I love this sushi bar. The waiters are friendly, the food is delicious. The place is silent and authentic.

I loved the all-you-can-eat sushi at lunch, mainly because I typically like trying several different rolls. I went to lunch solo and I didn’t know about the AYCE special so I was really excited when the server told me the rolls were smaller than usual and come with 4 pieces per order. So instead of having to spend ~$ 14 on one big roll I was able to try 4 different types of rolls AND got miso soup and salad for $ 12.95. The food and service were both good so I’ll definitely go back.

Local, convenient, good parking, simple ambience. Tempura done right: oishi. Nigiri Maguro was fresh. Foster City roll tasty. Unagi Lover Roll not so much. Tuna Tartare well conceived. Overall rating above average(3+) but would recommend(to myself next time) stay simple and enjoy basics pretty well done.

Tried the all you can eat for lunch. It was a good deal and the quality wasn’t bad. Some of the rolls were on the smaller side(6 pcs). The service was slow and it took about 30 minutes for our first item to come. Considering the service and wait time, I’m a little hesitant to come back for lunch.

Excellent bargain priced all you can eat lunch spot where the Thai vegetarian arm of Sweet Basil used to be. Food:4, Service: 3, Atmosphere: 3 Cost to worth it rating: 5($ 12.99 for all you can eat lunch) Return worthiness: yes Highlights: — All you can eat lunch: includes extensive 2-sided rolls menu as well as appetizers(edamame, miso soup, veggie tempura) and a few entrees(chicken teriyaki, katsu). All are smaller portions for consumption of variety(rolls 4 pieces) and SO worth it. Hand rolls are included as well. — Katsu: solid freshly quality crispy exterior and tender meat. 4 stars — Tempura roll: nicely fried 4 stars — Unagi roll: standard yumminess and fresh 4 stars — Chicken teriyaki: well cooked and decent sauce: 3.5 stars — Veggie sushi options: plain asparagus, avocado, cucumber 3.5 stars — Free ice cream with Unilocal check in(but we were too full) Lowlights: — Can’t take any home: makes sense to avoid over-orderers but suck that it’ll just go to waste vs eaten as leftovers — Pretty small place so I could see it getting filled up at peak hours Usually for an amazing deal you don’t get good quality food. I’ll be back.

Check out their lunch AYCE($ 12.95 now)! They got a decent variety of appetizers, regular rolls & hands rolls, katsu with small portion of rice. I started off with miso soup and veggie tempura. Definitely check out their baked salmon roll and crazy dragon roll. Hands down on their Spider roll if you wanna try out soft shell crab. *Recommend check their website for the list offered* 4 orders per person at a time*

Food very fresh. First time coming here tonight after first finding this place via Unilocal. Our house got sent a lot of flyers and for months we have been planning to go tonight. Tonight was hot and we didn’t feel like cooking. I felt like sushi so there were four of us that came tonight. The waiters were very welcoming. Initially we wanted ramen but they are no longer selling ramen.(I guess Kenta Ramen is much more popular) We ordered chicken karaage, fried tofu and unagi rolls as appitizers, then we ordered Crazy Spider, Crazy Dragon rolls, and chicken and sashimi, udon and chicken karaage and beef don for entrees. Food tasted very fresh. It’s much better coming here than certain sushi places around San Mateo county. Highly recommended! Free ice cream if you leave a review and check in!

I’m not a fan of sushi, but for some weird reason, I was feeling like a pregnant lady with uncontrollable cravings. I dragged my boyfriend to eat here for the first time. I ordered the crazy dragon roll and he ordered a rainbow blossom roll. Both were really good and filling. They definitely don’t skimp out on the portions and put a lot of care into creating their rolls. Really enjoyed the fast and efficient service as well as the quaint, soft piano music. Definitely will be coming back here again! So good.

I had the crazy dragon roll and a variety of other nigiri. All of them were fresh and delicious. The roll menu is a little intimidating, but you can narrow it down by fried/non fried and spicy/non-spicy. The service here was also very good. I’ll definitely be back during the work week for their weekly specials.

We ordered 5 rolls for take out on Mother’s Day & they all had too much rice that it made the rolls bland & flavorless. Pink Godzilla roll — liked the best but it is very creamy. Green dragon roll — too much rice Salmon lover roll #1 — too much rice — not enough salmon flavor Albacore delight roll — too much rice, not much flavor. Albacore taste best when lightly seared with the light sauce. Unagi lover roll — too much rice, can’t remember if unagi was in it. This place is run by young Cantonese guys & so you don’t feel like you’re really getting the real Japanese flavor or experience. It’ll do for being in Foster city but there are other Japanese restaurants that are available but the same caliber. However, if you consider that the rolls had too much rice, the rolls are expensive at an average of $ 12 – 13 per roll for rice & not a lot of flavor. I’ll give it another try as I live in FC but I’ll order nigiri & sashimi instead.

