Why do diners like 2400 continue to thrive when faced with constant competition, chain restaurants and foodie trends? The friendly staff, for starters. Not quite a «Cheers» experience, but I’m pretty sure that the waitresses knew almost all of the patrons, many of whom seemed to eat there on a daily basis. 2400’s food is outstanding as well. By waiting just a minute or two longer than your average fast food place, one is rewarded by an excellent, hot meal. My fried chicken dinner was wonderful and filling. A good value for the buck, as well. Fredericksburg has no shortage of meal options these days, but I’ll definitely make my way back to the 2400.

This is our ONLY place for breakfast on Sunday! Great service, great food, great small town diner atmosphere! They are also the only place in town that really knows how to cook the perfect egg! Too many favorites to mention… but the Mediterranean omelet has been one of my favorite things to eat from there; I could drink their homemade Zanziki sauce!

This was my first visit to this diner, and i came because my friend told me it’s great. She didn’t lie, i can say. I was a little disappointed upon arrival because the menu states breakfast is only served until 2 and i was hoping for pancakes and eggs, but i got there around three. Lo and behold a couple came in after us and ordered omelets! I wish i knew they would have made me breakfast food if i asked for it :( I ended up getting the bbq pork sandwich with coleslaw and crinkle fries. The bbq came on a kaiser roll and was topped with more bbq sauce. I would have rather had the sauce on the side, but it wasn’t bad, just a little sweeter than i typically like. The coleslaw was a little heavy on the creamy sauce stuff, but i just strained it a bit with my fork and put it on top of the pork! I had to eat it with a fork and knife because it would have been too messy to deal with, otherwise. I ate my fries first because we all know how they’re never as good when you warm them up the next day, so i was pretty full half way through the sandwich. I had to force myself to eat the whole thing because it got so messy and i wouldn’t want hot coleslaw if i had to warm up the remainder. My waitress was very nice and she was pretty good. There’s not much for décor, and the windows were kinda dirty, but you can tell it’ll be like that before you even enter. There’s not much space but we came at a time between lunch and dinner so there were a few empty tables. I would probably come back here, for sure! The food wasn’t as innovative as i typically prefer, but it was delicious, all the same!

It has maybe 14 seats available at bartop and maybe 7 booths. Pretty small restaurant but it has that old timey local mom and pop restaurant feel that I’m used to in the Midwest which I love. So I got the Blueberry pancake meal with 2 eggs and 2 sausage(patties) for $ 8.95. I’ll say they’re a little slow getting the food out; took about 15 – 20 to get my food. But it was good. The waitress wasn’t the most friendly but I think it was just her personality. She wasn’t rude or anything. Might have been a little overwhelmed. They were busy. Parking isn’t great but I mean you can probably park 10 – 12 cars outside in the lot. All in all the bang for the buck aspect is there. I’ll be back.

I had a tradition of taking my grandchildren to the diner for breakfast where they lived before on my last day. They wanted to continue it after moving to Fredericksburg. Not knowing the area, we searched Unilocal and found the 2400 Diner. It is quaint and small, but authentic to the diners of the 50’s. We arrived around noon on Sunday and there was a 20 minute wait. We were a group of 4, one adult and 3 children. Everyone ordered something different but each one loved their meal :-). This will be our new«go to» diner. The downside is there is only one booth that can accommodate a party of 6.

Good food, prompt service, courteous staff, reasonable prices. What more could you want Daily specials are a great deal, I also like the lasagna, better than the Italian pizza place in old Town

Get there early as this diner gets busy from the get go, or be prepared to wait if you have your heart and stomach set on eating here. It can get quite cozy, but the conversations at the bar/counter lively and down home. Loved their fall special… pumpkin pancakes made with fresh pumpkin topped with whipped cream and nutmeg… AMAZING!!! Of course it’s only available in October.

Stayed open late to serve us and the food was wonderful. Angela gave us great service and we will be back!!! Just great homemade cooking. Recommend the gyro platter, Fried scallops, or roast beef over white bread.

Seating is extremely uncomfortable and cramped. My shoes kept bumping against the person across from me unless I tightened my calves against my seat. There was a huge indent in my seat as well that caused discomfort to my back. My original seat was a lot more comfortable, but they made use move when I family with kids showed up. They required the larger seating area. I found it kinda rude to make us move after we already ordered. I’d be more comfortable eating on the curb. Employees were friendly. The toast was cold and not crisp. It literally sat around in the back for 20 minutes while we waited for the rest to be cooked. They probably made it first rather than last out of convenience. The homefries or giant slightly cooked potato chunks were very bland. They had onion and bell pepper that was cooked enough. They cooked the potatoes as such a low temperature that it prevent them from browning which further reduces their taste. They cut them in such huge chunks that it reduces they overall surface area which further prevents their ability to contain flavor. Also there is evidence that they cook the potatoes in too large a batch. My friends potatoes were clearly cooked on the bottom of mine while in the cast iron skillet judging by the color and crispness. The over-medium eggs I ordered were just that. Runny yolk, solid white. They know how to cook eggs. Bacon was cold and burnt. Possibly made an hour before it reached my table. Overall I’m very disappointed with this establishment. My 8 year old brother can cook better than this.

