Just ate here. Food was good, employees were awful. I went up to order and wanted to try many varieties of the food, so I ordered the 2 meant plate and also a half of rack of ribs. They told me the ribs would take 10 minutes so I said that was perfectly okay because I could eat and then they could bring them out when they are ready. Well, I ate my entire meal and saw a man who ordered much later than me walk to sit down with ribs on his plate. So one employee told me they would be right out. The man who had ordered his ribs much later after me had by this time finished his food so I figured I’d wait 10 more minutes. After the time had passed and still no food I decided to go up and check on it. I went up to let them know and merely asked why a man who ordered ribs way after me has already eaten his ribs and yet I still haven’t gotten the ones I ordered. The response from the employee I got was«Well, do you want the ribs or not?» I asked where the manager or owner was and was told they were out at caterings. Needless to say, I won’t be back without the owner or manger there. Food was good, service was awful.

Traveling on I-95 exit 126 vicinity. Worth the extra couple of turns off the highway for a lunch stop. Great brisket and chicken breast, the sides are all good. First time eating here will eat here again. Free ice cream. Bonus!

We had some really great food!!! The ribs were outstanding, ate plain as rub was all it needed. The pork and tangled bake(stuffed baked potato with pulled pork and onion straws) was also very good. We ate the pick three all brisket which was tender and juicy. We also had pick two. The sides were good but coleslaw was fair. We will be back.

This was my fourth visit to Dickey’s — and it was a bit disappointing! The barbecue was OK; however, the slaw did not taste fresh or look appealing. Also, I have concerns regarding the cleanliness of the work station where the meat is handled — especially the scales where the meat is weighed. The staff seemed rushed and the cashier spoke so fast that it was difficult to understand him. The restaurant was not busy — one table of customers and one person in line behind me. However, on this visit, the quality of the food/service did not measure up to the cost we paid for our meal.

I am so glad I found this gem a few months ago. There are quite a few bbq places in the area but none of them are great but this one is EXCELLENT! I have been here many many times over the last few months and the food is always extremely fresh with a wonderful smokey flavor. I have tried the pulled pork, ribs, turkey, brisket and sausage and I was not disappointed in any of them. The sides I have tried are great too! My favorites are the pulled pork with cole slaw(cause you have to put cole slaw on your sandwich) and the green beans. Customer service is 5 stars too! The crew is always friendly and helpful and never lacking in the smile department. If you have not already tried this barbecue place, do yourself a favor and visit it soon! Highly recommended.

Food is good, staff very nice. If I was having an event they would cater it. The beans are amazing, sauces awesomeness

Really great barbecue. You get lots of meat on your sandwich and it is tasty. Could be a little faster service, but worth the wait!

Wonderful pulled pork and great tasting bbq sauce! Got the mac n cheese and the potato cassarole as sides and the bread is always so tasty and soft! Definitely recommend. It was a bit on the pricey side but then again, which bbq joint isn’t?

I go here whenever I am craving pulled pork. My boyfriend never gives me a hard time about going either ;) He loves it all. The brisket, pulled pork, etc. Very good service every time. If the line is long, they do hustle to move it relatively quickly. Highly recommend… I think I just figured out what’s for dinner! Oh and for the ones who want a vinegar sauce, they do have it behind the counter if it’s not out with the other sauces.

I don’t care what these other people say… the pulled pork was great!!! an ohhhh the onion rings. The barbeque sauce was just right… and best of all, the price was right. If you crave barbeque, go there. mmmmmmm

I am very picky about VA bbq and I loved Dickeys! I have eaten all around the state and this was still some of the best! The pulled pork sandwich was perfectly done and the Mac and cheese was great! The baked beans were a little too spicy for my taste but probably wouldn’t be for other people. Love the free ice cream in the store and the souvenir cups, would definitely go back!

My smoked brisket is better. Hate to say it, but it’s true. I went here expecting expertly crafted, quality barbecue. What I got was subpar. Any time I visit a restaurant and feel that I could have done better myself, then there is a problem. The sides were good, nothing to write home about. The beans could easily been Bush’s, and the yeast roll wasn’t even warm.

I’ve been here several times now. And every visit it has gone down a little for me. The sides are just not good. Why? I’m not sure, they don’t seem to be consistent from day to day. I’ve had a few of the sides several times and sometimes they are good and some times they are poor. They also need to train their employees better. I had a pulled pork sandwich last time I went, and I’m slightly put off of pulled pork now. It didn’t taste bad, but the sandwich maker squished a ball of pork on my sandwich. It had the consistency of tuna salad. Not appetizing. Not sure if I’ll go back again.

