Outstanding food, service, and atmosphere. From the time we walked in, the patrons were raving about how great the food was. Without question, they were right. There will be another date night here.

My husband and I have been here 3 times now, and we have always had a good experience. Wegner’s is known for their awesome fish fry, but they also have an excellent selection of German and Italian entrees. Located in the more historical section of Franklin, this place has the feel of a supper club and small town bar. And I love that. The food here is absolutely delish! On our most recent visit, we started out with the homemade mozzarella marinara appetizer. Just to note: you only get 2 sticks, but they are on the bigger side. and they’re only $ 3.95, which isn’t a bad price. For my meal, I had the Jaeger Schnitzel. The piece of schnitzel is a breaded pork, and takes up a good portion of the plate. It has a nice buttery flavor to it, and melts in your mouth. It is covered in a sauce containing tomatoes, mushrooms, onion, garlic and white wine. It comes with a side of spaetzle and red cabbage. You also get your choice of soup or salad with the entrees. Note: the beef vegetable barley soup is delicious. My husband had the chicken parmesan. The chicken breast is topped with parmesan and melted mozzarella cheese, marinara sauce, and is breaded with parmesan seasoned crumbs. My husband absolutely loved it. He said the chicken was very tender and not overdone. One thing that I think is absolutely great about this place is how the owners, Dennis and Kathie, are very involved and hands-on with the business. Dennis does the cooking, and Kathie pulls double duty with hostessing and serving. Props to Dennis for the amazing food that comes out of that kitchen. And also to Kathie, for being a welcoming and friendly face to the customers. We will be back again!

I have heard about the great food and fish fries for sometime so I thought I’d try it. This is a small place and I was expecting good bar food. Boy Was I Surprised! From the time we walked in and asked if we had reservations(It was Tues. evening). The German inspired menu was a surprise and it all sounded so good, my only disappointment was that I wasn’t really hungry or prepared for this. To be honest I stopped on a whim and was expecting as I said bar food, I was think I was going to order some chicken fingers. I loved what we had and some of the other dishes I saw being delivered to other table looked amazing including a giant pork shank dinner special which i overheard is only available every few weeks. Lastly I want to add that I like kraut, my wife not so much, but the kraut here was the best ever with a flavor that was great, even my wife liked it, and that’s saying something. My only negatives that are really picky but would have pushed it over the top. Some background music would have been great and it was German this would have really been amazing. Wish I would have been asked to pair a German beer. I was so caught off guard it never crossed my mind. All in all a great place that I will go to again and again and it inspiring me to call my Latitudes Travel agent and get some prices for German Rhine River Cruise!

Not as good as Kegel’s Inn, but much closer to my house. I’ll keep going back for the occasional German dish, despite being slightly overpriced. The neighborhood atmosphere really helps this tiny place seem comfortable, rather than cramped.

Without a doubt, one of the best fish fries in the greater Milwaukee area. The hand breaded filets of perch or cod can’t be beat. Of course, being as tasty as it is, you may encounter a wait for a table. If you aren’t on a tight schedule, it is well worth the wait. Grab a seat at the bar if you can. The bartenders, although busy, mix a fine cocktail. I enjoy the clam chowder” new England style”. Other appetizer on their menu are tasty as well. A choice of sides include potato pancakes made in the German style. IMHO you can’t go wrong here.

When it comes to fish fry, FRESH perch(not frozen), amazing breading, not at all greasy, awesome Wisconsin well known sides, keep it simple stupid, small town feel, have yourself some cocktails before dinner or supper club type of place — Wegner’s is where it’s at!!! I wouldn’t change a thing, not even the woodsy feel and walls. It’s part of the ambience! The dining room is small, only about 9 or so tables. NO eating at the bar because that as where people pre-drink and wait for their table. There are some tables surrounding the bar where you can eat, though. I was told they do around 100 people on a weeknight and consistently 500 for fish fry Friday’s! The side options were perfect: potato pancakes with apple sauce, German potato salad, boiled red potatoes or the obvious fries. I went with the potato pancakes but had to share a side of potatoes with my friend because they sounded so good. This place is basic, simple and most of all good!!! I’d be proud to take anyone here for a good representation of a WI fish fry tradition and relaxing with a cocktail beforehand. You just deal with the wait because it’s all worth it.

I just moved back to the area a couple weeks ago after being away for 8 years. This was one of my favorite places before I left. I was so happy they were still there! Had dinner Saturday night. I arrived a bit before 5:00 without a reservation and got the last table available in the bar area. It is a very small place, but full before 5 shows it’s popularity. I had the German Wurst platter and it was great. Washed it all down with some great German beer too! Service was still terrific and prices still reasonable. As I said, one of my favorites before and will remain so going forward.

Couples Friday night fish fry. Got there around 5:30 pm. Had to wait 45 minutes place is small. The wait was worth it, fish was great along with the clam chowder and potatoes pancakes was superb. Rachel was our waitress which was top notch. Highly recommend this establishment.

First off the older curly blonde waitress is pretty darn cute. I sat at the bar, ordered an old fashion which was good. Had the three piece fish fry special for the low of 9.99 got extra tartar lemons and bread to boot. The fish was awesome great batter. Bartender was totally attentive. This place is awesome. I took my mom!

This is a landmark with VG food. The German offerings are authentic and very, very good. The place is small, historic and homey. I enjoyed my meal and my companion agrees about hers. The restaurant is small so expect a wait at the bar. Waiting at the bar is enjoyable too. However, depending on your arthritis, you may not be able to get into the place. And the staff are impatient with people who walk slowly. And defensive. The age of the building means they have no obligation to meet any mobility standards established in the past 30 years. No need to be defensive about that. It’s a refreshing change from the trendy places. It feels like a members-only club where you will never be a member. Enjoyable and authentic. I love it. It is like a neighborhood tavern familiar in Milwaukee and environs. Well worth the visit —(if you don’t have arthritis.) If the food I had is any indication, then I wish I could get the fish fry. It’s got to be great.

