are a plenty! Try the Chicken and lamb tika and beef kufta you can’t go wrong. I feel the spices are not as pronounced in the food, but the food is delicious and prepared fresh since there is a little wait once you place your order and when your food comes out it’s nice and hot. A big plus is the white and green sauce bottles are at each table so you can put as much or as little sauce on your food. There is no wait staff, just place your order at the counter, pay and have a seat. When you’re finished eating you can leave the plates on the table, they will clean up after you, I usually leave a $ 1 tip since I feel guilty about letting someone clean up after me. My only 2 gripes about this place is the rice is not as fragrant and tasty compared to other Halal places and they only accept CASH and no credit. Their menu also feature fish, chicken sandwiches and french fries. The restaurant has no private parking lot and 1 hour meter street parking is available, you can find free parking around the residential homes by the restaurant. Overall if you need to stuff your face and stomach with some decent kababs this is the place.

Food goodness to price ratio is amazing. Cafeteria style Afhgan-y styled diner food(burgers/fries)? I had the lamb kebab with rice. Not only was the rice cooked with onions and fresh spices, rice itself actually had tiny pieces of the veggies and spices. Personally I prefer this, adds extra texture and depth to plain ol’ rice. The meat was like most other middle eastern venues aka average. Ditto for the various sauces. Didn’t expect to be blown away by this hole-in-the-wal,. Certainly came here expecting cheap comfort food and Bakhter delivered on that expectation.

My boyfriend took me out to dinner here for our first date. I was literally never going to call the kid back again after I first walked in. There was no waiter service available and it looked like a fast food joint; I was heavily unimpressed. As much as I wanted to walk out and leave him there I stayed and I ordered the same thing he did which was the chicken kufta over rice. To my surprise it was awesome! The chicken was so flavorful and tender and their white sauce was very delicious, it complemented the meal well. I never had Afghani food before so this experience was definitely a good one.

The secret is in the white sauce. Although the meat and rice platters by themselves are somewhat ordinary, the white sauce makes the dishes pop. The restaurant is clean, but a bit dated. Overall, this place is definitely worth a trip for the tasty chicken and rice platters.

The food isn’t phenomenal, but it’s cheap and it’s good– then again, anything drenched in white sauce is good. Don’t get the burgers/fries; go for what they do best: the rice and meat. Their beef and lamb kababs are pretty good, I find their chicken dry. All of the kuftas are great. I was super excited about the lamb chops, but if you’ve ever had decent lamb chops before, you’ll be disappointed. We always order takeout because the service is awful. Overall: good food as long as you try the Afghan food– don’t bother with the American food.

I’m not really sure why this place has bad reviews. They, hands down, serve THEBEST Afghani food you can find in all of Queens. Their chicken kebabs absolutely melt in your mouth and the complementary bread is the best pair! I think people need to realize that this isn’t a high class fancy restaurant. No ones going to stop by your table and fill your glass with water or constantly check up on you. You want soda? Go up and get it. This is kind of a fast food restaurant that serves amazing food! Its a must go. And it’s amazing for crowds too.

Came here last week for the first time. A heads up, they don’t take credit/debit cards. But they have an ATM in the lobby. Awesome food, I got the Chicken tikka platter. My friend had the lamb chops. After taking a bite of his, I wish I ordered the same. Next time I go, I will definitely get the Lamb chops.

While I have had better afghani food in flushing, Bakhtar is not bad at all. Food is pretty good overall. All dishes are mainly combinations of different kind of meats and rice; sometimes it’s hard to make a choice. I tried combination 1 this time which comes with lamb chops, beef kabob, grilled chicken boneless pieces and brown rice. Quality is pretty good and so is variety. Chicken was the best and beef kabob was 2nd best. Chops were a bit chewy but I guess that’s how lamb chops typically are. At the end we took green tea which was awesome. I would recommend this place for sure.

Walked in and immediately felt out of place, which is always a good sign when patronizing a new and exotic restaurant, however despite initial impressions, I was extremely underwhelmed by the food at this establishment I ordered the number 1 and number 2 combos here, which was just a variation of chicken kebab, beef kebabs and lamb, one with bone and the other without, white sauce was decent but nothing to write home about, while the green sauce was definitely forgettable. the dish was just your standard meat and rice combination dish(althought a tad bit pricey for what is was), the rice was extremely plain as there was barely any spices, aroma or fragrance, and the meat was just as bland. Overall nothing at this place really wow’ed me, the spices here were really bland as if they were nonexistent. Overall you could do much better than this place for kebobs

Went here with my cousins 1 night. After hearing good things about it, I decided to try it. I was expecting this type of place to be quick, from the lack of décor, they made do with quick Afghan food. Was not a fan of the beef kabobs, but just get the chicken kabobs with rice. Comes with a small salad. I recommend eating with some white sauce and green sauce. Place gets packed too. For what it’s worth, it’s more than enough food.

