I was hesitant to try a new hair stylist when I went into Hair Designers. Paul Lam is nice, he explained the charges for a perm with/​without a haircut. It took me a couple of weeks to return to make the appointment. I am very particular about my haircut, perm, and hair stylist. Paul introduced me to Bill Yang, and told me he was very good at giving perms. I made the appointment, and can truly say that I am very pleased with how my hair turned out. He explained what I needed to do to keep my hair from drying out, and how to maintain my thinning tresses. I definitely will go back to Hair Designers. Thank you, Bill !!

This is one of the worst salon I ever been to; these people could hardly utter a word in English.
They just ruined my hair! Now I have to wear cap/​hat to cover it up!
So I upgraded the rating to three from one star.
Paul, the owner, came to my rescue. He at least leveled my hair so that it won’t look horrendous!

Went for a haircut last week and was attended to by Paul. He was amazing ! He’s great and really listens to what you want.

Kaylee did my haircut. I love it, it was not very easy for me to explain to her what I exactly wanted as I was stuck between 2 different styles of bob cut (long bob & short bob), but she understood me. she took a lot of time but it was a perfect blend of both the hairstyles.
It was my first time there, parking is very convenient (I parked right in front). And place is super clean.
Overall, great experience. Loved talking to Kaylee!

My daughter went in for a trim, no styling, no shampooing nothing special, just a TRIM!!! And they charged her $ 40! What a RIP OFF. I will never go back to this place again. They make up their own prices based on who you are.

My go-​to place for hair cut. Designer style with decent price, $ 20 for male without hair wash, and $ 25 with. I always come to Bill, a guy with enough experience back to China. He is extremely pro, very detailed and explanative, never sell me services, but advices. I planed to wave my hair, but he convince me to postpone a month or two for better result. This is absolutely the best affordable hair designer place I met in US.

Charged me wrong price and very bad attitude, will never go there again. I went to Hair Designers for the first time today. One of the female employee welcomed me and told me it will be about 15 minutes waiting and $ 20 for the hair cut. So I waited for 15 minutes. Then a male hairstylist (most probably also the owner) helped me with the haircut. The haircut was not bad, but in the end the male hairstylist asked her daughter at the front desk to charge me $ 25 dollars. His daughter hesitated for a second and exchanged a few words with him and he confirmed that it was $ 25. I asked the hairstylist why it is $ 25 instead of $ 20, and he told me that because it was the haircut and hair wash together. I did not want to embarrass a fourth grade little girl. So I paid $ 25 and a decent tip. But on my way home, the more I thought about it, the more upset I became. It was not the $ 5 dollars that I care about, but the whole thing that I was played like a fool. So I went back and reasoned with the male stylist (the owner). And he explained to me they only offer haircut and shampoo together for $ 25. But he also said that they do not usually offer hair wash, blah blah. But none of it made any sense and what he told me before and after are conflicting with each other.
In a word, they did not want to admit they made a mistake and what’s worse they tried to make some BS excuse to make fool of the customer. This is totally wrong and highly unprofessional. I am amazed that someone would sacrifice their reputation to make five more dollars, unbelievable.

I was driving around the area and noticed this spot. Came in and was greeted by Kaylee. I waited about 25 minutes to get a haircut from her. It turned out much better than other places I’d been to. I am pretty picky when it comes to getting the right style!