A popular gem located in the historic hamlet of St. Martin’s(Franklin) WI. One of the best fish fries I’ve ever had. Excellent food, great drinks(including their Brandy Old Fashion) and courteous staff. Get there by 4 pm on Fridays to avoid the rush. If you arrive late, enjoy a cocktail or several until your table is ready. The potato pancakes are super. Well, everything is actually. Tip: Order a knackwurst along with your fish fry, and perhaps a few breaded shrimp.

The food is excellent, prices are great, people are friendly. We have eaten there for Friday fish fry several times and enjoyed it but never went on any other night to try their German food which they are known. I had Jaeger Schnitzel. Never had it before but I loved it! It was so beaded port that was lightly breaded, tasty, tender and not greasy — yum! There is plenty of food so I will have the leftovers for lunch tomorrow! The side salad was the best I have ever had. It had onion, cucumber, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, and some little crunchies on a bed of greens. No iceberg lettuce here just lots of greens and goodies! Drink prices are great! You cannot go wrong at this local, family owned restaurant. The owner is the chef. It is not fancy but the food is phenomenal! They had several specials the night we were there that were not of German origin(steak, mahi, mahi as examples) so you can have your choice of several different items. My husband had delicious veal parmesan. Try it you — will love it!

Fantastic experience. Great food, great service, and great atmosphere. I ordered the German Sampler and loved it. I recommend especially the Wiener Schnitzel, Spätzel, and red cabbage. My German companion says that everything was very authentic, if that is important to you.

I’ve been going here off and on for years and I have never had a bad meal or sub-par service. There are a few things to note: *Stopping in without a reservation can mean waiting up to an hour or more for a table. The place is small, with a tight dining room and some tall round tables in the bar area. *The specials are amazing but certain foods will run out fast so try to show up for dinner prior to 8 *The employees are all super friendly and inviting *Parking can be an issue The German fare is pretty authentic in taste partly due to the chef being a former employee of Mader’s. The prices are more reasonable than Mader’s. While the presentation may not be that of a fine dining establishment, the food is always delicious and prepared exactly as you have ordered it.

You really should probably just stop reading and go to Brian M’s review. There. He’s spot on. This place is THE definition for Wisconsin Fish Fry. Cheap drinks, friendly service. Busy takeout window. 45 min to 1 hr wait. And everyone does just that. Waits! This place is small. It gets very crowded. But I gotta tell ya, once we got seated I was watching the door and everyone kept cramming in, and no one left! This to me is the definition of a great Fish Fry. I opted for the perch. It was the best perch I’ve had in awhile. The german potato salad was perfect. I’m hungry thinking about it now! Go to here. This is a great place to bring your out of town guests to get the full WI Fish Fry experience. But be warned — there will be a wait!

Well, what have we here, tucked away in the middle of nowhere? Sadly, a funeral brought me out this way, but happily, life goes on, and we thought we’d stop on the way back home and toast my high school friend and trumpet playing bandmate, CC. We walked into the well lit room, their holiday party was going on, but we were welcomed to stay and have a drink. We ended up chatting with the owner’s parents, a very charming couple! And then we got the low down on this unassuming little joint. The chef is the former exec chef at Mader’s. If you area Milwaukeean, or if you’ve ever been there, you know THISISCRED. The place has been written up in Saveur for their fish fry, WHAT?! We only had a beer on this night, but we will be back, oh yes, we will be back for those delicious little fish fry morsels.

I went to a graduation party at Wegner’s a couple of years ago. They provided the catering, and I was impressed with the food, in particular the tender sliced beef. The menu is primarily made up of German dishes because the chef used to be the chef at Mader’s and it shows. The food I had was solid. I’ve been told that this place had a great fish fry, so it’s been on my list to try for at least a year, and I finally made it in last week. The perch fish fry is available on Wednesday nights, but Friday nights offer more selections. Besides the hand-breaded perch, you can also choose from beer battered haddock, steamed haddock, pan seared orange roughy, cajun style salmon filet, fried shrimp, fried scallops or a combination of some of the items, served with your choice of German potato salad, fries, or homemade potato pancakes. I ordered the hand-breaded yellow lake perch dinner with potato pancakes and apple sauce. Creamy cole slaw and the softest and freshest rye bread I’ve had anywhere were also included. The pile of perch was abundant. The fish was perfectly cooked with a white flaky center and crisp breaded coating, not the least bit greasy. The fish was so good, I didn’t need the tarter sauce. However I did taste it to let you know that it was also good. The potato pancakes were also among the best I’ve had. Crispy on the outside and tender inside with the right amount of seasoning. There was nothing I would change. It was, in my opinion, the perfect fish fry and very likely the best fish fry I’ve had. My friend ordered a fried shrimp and scallop dinner. He enjoyed his dinner very much, but he shared a fried scallop with me, and I thought it had a fishy flavor. So I can’t be confident the rest of his shrimp and scallops were cooked properly, otherwise I’d be giving this place 5 stars. The dining room only has seven tables of 4 seats and the bar area has 5 or 6 high tops with 2 stools, so if you’re going on a Friday, get there between 4 and 4:30 or after 8:00. The other nights of the week, they take reservations. The atmosphere is very much that of a small«townie» bar, but the food would hold its own against the German restaurants in Milwaukee. I definitely plan to go back to try the German dinners and would recommend the perch fish fry in a heart beat. Wegner’s is worth the drive.
