Ordered to pick up on a Saturday. It got done within 15 minutes and food was pretty good. Thick pieces of fish, sticky rice and service was nice, at least as far as I could tell. They’re located pretty much in the crown plaza hotel, if you’re looking for them.

I don’t expect a lot when I’m going to a hotel restaurant other than convenience. Most are known to be overpriced with subpar service and food. I had a long day of traveling and working and while laying on my hotel bed, I decided, «I don’t feel like driving anywhere… I’m just going to eat here at the hotel.» I’ve already had the Bistro place a couple times, so I figured I would try something else. Sushi sounded good so I begrudgingly put my shoes back on and headed downstairs to Toyko Village. I sat at the sushi bar and was immediately greeted by both sushi chefs and a server. I ordered two rolls — the Rainbow roll and the Alaska roll — along with a large Sapporo. Before I could blink, my rolls were being handed over the counter to me and my drink was filled. Perfect! Let me tell you, one bite and I was in heaven. The fish was SO fresh and tasty. The texture was buttery and melted in my mouth. I texted my fiancé in amazement to tell him how INCREDIBLE this sushi is! Such a welcome surprise! I can almost never finish two whole rolls on my own, but I completely DEVOURED both and was kind of disappointed there wasn’t more. The prices seemed on par with other typical(non-conveyer belt) sushi places. I may just have Tokyo Village again tonight for dinner!

Truly an excellent place to eat and would very much classify it as a hole in the wall. If you like smaller places with great food this place is it. I came here for a family function and was pleased with the food and the variety of menu items. Thought our service was a bit slow but other than that nothing but good things to say about this place. Would highly recommend.

We were looking for a near by sushi place for a last minute gathering of out of town guests in mid peninsula area. We were presently surprised that there is a Japanese Restaurent right in the hotel they are staying. Our meal there was more than satisfying. We asked the chef to prepare with their fresh ingredients of the day. Hence we had scallops, tuna, shrimp and etc. Presentation was a surprise too. We definitely go back frequently.

Hidden Sushi place inside the Crowne Plaza hotel. Love this place, friendly staff, great menus, fresh fish, it’s a restaurant you should NOT miss if you are in/around Foster City!

Came to this place for lunch as its very near my office. Good for people who r working in foster city. I like the ambience, the food and the service. Ordered the beef teriyaki rice and sashimi. The beef was tender and sauce was v tasty. The sashimi was very fresh and thick. Would definitely be back for the sashimi!

«Little hidden gem» says another Unilocaler. I concur! My bf and I decided to make it convenient to have dinner as guests at the hotel. We really didn’t have high expectations other than average and expensive. To our surprise, we were thoroughly impressed. We ordered a sashimi combo, the clam miso, chawamushi, two nigiri saba, two uni with quail egg and a large refreshing bottle of sake. The fish was fresh and tasty with buttery textures melting in my mouth. The warm clam miso was hearty and contained a generous amount of clams. The chawamushi wasn’t the best I’ve tasted but was savory enough to order again. If I didn’t have to fit into my Halloween costume that night, we probably would have kept going. The service was excellent, friendly and attentive. We appreciated the extra touch of pouring our sake in a fancy iced carafe also. We’ll undoubtedly return to Tokyo Village. We enjoyed the atmosphere and agreeable looking interiors– perfect for a date.

Friendly staff and excellent service. We ordered quite a few dishes and almost of all the specials. Loved everything. Sashimi was über fresh and any sauce that came w/a dish was on point. Absolutely must get the whole Uni. Beautifully presented and ultra unctuous. Pieces are way large. Incredibly satisfying. Prices aren’t cheap but worth it.

Little hidden gem. You can barely find this wonderful restuarant, but we did and are total fans! They have great sushi, teriyiki chicken and salmon, and apppetizers… well everything we’ve ever tried is excellent. Fast service and friendly people. When you see the hotel, turn in. There are red lanterns hanging in front. There is some sports bar sign but that’s not it. There is pleanty of parking. Highly recommend

Sakura roll was so good — tuna and yellowtail wrapped in super thin cucumber with a spicy(no mayo yay!) sauce. Beef Sukiyaki was to die for — tender thinly sliced beef, perfectly delicious broth, yam noodles, cabbage, green onion and silky tofu served in a hot pot so it keeps it nice and steamy. My husband also enjoyed the tonkatsu entrée. My only complaint would be so-so salad dressing as it was not very flavorful. The staff was really nice and even brought out the toragashi chili pepper for me when I asked for it(I like spicy). If you find yourself staying at the Crowne Plaza and want some sushi and other Japanese dishes then just go to the first floor. I will definitely come here again.

I was a guest in the hotel and my husband ended up going to a business dinner and leaving me to fend for myself. My plan was to go down and do a bowl of miso and shrimp tempura. When I noticed how fresh the sushi looked at the other tables, I added a spicy tuna roll and two glasses of wine. Service is super attentive and quick. The owner/manager? stops by every table and checks on your meal. There was even a table across from me who had eaten there the night before and liked it so much they came back again. The wine and beer list is impressive for a restaurant of this size and if they don’t have what you request, they are eager to find replacements. From the outside, the restaurant would be easy to write off, but the inside feels cleaner and more modern than the exterior. They have a small courtyard/rock garden area outside the glass. If they added a couple landscape lights and some plantings, it could really take the décor to a higher level. Many of the tables are up against the glass and this would make a nice view, especially for all the lone business diners. My husbands company is headquartered in this part of town, so I’m sure I will be back this way again.