A review for Asian women with long hair getting a haircut by Kaylee…
I’ve waited 3 weeks to write this review, just in case my haircut would grow on me (no pun intended), but I’m still just as upset as the day I got it cut.
I had post-​wedding, long hair with a digital perm that has gotten dry. I was desperate to cut off the ends, so instead of driving to my regular spot in San Jose, I decided to try somewhere that costs much more, but has decent reviews, experience with Asian hair, and closer to home.
What I had expected to be a 30 minute trim, turned into 90 minutes. When asked if I wanted a wash and dry with my haircut when scheduling the appointment, I said «no», but she still proceeded to wash it. Minus 1 star.
Here’s what happened in the 90 minutes…
She put down my digital perm and tried to sell me on her Japanese perm services despite me telling her repeatedly that I had no intention of getting my hair permed again since I’m pregnant.
Before even cutting my hair, she spent a lot of time telling me how dry my hair was and convinced me to pay for a moisturizing treatment that would take «5 minutes». I had initially said «no» because I hate being up sold, but she kept bringing it up and I knew my hair was dry (which I figured could be somewhat taken care of with the intended hair trim). +$ 50 and persistent up-​selling on perm and treatment. Minus 2 stars.
The haircut. I loved the fact that I had long thick Asian hair, as opposed to the average thin hair. My instructions were to «trim 2 – 3 inches and keep long layers». She made a comment about how my hair is too heavy and she doesn’t like it when her hair is heavy and began thinning out my hair leaving 3 inches attached to my head and cutting off 12+ inches to thin my hair! My hair is about 5″ shorted with short layers. Years of hair growth that only gets more challenging to grow out healthy with age is GONE! I didn’t know what she was doing until I saw all of my thick long hair on the floor. I am repeatedly traumatized when I put my hair in a ponytail and take a shower because now I have that average thin hair. It makes me so sad! Minus 2 stars!!!
When I eventually get over the trauma and trust issues in «hair stylists», and give my hair a while to grow, I would rather make the drive to south San Jose than go back to this place.

It’s funny to hear that Chinese people get different treatment at this place:) I was just a walk in customer and was extremely satisfied with the quality of service! Paul is very experienced and a nice person. He spends quality of time working with your hair and I can finally say I found the hair designer I would like to come back! I ended up bringing back my entire family. To my surprise the price for a child’s haircut was less than I paid at Great Clips!!! Needless to say that the quality was superior. My boy felt very stylish and confident:) and my daughter got her nice layers. Haircuts are easy to style at home and look great!
I would definitely recommend this place (and don’t be scared away if you are not Chinese:)))))

Second try at finding a hair stylist in the Bay Area and I was very happy with Paul’s cut! I have a short, layered bob, which had grown out and honestly wasn’t in the greatest shape after my first Bay Area haircut.
Paul was very professional, friendly, quick, and very thorough with my layers. He spent a lot of time sculpting my thin lifeless hair into a nice perky bob. I was pretty impressed, since my hair really is very limp and shapeless.
It’s been about a month and the haircut has been growing out really well. I’ve gotten so many compliments and people keep commenting on how they can really see a difference in my hair cut and all the layers.
Good price, convenient location (next to the 99 ranch), and plenty of parking. Can’t ask for anything more.

Paul is an amazing hair dresser. I am a regular customer here and really like how they treat their customers. Paul is a very skilled and dedicated person — always open for feedback and changes. The place is very clean and people very friendly. I have tried other places in foster city, this one ranks at the top.

Just got a great haircut from Kaylee. She knows how to cut women’s Asian hair and gives you pointers in styling and hair care. I love that she is not super chatty. I’ve been looking forever for a local stylist and finally found one in Foster City.

Second time around was a pretty bad cut. Extremely disappointing, hair was uneven and crooked. I will not be giving them another try

Probably the best haircut I had in a long time. Paul was my designer, he is very skillful, gave me really good recommendation. Very reasonable price too. I would definitely come back.

I called on a Sunday afternoon to get my bangs trimmed — the gentleman who answered the phone said I could come in any time. 15 minutes later I arrived to a very clean salon, three people working and two little girls running around, and I was seated immediately. I was worried that the girls would run in to my hair stylist (their dad?) but they settled down when the scissors came out. I had horrendously self-​cut side bangs which I had him convert to straight-​down bangs. After 30ish minutes he was done and they looked fabulous. It costed $ 15 (+$ 3 tip) and I will definitely come back to get them maintained. I’ve received so many compliments already in the two days I had them (even from my parents)!

I came as walk in late afternoon, was offered to wait a bit though was waiting much less. Kaylee was my hair dresser and did a real great job
I have curly and very dry hair that long needed to be cut. She gave me tips on styling and care. The outcome is so nice I get many complements
I will sure be back

Don’t bother coming here unless you are Chinese. They give preferential treatment to you if you are Chinese. I was waiting in line for a hair cut for a while and when then another customer came in who was Chinese and he was seen before me.
It is incredibly unprofessional.
Will not return.

Just took my son for a haircut. Excellent job. Folks are very attending too. Will come back again.