My brother took us here and we weren’t impressed. He was waiting all this time to try the sushi boat with someone because it was $ 35 each with a two minimum order. It was mediocre with stuff you’d find in a $ 12.99 Buffett. The tea was black and lukewarm. I would have preferred hot and green. Maddys curry was meh and she didn’t finish it all. Darcie’s ramen she didn’t like. And we had a minor debate over spicy with the waiter. Des spicy tuna salad was sad because there were like five well hidden pieces of spicy tuna somewhere in her salad. We checked in and asked for the free ice cream. He said, and it was clearly marked on the table, that we need to write a review. Maybe not a good idea. So we didn’t take the ice cream and wrote a review anyway.

Akizu recently changed their format at lunchtime to be an all-you-can-eat meal. I decided to check it out, but had a healthy skepticism because ayce sushi places tend not to be the best. I am happy to say that I was pleasantly surprised. When you are seated, they present your table with an order card. It has a couple of dozen items on it, including many standard sushi rolls(or hand rolls), some fancier rolls, some cooked items, and some salads. You can choose a few of them at a time, and then once you receive your food you can order again if you like. The food is really good quality for an ayce format. The rolls have have a nice ratio of fish to rice. The spicy tuna and the salmon skin hand rolls were both quite good. The tempura appetizer is wonderful. I haven’t yet tried any of the other cooked dishes so I can’t comment. Service is pretty good, if not actually fast. Overall, this is a solid choice for lunch. I’ll be back again soon.

Came for a light meal as I have been having really oily food lately. Akizu didn’t disappoint. I had the Alaska Roll, it was delicious, the crab was fresh, the spicy mayo on top of it was just right. Not too spicy but spicy enough to add a little zing to the overall taste. Probably the best roll I’ve had in a while. Service was great. Their attention to detail is astonishing. Tea was refilled often, most of the time, even before I finished the entire cup. The tea was kept warm all the time because of this cycle. They were also attentive enough to notice that the evening sun was shining towards me and they offered to move me to the adjacent table to avoid the sun. I was pleasantly surprised. The waiting time was below expectations though. I waited for about 30 minutes for a roll, while the people around me with teriyaki chicken got their orders before me. But I was alright with that as I was not in a rush and needed a slow meal to unwind. People who are in a rush might feel frustrated. Had the free ice cream from the Unilocal check-in. I picked green tea instead of vanilla. Green tea ice cream was great, it was not too sweet, had a slight tinge of bitterness that approximated the taste of green tea very well. Overall an awesome experience. I have been living in foster city for quite a while and it’s a pity I didn’t discover this place earlier. Great addition to our neighborhood!

A mixed bag. The positive is that the service is very friendly and helpful. The truly negative was the ramen which tasted like bleach. The other dishes we had(rolls, gyoza) were simply meh. Location-wise, you don’t have the hassle of downtown San Mateo parking but it’s not food I’d come back for.

The sushi is so beautiful. Anything with a super or crazy in the name is wonderfully tasty. They had a special for the blossom roll and the super spider roll today. Hopefully they keep it around for future guests because those are the best two out of the five we ordered. Super Godzilla was good, but a bit heavy for a roll that came last. They’re a little slow on making the sushi, but I may have just been really hungry. Leave a review now and you get a free ice cream at the restaurant. Happy eating!

Definitely a one and done for me here. Ordered takeout the other night. Told it would be 35 min. Arrived at restaurant about 30 min later and was told order was almost ready. Told at least three more times it was almost ready. Despite the fact that there was no one in the restaurant, it took 30 minutes after I arrived for my order to be complete. Not sure why and didn’t make a stink about it, but watched as they closed the restaurant as soon as I left(which makes the delay even more puzzling). Quality of sushi was underwhelming and none of the three of us in our group finished out food. Final straw was finding out today that they were shut down for health code violations two weeks ago. Yuck.

2÷12÷2016 Went to eat at sweet basil Thai but my cousin was not into it. She wanted sushi so after my girlfriend and i ate we took her next door. That was a mistake. Walked in around 7:40pm. My cousin ordered spicy tuna rolls and I ordered rainbow rolls. It took over an hour to get our food. The waitress came up to us and said that it was busy, when it wasn’t really that busy. We said, okay that’s fine. 20 minutes goes by, then she brought us some miso soup to try to make up for the wait. 25 minutes goes by and the waitress comes back to our table and tells us that one of the sushi chefs got into a car accident and they were only with one chef to make all the sushi. Thing was, when she told us that, there were only two tables and those tables had their food. There was a guy waiting for a pick up order, I thought, they must be making his food first. Then a couple walked in, they set them down, they ordered their food, and they got their food before we got our spicy tuna rolls and rainbow rolls. They ordered a lot of food including something that was in foil that they had to light on fire. I know this because the waiters brought that item to our table. Then he realized he had made a mistake. He took it and brought it to them. This ordeal took 30 minutes. Finally my cousin spicy tuna rolls came. But not the rainbow rolls. It took another 10 minutes till that came. By that time my cousin was on her last two spicy tuna rolls, the rainbow rolls came. It took us too long to get our two items, we did not get out of there till around 9:15pm. All we ordered was spicy tuna rolls and Rainbow rolls. We had to wait for those two items for over an hour. First impressions of this place are not very good, pretty sure we will not be going back.

