I have eaten Indian food for 40 years — in private homes and restaurants. Guru makes the best Indian food I have ever experienced. Their tamarind and cilantro sauces are perfect. Butter chicken is always a great dish, but here it is superb. Or for an inexpensive lunch, have the samosas. Order the biriyani to take home and you can feast for days. This food feeds the soul.

Food is delicious, and the atmosphere is wonderful. We got the chicken curry and butter chicken. We ordered medium spice, and didn’t find it to be spicy at all. We will probably order hot next time we come. Very attentive and friendly service.

This place is awesome. Great food great and atmosphere. Had the buffet and what I like about it is the vegetarian options they offer.

My biggest weakness is the Indian Buffet. Guru has a large selection and it’s far better than others places at a lesser price. This restaurant has friendly servers and the atmosphere is nice. It’s a very relaxing typical Indian restaurant. I highly enjoyed.

Went there 9PM Saturday. They were nice to accommodate all of us. The food was good although 2 chicken and 1 paneer dish had essentially the same curry. The spice level was controlled very well according to our wishes. Overall, a good experience and will go again if we are in the area.

Love this place! I have been coming here for years and they never disappoint! Very classy atmosphere — white tablecloths, fancy serving dishes and great staff. The bar area is cute as well. Never had a bad meal! I have had the chana masala, naan, shrimp biryani, tandooris, vindaloo… Probably the best Indian restaurant I’ve been to. Try it, you’ll love it!

This place is great! Moved here recently and tried a place that was supposedly better. No way, this one has it hands down. Came in for the lunch buffet, they have all of the standards… butter chicken, tandoori, vegetarian options. All was hot, fresh and yummy. Will be our new go-to place for sure.

My boyfriend and I go here for lunch every time we’re in the area. The food is always delicious and the service is impeccable. I find myself craving the butter chicken! I highly recommend Guru to everyone.

Back in September when I first came to Fredericksburg, Guru was the first taste of Indian food that I had tried. I was very impressed with the fresh tastes and the colorful variety they served at the buffet. The mood/décor is very relaxed and the staff is polite and friendly. They’re not overbearing but always notice when we need something. I return there regularly whenever I get a chance and recommend it to any of my friends that haven’t tried it yet. They’re prices are very reasonable considering that they always use fresh ingredients.

First time in Fredericksburg arriving on a Sunday night — found Guru on my Garmin and thought Indian sounded nice before hitting the hotel. Arrived at 8:30 to find 2 other parties dining, both Indian, which increased my confidence. Friendly wait staff though had a hard time understanding what he told me about the wine I ordered. Extensive menu, so I ordered the papadum, mulligatawny soup, and chicken vindaloo sans potatoes. I was surprised to find the papadum cost $ 2.00 when in many other fine Indian restaurants it is complimentary– oh well, it’s a fav. The soup was hot and flavorful. The big disappointment came with the chicken vindaloo. While the sauce was fine, the 7 chunks of chicken were barely hot and very dry, almost flaky. My guess is that it was leftover from the buffet or prepared earlier in the day and warmed up. Chicken freshly prepared is piping hot and moist — this was just the opposite. I hate to be harsh, but restaurants can’t warm up old food and pass it as fresh, even at 8:30 on a Sunday night. Again, just a guess on my part. The other parties seemed to enjoy their food. I did enjoy the soup and rice. Advice to the owners is to prepare each and every dish to order as if you were serving your own family. Two stars, I hope others have a better experience.

Wish I had read the reviews before stopping into Guru! I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was not at all what I expected and really disappointing. The reviewer that said that Trader Joes masala was better is completely right! And it costs almost ten bucks less. Guru’s Tikka Masala was not at all creamy like it should be and had large cuts of onion and pepper that I assume were added for flavor because the basic, very thin, tomato sauce was lacking. I also stood in the restaurant for a good fifteen minutes, walked through the front door multiple times, said«hello» loudly until I finally decided to call their contact number from INSIDETHERESTAURANT and that is when someone came out to answer the phone and saw me there. I will definitely not be returning to Guru. I’m bummed I spent so much on this meal.

Seriously .if you call your self an indian restaurant the least you can do is get the chicken tikka masala right. Why is it that a chicken tikka masala has so many onions that I have to struggle to find the chicken in it? Come on guys a smooth creamy sauce is not that difficult. If I want chicken and onions in a tomato sauce I will as for that. Saag paneer. try to remember to put some tomato sauce in that dish next time. Sorry to tell you fellas that Trader Joe’s frozen chicken tikka masala was better

My boyfriend and I tried Guru today for the first time and we were very pleased with our food. The restaurant was very clean and the staff was very friendly. I read some reviews that said the restaurant was very dirty but that was not what we experienced. The food was good and they offer great variety, the prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be coming back.

We went to the restaurant for my son’s birthday dinner. They had a buffet and the food was ok. When we were taken to our table, it had not been cleaned yet, and we had to wait for the waiter to come back and clean the table– yuk… Dirty plates, glasses, etc, and spilled food on the table top. Then they ran out of plates at the buffet and we had to wait for more plates. The butter chicken had no chicken in it, just sauce. I complained and they did bring more out at we were finishing our meal. They ran out of plates a second time… The restaurant was only about 2/3−¾ full with some empty tables, so the lack of service and attention does not make sense. Don’t know when/if we will back … Not a good experience.

Overall Guru is a pretty good Indian Restaurant, however sometimes they are inconsistent with the taste of their food. My fiancé and I use to come here all the time and it was good, but one day I came with my family and it was not good. I then came back with my mom and fiancé and it wasn’t good, so we stopped going for awhile. My fiancé and I tried it again today and it was really good. Idk, I guess a break from something every now and then is always good. We normally always order the chicken curry with garlic naan and raita. The times we went and it was not good, seemed to be that the chicken curry lacked seasoning. Today we had the butter chicken and other things bc it was a buffet and it was really good. The staff is and has always been very friendly and the ambience is nice. Overall I would give Guru another try especially after today. It’s worth at least one try.

Awesome food DELICIOUS!!! Mango Lassi some of the best I have ever had! The mango lassi is amazing. We ate the buffet and had a chance to try a wide array of dishes. The ambiance is nice, the staff friendly, the food is delicious and the price is right.

Of all the places to eat in Fredricksburg, very few meet the standard set for me by guru last night. The food was spectacular and the atmosphere was inviting and calm. It was a small place, and I’ve seen it before without giving it a thought, but now I wish I’d tried it earlier. Oh my god. The food was well prepared and perfectly seasoned. I definitely plan on going back, because this place got something right! They deserve every star!

I really wanted to love this place. My husband and I enjoyed the ambiance and samosas. We had just received our entrees(butter and curry chicken) when a roach crawled on to the table and started licking my knife. We’re not ones to make a scene. My husband shooed the roach off the table and I squished it under my shoe. We finished our meal and left. We won’t be returning. 11÷13÷13 I don’t have the time or care to prove my experience. Rather than being demeaning, I encourage all to try this restaurant and make their own judgements. I simply shared my dining experience here and I will do the same with my family and friends.