Great breakfast and reasonably priced — omelets, pancakes, etc. The standard diner breakfast fare. I haven’t tried lunch or dinner yet. Very small place and it fills up quickly during peak times. Highly recommended for a quick bite.

If I was basing this solely on the food, 5 out of 5 easily. However, I must echo other reviewers comments and think we may be talking about the same nasty, bad attitude hostess that assisted us on Sunday, May 24th. She was rude, and eye-rolling, neck poppin as soon as we entered and it didn’t stop with just our party. If not for our server, which I believe her name was Vickie this would have been a terrible dining experience. It goes without saying that management must notice this non team players attitude and choose to ignore it or do nothing about it. Next time I’ll take my breakfast the same, hold the nasty disposition!

My favorite Grilled Cheese comes from this Downtown Fredericksburg restaurant! My mom and I have been going to this place since I was a little girl. Yes, Grilled Cheese may sound so simple but trust me… there is a difference between a grilled cheese and an AMAZING Grilled Cheese. Eat one of those and you’ll never taste another grilled cheese that will come out like that one. I order 2. And the homemade rice pudding… heaven in your mouth!

Good the typical breakfast food nothing out of this world. The staff is super nice and the atmosphere is fun & kitschy. Every time I’ve been there it’s been a wait for a table so folks must like it

Too crowded, cold in winter/hot in summer with door always opening, long waits, telephone reservations cause people to get seats before you, single eaters taking up full booths, wait service wait times is hit or miss, food cooked slow, very poor service for refilling your coffee, limited parking, the inside is either packed or people are waiting outside for lengthy periods, and prices are not inexpensive. Avoid going on Saturday and Sunday mornings. During the week is not as bad. Ambiance is old school diner. Food is otherwise good tasting and staff is usually pleasant. That’s the only reason I consider going each time. It’s just seriously always a hassle. I can’t do it anymore– the food is not THAT good and there are plenty of alternatives in the area. It’s not worth dealing with all the negatives, especially when you’re hungry. Horrible for kids.

Eh food was so bland. My English muffin was burnt badly and avian food was so bland it was boring. For some reason no one thought we were there to eat so we sat ourselves read the menu for sometime and then someone came along giving us the real menu. It was a small and busy place. Nothing special for me to go back for

I haven’t been to 2400 Diner in many years but wasn’t surprised that when I entered, it was the same olé rude staff that seems to have been there forever. It’s really a shame that 2400 Diner isn’t better because it’s an icon for the downtown area but the regulars keep them in business and allows there to be no changes in quality of service or food. Not being able to find chipped beef anywhere besides southern areas, I ordered it on toast. When it arrived, there was a ton of it but was mostly cream and about two or three bits of beef. It wasn’t the worst thing but what was, was that it was cold. Really? If you’re going to serve heated up items, make sure they’re hot. Yuck. It’s nostalgic, I’ll give it that but it’s not good nostalgia.

First time there, got seated right away however the booth seat was broken and the hostess told us not to lean back, plus we were by the door, little cold. We ordered drinks small OJ and coffee and by young son had lemonade the food was good but we got the bill almost $ 40 for two adults and a kid. My advice here check your check they charged us for large drinks and juice for the kid and when we did question it the hostess got very rude And the waitress said well I didn’t know what they had to drink, how about asking, we will not go again.

I now give it 4 stars. . Stopped for breakfast the day after T-Day. Really good service and the food was especially good this time. Love the extra crispy potatoes and tasty sausage. Most breakfast is around $ 7 or less.

My family loves coming to Diner 2400, or as my kids call it «Let’s Eat». They have a great traditional breakfast menu. Kids usually load up on pancakes, we usually get the eggs bacon hash browns. Simple, a bit greasy but oh so good once a week or so. There are about 10 booths at the place(most seat 4, one can seat 6 – 8); and counter stools are usu readily available. Only bummer is if arriving after 9 on wkd will usu have to wait. Wait staff is usually very friendly and they’ll recognize u pretty quickly if u come in.

I was in town and found 2400 on Unilocal.I was excited about getting a nice breakfast this morning. 2400 was busy when I arrived around 11:30, with two bar stools open and one booth. I ended up taking the booth because I wanted a little room to spread out and enjoy my breakfast. 5 minutes go by… the server takes the order at the booth next to mine, drops that person’s menu off at my table, and goes back behind the counter. She didn’t bother to ask what I wanted to drink, and no friendly hello. 5 more minutes go by… another lady stops at the table and asks what I’d like to drink. I say coffee, but at this point I’ve had more than enough time to read the menu and I know what I want. She says that lady #1 will be with me in a minute to get my order… okay… 10 more minutes go by and I am almost finished with my coffee. I pull my phone out and start scrolling through some of the Unilocal reviews. Brett A’s review sent me over the edge and I got up and walked out. I don’t need to wait 20 minutes to be ignored by people who I probably don’t want to associate with anyway… a shame because I was really looking forward to some good food.
