Oh the curse of the Village of Franklin Park. Another business that ended up closing…

I really really loved this place, their cakes and Italian cookies were the best. Sadly, this location is now closed.(please correct me if I’m wrong!!)

I must admit you don’t have to be an Italian Mama to love this place. It has an awful lot going for it. And when holidays and special occasions make it almost impossible for you(the designated cook) to shake, bake, and cake everything; this is a great place on many levels. First, absolutely, the baked goods are phenomenal — we are lovers of their giant cannoli cake and their zeppole(which are actually doughnuts, but not what you might think are doughnuts) these are delicate with a custard filling — very light and scrumptious. Second, I also like the fact that they have available quite a few ingredients that you can pick up like pignoli for your pesto(that’s pine nuts) if you are making a side dish which I prefer to get there because they are always fresh. Third, and this is also super special. If you have never had a pizza made in an Italian bakery, this is the place to try it. They have the regular but they also have a really great sicilian onion pizza; the onions are sweet and delicate. So, there you go. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to eat a piece of fruit because otherwise I’m going to eat like a wise guy.

First time back here in about a month, and yes, I still love this place! It’s Friday, and being Catholic, I can’t meat today(insert very, very, very, VERY sad face here). So of course I came to Palermo to get my fix of pepper & egg sandwiches. They didn’t have any made when I asked, but went on to offer to make some fresh ones for me right there. I took THREE! They were all very very good, and very fresh so they were still hot; and yes, I ate all three myself. Of course I grabbed an arancini before I left, spinach & ricotta, not the meat one. Again the arancini was filling, warm, and was a great compliment to the sandwiches. Before walking out I glanced passed the pastries and saw some cannoli cake! I couldn’t help but turn around and ask for a slice. It was extremely sweet so please beware in case you don’t like anything super sweet. The filling was cool and rich. And it’s topped with a miniature cannoli shell that I used to scoop some of the cannoli topping. I thought it only right to leave a few dollars in the tip cup for the girl who went out of her way to make the sandwiches fresh, and again, I left satisfied.

the rasberry tart did not have«EATME» written on the top in icing, but it did launch me into an alphonse mucha painting where it is berry picking time in summer and good things are about to happen… also eat one of the little green fondant flying saucers, there is an almond breeze that springs from it and blows right through your vitals and makes your hair look fantastic!