This is the Japanese restaurant that coworkers and I used to always go to for lunch. Until one day I ordered salmon sashimi and there were approx 5FISHBONES inside and a piece of an eye lash! The meal was $ 20 but they gave me a coupon to use for next time which was valued at $ 10, expires in the same month, for dinner only even though they messed up on lunch, and there were a lot of terms in the back including things like can’t be used for combo or special, and only can cover up for 30% of the bill before tax, so Basically it’s a gimmick for me to come and spend more for dinner. etc. it was just a promotional coupon and not a compensation. I have choked on a fish bone when I was little so this is very dangerous for customers. Yet they didn’t compensate me. My coworkers and I will try shikis in fostwr city going forward. It is so strange how these Japanese places in fostwr city do not have good services. My coworker and had a horrible experience at inshou also. Even worse than here. these are all Chinese owned Japanese restaurants and I shouldn’t expect much in service. The Japanese restaurants in San Mateo are much better.

Grabbed a quick dinner at the sushi bar here last night… I had the Hamachi Sashimi, Tuna Poki and Spring Roll which was delicious with crab, sweet potato and avo. I had to remind them to bring me my Sauvignon Blanc but that’s ok, it was busy and there were only 2 waiters. Overall, good choice if it’s convenient!

This place is located next to a hotel, which might be the reason why it’s pretty expensive. For a two item dinner special it’s around $ 20…and for the amount of food that you get it’s not a very good deal. Especially when compared to other Japanese restaurants, for the same price you can get much more food and for similar quality too. The shrimp tempura and chicken katsu were both pretty good. I also tried the dragon roll and it was pretty fresh. It’s overall an okay place but because of the price for what you get, I’d say it’s not worth it. It’s probably more for the convenience for hotel patrons.

The food quality here is good although the price won’t be cheap(granted they’re probably paying a premium leasing a space inside a popular hotel). The place was about 70% full and with two sushi chef, the wait was bearable.

The quality of the fish is ok and price is high compared to high end places. The wait is long, even the place was pretty empty. The Victoria secret roll is pretty good. The food portion is so small, not a good place to share food. Service is slow.

The quality of the fish is quite fresh, but the price is quite high compared to high end ones in SF. So I wouldn’t come here again. Victoria secret roll — it’s pretty good with scallop on top. Sakura roll — it’s got veggie wrapped outside the roll, there is no rice in the roll, only salmon and tuna. Grilled Ayu fish — it’s super small, nothing much to eat, already $ 8. Uni nigiri — it’s got a lot of uni sea urchin on it, huge portion, but also very expensive, $ 10 for 2 pieces.

Prices have gone up and service has been sketchy too. The wait staff and manager are too lurky for my taste… you don’t need to hang out by my table and watch me eat and try to take away our plates when we aren’t done yet. I used to frequent this place for lunch when it was Tokai but now it’s just overpriced and the food is not as good. The nigiri had very thin slices of fish and the quality of the fish didn’t look so great either. My friend had a bento box and she said it was good but the portions were small. Get rid of the fancy plating and bring me back the old menu and prices. I rather not spend $ 20 for lunch(that was just for my meal btw), but if I did I would like the food quality to match the price. The food was by no means horrible, it was just much much better before.

(Lunch time) Moving in the wrong directions… Prices are going up; quality going down. They USED to have a great lunch bento box for a good solid meal that automatically came w/some CA rolls(lose that thought now!). NOW the tempura option reads«vegetable tempura» so no more shrimp tempura included. In place of the CA rolls, I got 4 pieces of steamed cauliflower and broccoli heads. I was the first one in the restaurant for lunch, and had ordered some chicken teriyaki that WASDRY! Overcooked/twice-cooked dry… not chicken breast-dry. Really?! First person of the day?! C’mon man… Yes, I know you’re saying«whoa… bento box… REAL japanese!» I normally reserve the nigiri, sashimi, uni, amaebi for dinner. Plus, when I first opened the menu looking for nigiri… $ 5.95 for 2pc maguro?! Again, prices going up… not seeing the quality follow. I LOVE Japanese food, especially some fresh sashimi, amaebi, or spicy curry udon… but I’m NOT loving Tokyo Village(did love Tokai before).

So this place opens up walking distance from my house. After giving them a few weeks to sort out the kinks, we gave them a try. Built into the Crown Plaza Hotel, there were a lot of people there by themselves on the Monday night we visited. San Mateo/Foster City is full of similar sushi places and it is hard to stand out here as you have to be good to survive around here. The sushi was good… I ordered the Sakura roll because it looked great in Sylvia S’. photo, but when mine arrived, it wasn’t as pretty… *See Photo*. We ordered several things that night… all were delicious… Sushi isn’t cheap and this place is no different… The service was polite, but not that great. My ice tea sat empty most of the night and they only filled it when I asked. They seemed to have a «team» approach to service as we saw several different people but I couldn’t tell you who our waiter/waitress was. I’ll give them a few more weeks and try them again. If staying at the hotel, this is by far your best option without leaving the hotel.

Recently change of ownership at this location, nice and clean environment, friendly staffs. Provide wide range of selections from upscale items like bluefin tuna, live uni, scallop etc. to casual items such as sushi rolls, ramen, and curry over rice. One of the best Japanese restaurants in the area. It’s located inside the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Foster City, so parking will never be a problem.
