Blackstone is a clean coffee shop, styled in the early 2000s trend with dark wood and red walls. The drip coffee is stale and regrettable, tastes like burnt coffee beans brewed several hours ago. A major disappointment to me as I walked here from a conference at Mary Washington with high hopes for a great cup of coffee. Cold brew coffee is ubiquitous now, even at Starbucks, but not so at Blackstone. Their iced coffee suffers from the same over-roasted beans as their hot coffee, and the bitter aftertaste and acidity leave much to be desired. The baristas were swift and courteous, and the place is clean with good music. Just such a coffee letdown.

Before we got on the road for a long trip back to Jersey I stopped in to get jacked up on some caffeine. Clearly the jolt of caffeine helped because I made it all the way home. Ordered one of my stand-by drinks(medium white mocha with an extra shot of espresso) and it was delicious. Kudos to the barista who not only made the drink perfectly, but who was also dealing with the b*#!h of a woman in front of me. The woman ordered a drink that was meant to be on ice, but didn’t want ice and still wanted a full cup. Se walked out with it after tasting it, then came back in to complain that it wasn’t ‘right’. I ended up throwing in an extra tip simply because I couldn’t have dealt with this idiot so professionally. If I’m back down in the area I’ll be sure to stop back in… anyone making coffee drinks that well and dealing with problem customers deserves the business.

Best coffee in the ‘Burg. I wish it were downtown, but I’ll make the trip for this coffee.

Blackstone is the best coffee place in the ‘burg, hands down. I love to go, get the African Elixir special tea, a sandwich, and either read or people watch for an entire afternoon. Friendly staff, delicious food, reasonable prices, and plenty of room to sit and relax. Blackstone rocks!

I got spoiled in my college years with the(cliché) local coffee shop, kind of place that Luke from Gilmore girls would walk out of and you could lounge and get studying done. I wanted this to be like that, and it did live up to some of the expectations! The girls that work here are nice as can be, there is ample seating and the environment is nice with some high bar seating, some tables, and some comfy deep leather seats. They have some fun quirks like a wall to write what your thankful for(thanksgiving is soon) and they change their themed drinks monthly(this months is parks and rec so you can get a «treat yo self» or «literally the best drink ever» which is lots of fun. My only issue is the coffee itself. I got a café olé and truth be told It’s not bad, most coffee shops burn their coffee and turn it bitter. This place it’s smooth. The problem is that it’s a bit weak… I’d go for 2 shots of espresso with milk next time. Live and learn.

Honestly, probably one of the top 3 expresso drinks I’ve had. Yummy soy latte. Comfortable little place to hang out too.

The Blackstone Coffee Company is a local coffee shop in Fredericksburg, near the Mary Washington Hospital. Besides, espresso and coffee, they offer cold beverages, chillers, bagels, breakfast options, and sandwiches. I tried their Chai Latte(unsweetened), as it was mentioned that they brew it in house(definitely more on the bitter end, even with the half and half), as well as their Café Miel(espresso with steamed milk, honey, and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top). While the Chai Latte was forgettable, the Café Miel was very strong, not too bitter, and had a nice sweetness to it from the honey, the milk, and a nice little spice factor from the cinnamon. The barista was really sweet, and there were many patrons just doing some work/reading. I just didn’t like the little pesky gnats flying around in the cup lids/stirrers/napkins area T___T Plenty of parking around the bend, but be sure you don’t go the opposite way, as that leads to a dead end! +Café Miel +friendly barista +plenty of free parking in the plaza

BEST coffee around here. When I lived in downtown I was able to swing by more frequent. Medium roast black coffee and a Ham, Egg and Cheese on an everything bagel. YUM!

I keep hoping to find a great bagel place in Fredericksburg. Alas, the search is still on. We have been twice and have been pretty underwhelmed. But for the price, I don’t know that I would go back for breakfast. Maybe coffee.

Really nice little find, great coffee, and some outstanding quiche. Perfect for a Sunday morning. Since my sister moved in around the corner, I sense future visits aplenty.