Walked in hoping it lived up to the hype. Everything was okay until the food came out. It was absolutely terrible and the waiter didn’t even give water! Definitely overrated, and I’m guessing the restaurant owners just had their friends give them good reviews to attract customers. Bad food, bad service = never coming back

This place isn’t for people expecting top notch customer service and fancy cutlery lol. It’s basically an Afghani fast food(ish?) restaurant with decently priced BBQ options with a tiny American menu to go with it. Get their chicken Kufta kebab with rice, drench it with white sauce and prepare yourself to be in a state of trance: D Their chicken tikka is good too, as well as their beef options which I only go for on rare occasions. The mango lassi is delicious but way too sweet so don’t make the mistake of drinking it before your food arrives; it will fill you up and you won’t enjoy the food! OH! Major Advice! Never ever come here on Christmas. I know American restaurants are closed so us brownies have no place to go besides good ol desi/halal joints but Bakhtar’s is ALWAYS jam-packed AND understaffed. I say this because I have been here the past 4 Christmases lol and believe me, you will be waiting around 2 – 3 hours just to get your food and the waiter will most likely screw up your order because he is so overwhelmed by the hoards of Muslims coming in from literally all over NY.

I love their food. They have the best white sauce which makes the rice and salad taste 100 time better but its not like the rice needs it. I can have it plain plus they give a lot of meat. The prices are good, the portions are huge and the burgers are even yumms

I ordered chicken tikka and beef kofta with rice. The moment they placed my plate down in front of me, the beef reeked of the smell of blood, the meat was not cleaned properly. The chicken tikka was only ok bc it was tender not tasty, the rice wasn’t anything special. It basically had no flavor. I went on Saturday night. It was very crowded when I got in but we got seating right away. It’s self service, meaning take your beverage from the freezer yourself. The staff was nice but the waiters avoid looking at you when you need them. The space was good for groups. Large portions but couldn’t bare the stinge from the meat so couldn’t finish it.

I’ve been coming here for 10 years now. It’s reasonably priced and their Afghan food is delicious. The American options they have SUCK but I’m not really coming here for a burger. Their portions have definitely gotten smaller throughout the years but I just order more food :) I also hate the fact that it’s cash only. I have tried almost everything on the menu but now I always get the chicken tikka with beef kofta. The meat is always cooked to order and the rice is so good I can eat it alone. The white sauce and green sauce are on point as well. The place is packed Friday/Saturday nights especially if there is a movie playing across the street. No parking lot but I’ve always managed to find parking without an issue. I’m glad to see that the food quality hasn’t decreased over the past decade!

This is my go-to Afghan food place. It is ridiculously cheap(around $ 8 a platter) and serves large portions. One platter can easily feed 2 people with leftovers. The only downside is that this doesn’t have a nice ambiance. You wouldn’t go here for a date night or fancy birthday. There are basic chairs and tables and you have to serve yourself water/soda, so there aren’t any waiters. It is a very casual environment that is good for a family just to sit, eat, and converse. Tipping is optional. Although Ali Baba’s has a nice interior and is well-suited for events, the food at Bakhter is definitely better and more flavorful.

Great food, fantastic prices. Two of our friends suggested this place for Sunday brunch. We decided to give it a go since we all love kababs. Getting here is a pain in the ass because it’s in bumblef*ck Queens, but it’s well-worth the trip. From the outside, it looks like a fast food joint. Photos of the combo meals on the walls, long/round tables with chairs, fridges stocked with drinks(no alcohol here, it’s Muslim). Once we were inside, however, the smells of all the different foods took over my nose and I knew we were in for a treat. We let our friends who had been here before do most of the ordering. We started with a family combo platted which consisted of chicken, lamb, and beef kabobs over a hearty place of rice and a side of salad. The salad was good, the chicken was amazing, the beef also blew me away(I don’t eat lamb). We ordered the rice with currants and sliced carrots. The sweetness of the rice definitely helped in cutting back on the flavor from the meat, as well as the white/hot sauce on the table. We ended up ordering more chicken, as well as more beef which came along with more rice and salad. We were completely stuffed by the time we left. The bill? $ 97 for 7 of us. I’d say that’s quite a deal for the amount of food we received! They also offer sandwiches, burgers, and some good-looking hot wings if kababs ain’t your thang.

If I had to pick a favorite restaurant for Afghani food, it would be the original Bakhter Halal Kabobs in Fresh Meadows. Why do I call it «the original Bakhter?» Well according to the signs all over the establishment this Bakhter Halal Kababs is, «the original, one and only branch.» They suffer from others coping their name… I think the equivalent would be how there is Gino’s and Ray’s Pizzeria everywhere but they are not related. Two of us ordered the #8 on the menu called the«Family Combo» which came with 6 skewers for $ 29. –2 Chicken Kufta –1 Beef Kufta –1 Lamb Tika 1 beef Tika –1 Chicken Tika rice, salad and bread(I asked them to please put the strips of carrots and currants on the rice, my fave way to have Afghani rice. The combo deal rice will not get the carrot strips and currants unless you ask for it.) This combo could have easily feed 6 people, depending on how hungry everyone is. We had left overs for the next two days. The portions are huge because it’s a family oriented style of eating and dining. I can’t wait to go back to THEORIGINAL, ONEANDONLYBRANCH, Bakhter Halal Kabobs.

Great food and prices. You can’t go wrong with the amount of tasty food you get served up here for the low overall cost. Walk out with a food baby! Delicious rice and kebabs. Chicken tikka, chicken kufta, lamb tikka, beef tikka, lamb chops, and beef kufta were all really good. Plenty of combinations on the menu. Dat basmati rice tho. Yum! Décor is pretty much meh, as are the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Just passable. Service was ok for what it was, and drinks are self serve(soda cans/water bottles) out of the fridge. Cash only. No booze. We had seven people here over the weekend, were all totally full, and the bill before tip was less than $ 100. We even took some food home there was so much. That white sauce is the shizz! Hot damn I want to pour this stuff on everything and lick it off. Including my own body!
