To be honest, it had been well over 10, maybe 15 years since I’ve had the sbarro’s grade pizza experience of Lallo’s Pizza at the Fredericktowne Mall, so I decided to say what the hell and see if the new location at Willowdale was any better. Well, it was, but that’s not saying a hell of a lot. Arriving a slow afternoon, I went ahead and ordered a large which was about the size of a medium at most of my regular NY style pizza joints, which was fine in that it fit in my pizza warmer that can only take up to a medium pizza,(or large in pizza hut size) I would have to venture that their large was about 14 – 15 inch range. The price was a tad night but not unreasonable at $ 14.xx for a plain pizza. I’m not going to go on too much about the regular pies, but as toppings get dded that price may get a little up there in comparison to a lot of other places. It won’t break the bank unless you’re a starving college kid or someone who gets only a few hundred a week on section eight and an EBT card. Being the only ones at the place and no orders ahead of us, the pizza was about twenty minutes from order to counter. By no means, a fast 10 minutes to make and bake like at Dominos and by far from five minutes as it is at Pie Five. Waits will be longer if there are orders ahead I would assume. Flavor-wise, the pizza was bit flat. The crust was a little underdone, and overall, despite being a fresh pie, seemed Sbarro’s like, possible pre-made, or frozen from Sysco or FoodPro(prozen pizzas and dough need to be cooked longer at lower temps, fresh pizzas higher temps and shorter times). Overall, it was nothing special and considering the part of town, price, and all else, I likely see no reason to go out of my way for Lallo’s when one shopping center or two over is Ilforno’s who offer a vastly superior product for the same price point. And, while marginally better than they were at the mall, I’ll have to pass.