I’m pretty sure this place makes the best espresso drinks I’ve ever had. I got a sandwich here once, and it was meh, but the coffee… Mmmmmmmmmm.

Friendly local spot with a youthful college atmosphere. They have creative coffee drink specials and this place seems like a good place to study or meet with friends. Got the Café Au Leia which was a light and tasty afternoon coffee pick me up made by a friendly barista.

Nice and cozy Coffee Café, it took a while to get our drinks, compared to other local coffee shops but they were nice enough. Limited pastries in the display case but still yummy and goes well with a nice hot cup of Java. Nice to know that you have options for enjoying a morning cup of goodness in Fredericksburg.

Been here twice during my stay in Fredericksburg. Fabulous coffee place that offers almond milk! Which is great. It’s a college town kind of place which is also nice that the college kids can work here. But not to worry everyone is really friendly and professional. They have decent bagels too. I also tried one of the ice blended drinks and lemme tell ya, DELICIOUS! If you like sweet blended drinks this is also a great place to go. I will only come here when I’m in Fredericksburg. Yum!

My husband and I just moved to the area from DC and we’re impressed. I had a 16oz caramel delight specialty coffee, it’s very nice, and a Fowl Play sandwich — a pecan and cranberry chichen salad sandwich on a toasted croissant with lettuce. The chicken cubes were generous, and tasted light on the mayo, which I liked. My husband drank a 12 Oz shot in the dark, which is a shot of expresso in drip coffee, and a Ben Franklin — a lunch meat turkey sandwich with a very nice pesto, lettuce, tomato and provalone on a Rosemary focaccia. We spent about $ 23 on these four items. There are bags of coffee on display for sale, and inventive additional drinks menu that correlate to Disney characters. There are about 8 wood tables ans chairs and a scattering of leather chairs inside, and a handful of wrought iron seating outside. There is also a room in a semi private room with a large conference size table. There is a display case with two quiches of the day, with generously portioned quarter slices for $ 5 and beautiful sweets… tiramisu in slices, sweet potato cinnamon bread, berry pie bars, salted caramel brownies, etc. There are also displays of wine glasses and a few bottles on sale, presumably wine is available other times of the day. The ambiance was clean, laid back but conversational and the baristas were quick and nice. It’s adjacent to Mary Washington so the tables were littered with students with laptops hunkering in for a study session, and leather chairs where they curled up with books. I suppose we were early on a Saturday at 11am so we didn’t have trouble with seating when we arrived but as we left at noon, the availability was increasingly sparse. I would certainly come here again, and if the owners were interested in opening a location across from the entrance of Lake of the Woods, which has no coffee options but lots of expendable income, I would be happy to suggest location options and assist in the transaction.

Great coffee shop, very happy I discovered them. I have gotten a few specialty drinks and they are awesome and the service is quick. I have yet to try any of the sandwiches but they look amazing.

Solid non-mainstream coffee shop. Nothing super impressive in my opinion. I just popped in for a latte and a snack so maybe I’m missing the ambiance. I ordered a caramel toasted marshmallow latte that was quite good. My tiramisu was rather disappointing… tasted rather flavorless and not very moist. I would probably stop by again if I didn’t feel like Starbucks.

As far as coffee goes this is a middle of the road coffee house. Don’t get me wrong the coffee wasn’t bad, but not amazing either. One thing that was a bit of a bummer is when I ordered my coffee they asked Dark or Medium Roast? No Single Origin or blends, but the normal Dark or Medium which threw me off being this is a place that says they roast their own coffee. This coffee house is smack dab right next to Marry Washington University, and obviously pulls in a lot of the college crowd, and this keeps them pretty busy. Overall I will give Blackstone another try in the future to get a bit of a better opinion on the coffee itself.

Great, friendly place. The sandwiches are freshly made and tasty. Customer service is quick and friendly. The coffee(most importantly) is tasty, fresh and available for sale(whole or ground, if you prefer). They do a great job with espresso drinks and most of the staff can pour a good shot of espresso.