Dad wanted us to take him out to Japanese food but wanted to avoid the mess of parking in downtown San Mateo on a Saturday night. My fingers Unilocaled away. I came across Akisu and saw the 4 stars. Showed my dad and he said okay. It’s in the old Vegetarian version of Sweet Basil Thai, so it’s a little on the smaller side. Wasn’t too busy but I did notice a handful of takeout orders. The menu was a little higher priced than some of the places that I go to in the city. I wasn’t very hungry so I got the oyako don. All the guys got varied combo dinners(i.e. tonkatsu with tempura, sashimi with chicken teriyaki), we also ordered two California Deluxe rolls. All the bentos came with salad and soup. We were surprised that the rolls came after we got our entrees, our waiter kept saying they were coming shortly. And I’m not sure what the deluxe part was as they looked like a typical California roll. My oyako don was plentiful with a huge bowl of rice and the mix of scrambled eggs, carrots, onions and chicken. I always love how flavorful restaurants make this with the little bit of sauce mixed in. I gave my dad some(his first time trying a donburi) and he liked it; and he can be very particular in general. The deluxe CA roll tasted fresh and I noticed on my husband’s chicken katsu and tempura combo, they used chicken breast instead of typical thighs, so I thought that was a nice touch. My dad also commented on the amount of food they got for the price. $ 78 pre-tip for 2 California Deluxe rolls, 3 combo dinners, &1 donburi seem like a fair price. Some of the rolls are on the pricier side though just to note. I don’t think service was necessarily slow, it was just very odd and disorderly that the simple CA roll came out 10 minutes after we got our entrees. There were also only 2 waitstaff working and they seem to get a decent amount of to go orders. In general, it’s hard finding a really good Japanese place, but I say Akizu is a solid spot.

The food is tasty, but the service was slow. Many tables were full, but it seemed like there was only one waitress. I ordered an unagi roll and a spicy scallop roll. It took forever for my unagi roll to come out(after other people at my table had received their food for at least fifteen minutes). After serving the unagi roll they then told me they didn’t have any scallop. I’m not sure why they couldn’t have told me earlier so I could’ve made an order change – as it was I had no desire to wait another twenty minutes for another roll that they might not be able to make. My friends would like to note that their music is good. Edit: beware-the mints are cinnamon.

Four stars. The sushi was good, but not my favorite. The $ 8 Salmon Lover roll was somewhat small. I remember the waitress highly recommending it, but it had WAAAAY too much cream cheese. I came here because of a groupon. I’m glad I bought it because I will be coming back for more of Akisu’s delicious yum-yums. Pros: — a wide range of sushi’s…plump and delicious. Seafood is very fresh. — their non-sushi dishes are equally good — small and clean interior — staff is pleasant Con: — the restaurant plays music too loudly. The music makes me want to go dance around these delicious sushi pieces. If the music can be turned down by 2 notches, I can then comfortably use my inside voice.

Finally got to come back to this restaurant for lunch, and I ordered the flaming roll and agedashi tofu. The tofu was a little unconventional as it is not the same style as other agedashi tofu; the batter was thicker and was topped with sauce(with spinach and mushroom), not the typical dipping sauce. I am not sure I like this variation as much. As for the flaming roll… wow! what a presentation! and so yummy! It was a warm sushi roll, with cooked salmon on top, and the inside was like a warm california roll filling with a nice creamy sauce. The flavor was powerful and wonderful! My favourite!

With the limited sushi options in Foster City, this is a pretty good deal for a go-to lunch spot. Got a pretty standard bento box lunch with salmon sashimi and chicken teriyaki. Surprisingly, at the $ 11 price point, they actually gave some decent pieces of sashimi. Overall, nothing amazing, but worth going to again for some cheap, casual, sushi lunch.

It was good, but I wasn’t impressed. Me and the sister got three items to share and we were satisfied, but not completely full. We started with the tuna tartar, which was pretty good. The tuna was fresh which I always appreciate and the black crunchy stuff on top adds a nice crunch and texture. We also got the flaming roll and the spicy crunch roll. Both were good, but like I said, it wasn’t very impressive. Overall, it was decent. The rolls are small and it’s kind of pricey.

This is a nice hole-in-the-wall sushi place located near a residential area, so they weren’t crowded on a Saturday evening. This place is located far north-east of Foster City, so it’s not a place that you will accidentally run into, but it’s worth the trip to dine here. Their food was above average and their prices were fair. The service was excellent, as our waitress was very kind & helpful. You also will never need to worry about your tea going empty, as they seem to refill your cup every chance that they can get. The restaurant was small with plenty of staff and they weren’t crowded either, so the noise level wasn’t loud and very pleasant to hold a conversation with your party. They even offer a free scoop of green tea Gelato ice cream when you check-in and write a review on Unilocal for their restaurant. I would come back here again when I want to have another nice quiet dinner with very good service.