We were referred here by a family member who frequents the locations more up north, so we decided to try this one. I’ve given it a star for friendly staff, however the service was extremely slow, for having to stand in a line to order. $ 30+ for two people later, our meat was extremely dry and cold. The sides are your typical made-from-a-box or out-of-a-can quality, but I didn’t really expect more from a barbecue place anyway. The ribs had a good smoke flavor, however, it tasted a bit too much; as if they used liquid smoke to bring it out or something. Everything just wasn’t up to par with the price you pay, which is beyond disappointing.

Lunch with Husband at Dickey’s Barbecue Pit. When we drove up, there was a sign that said the sides were made with pride or something like that. It didn’t mention that they were crafted somewhere else and heated up in a big bag on the stove. I had the Westerner with polish sausage and brisket. The meats were good. Nicely smoked although the brisket was slightly overdone and dry. The brisket had a nice smoke ring and both of them tasted smokey. The bun was really nothing to write home about. It was cold and tasteless. I moved it aside and just ate the meat. For sides I had the beans and the«potato casserole». The potato casserole was mashed potatoes. They were not warm — not cold but not warm. The beans were okay. They were more savory and not the sickly sweet type you can get sometimes. The pickles and onions for the sandwich were two pickle slices and two large(but mostly flavorless) raw onions. Both were on the side of the plate. The presentation was silly actually. The team was fast and efficient. We had our food before we had drinks filled. We weren’t the only ones. I could see the food coming out. Also it was Sunday so the kids were eating for free. So in all, this wasn’t the place for us. It’s okay but I was hoping for great. It was fast and clean and it’s okay. Maybe we’ll give it another try and skip the sandwich.

I am not a barbecue person, but my gosh, this place has good BBQ! My only complaint: I felt like I wish I had more to eat for the $ 8 I paid for the sandwich, and the line is a little long(although excused as the person in front was dealing with kids, an they make everything in front of you). Other than that, the sauces were great, an they even give free soft serve ice cream, which my daughter loves. They give out signature plastic yellow cups, which we like using around the house. The sandwiches are made fresh in front of you. The environment and décor is cool. Now, if you are a real BBQ-addict, this may not be up your standards of real southern BBQ. What did you expect? It is a small restaurant where you order at a counter — great for a quick lunch. To give it low stars for not having award-winning sauce or for using hickory smoke instead of cherry/apple, well is just ridiculous. To also complain that they wrap their meats and pull it out to slice it as they serve it is also without merit; Arby’s and other fast-serving meat places do it this way as well. It’s what lowers cost and keep it moist. If you want a fast, convenient place to get some BBQ in a decent, clean and family atmosphere here in Massaponax, then this does just fine, and then some. Otherwise, Famous Dave’s is just down the road, and you are going to pay a small fortune to fill up there.

Good pull pork and turkey. Get sauce on the side. Orig. sauce taste the best. Sweet tea real good. This is fast food. Service is oh, k. Entire Staff hide in the back. We had to go in back to get them to refill tea. This was a Saturday around 8pm. Staff is friendly. Girls(young ladies) aren’t into customer service. Had to ask twice to get tea refilled. I would return if I’m in the area.

Well, the BBQ is moist and tasty, I’ll them that — but the sauces are all tomato based — how about a little Carolina style guys? Vinegar and red peppers — that are a lot of southerner’s in these parts and NC style BBQ would be a real treat. Ordered family pack, and a baked potato — somehow they managed to not give us the baked potato but two orders of rolls(okay, but doughie — maybe 3 more mins in the oven?) Too late and too tired to go back for it so we got the shaft on that one. Since our order was to go, we figured we would get some sauces(there were dozens of them with lids on a tray behind the cashier — but no, she directed me to the spoon it yourself self-serve(but why, we were not eating in… I chalk this up to the hair twisting teenager who was like a deer in the headlights with one foot nailed to the floor, spinning and spinning and getting very little done except creating further chaos. So my first visit ever to a Dickey’s was mixed — moist, tasty BBQ but pitiful service and nothing but 3 red sauces to pick from(and dip it yourself for take out? Seriously?) And NO Splenda for the ice tea. NONE. Sad. Maybe we’ll go back, maybe not — I hate bad service so much I may just find someone else to take my money. And I really have no patience for a mishandled order that costs me $ 8 for nothing.

Just sad! I love Bbq and this was gross, the ribs tasted exactly like beef jerky. I was thinking it then my husband said it at the same time. «way too salty tastes like beef jerky» plus it was dry. the worst part was the staff and service, NOONE had a clue what was going on or what to do, how to take an order or greet a customer and the line took forever because of the poor service. Also they were out of almost everything and it was not even 6 yet. Stay away if u need bbq go to Shaines Rib Shack!
