I put a review into City of Fremont concerning the replacement of the bridge along Alvarado-Niles Blvd. It describes a meeting that was held Oct. 21 at the Macao community center in Niles. I attended because I wanted to know when Niles Blvd. may get closed to vehicle traffic. Please read under«City of Fremont» but the answer is that traffic will be maintained almost entirely during the construction. While I was there, I noticed how easy it was to park. I almost went in just for the noveltyof it into a bible study group at the Revival Tabernacle where I parked.

Such a fun place! Lots to do and there are often events going on so check the calendar to see whats happening before you make the trip. Full of Antique shops, and several places to get a bit to eat, you can spend all afternoon browsing. There is also a little train museum and if you become so inspired you can take the Niles Railroad to Sunol and back. Be aware that this is seasonal and they shut down for most of the winter with the exception of a Christmas express in December. Plan an afternoon here and that should be plenty of time.

I was born and raised in Fremont and grew up seeing NILES on the mountain top but for some reason, returning as an adult, it brought a tear to my eye. Probably because i spend the entire day just me and my daddy! The steam engine 2472 was making its once a year appearance so I joined my dad in following it up and down Niles Canyon to get those perfect picture. I’ve been downtown a few times recently but not for the trains. I ride with the Fremont bike club and we often meet at the train station. The whole area is adorable and it warms my heart to see it pretty much the same so many(many many) years later. It was a perfect day to bum around Niles with my pop.(Diet coke is served at many locations in Niles. Now you know.)

Little known part of Fremont and the East Bay. It’s not a place that most Bay Area residents know about, and so it’s not super busy. It is however, the spot if you like antiques. There must be over 20 stores here, a couple of classy restaurants, and even a slightly famous biker bar. Don’t forget to check out the history with the train and film museum. Not somewhere I’d visit terribly often, but definitely an easy thing to do on a Sunday afternoon.
