This place is so much better than The Usual. Great crafty cocktails but better more chill atmosphere. The French 75 was amazing and I loved the large block ice used in Old Fashions. Clean restroom and cute patio area. Happy hour available and I’m pretty sure you can get Thai next door at Spice and bring it over. All a win!

Can’t believe I didn’t write a review on this place. Ok let’s begin. Checked this place out when it first opened so of course I knew it wouldn’t be perfect. To my surprise everything went well. It’s very tiny so if you blink you will miss this place. So pay close attention while driving down Magnolia. The mixologist was awesome. He made my friend and I the perfect drink. We decided to sit outside since it was too cramped up inside. Nice cute patio to sip and talk. It would’ve been nice to have some small appetizers available. No worries you’re right in the middle of two awesome restaurants. I plan on going back this week to see if any changes occurred since the last time I visited.

The Proper is a tiny bar in Magnolia. They have a ton of drinks and the staff is super nice, which is very important to me because that is one of the reasons why I think twice before going to The Usual. They have secret parking in the back and a very nice patio. Their prices are about the same as everywhere else, $ 9-$ 12 per drink. They have fun creative cocktails and there are tasty. The crowd when I went was 45+ and the music was appropriate for that crowd. I am not sure if I will be back, because was not my crowd, but I definitely recommend it to people 45 and up.

I still like this place, but my last visit was a little disappointing. I came here around 1600 on a Saturday for a personal happy hour with a companion. I ordered a Mai tai and was told by the bartender that the bar didn’t have all the ingredients to make that drink… on a Saturday. Whatever, fine. I decided to go with chopin with club soda… and was told they don’t carry Chopin. Whatever again. I went with grey goose and club soda, and so did my companion. Which was made really quick. For a nice bar, this place sure doesn’t carry a lot of basic things, like mixers and a good variety of vodka. I would come back again because I do like the atmosphere, but maybe after awhile.

If you’re going to serve craft cocktails that take a while to make, there’s nothing wrong with that, but this place should consider having more than one bartender working on a Friday night. We waited forever for our drinks. By the time I got my crime diva, I thought it was pretty good, but not worth the wait. We would have liked to try other cocktails, but we didn’t feel like waiting so long again and ended up going somewhere else. This is a place that’s probably better to be tried at a non-peak time. The atmosphere to me just seemed like a typical dive bar. Like so typical it’s cliché. Tiny space, exposed beams and«character» of the building, hipster bartenders, weird thing playing on TVs(in this case an old black-and-white movie). The patio looked nice, but it was too cold out for us to enjoy it. Overall, I wasn’t very impressed.

Really enjoyed my experience with Proper. Interesting selection of cocktails, friendly staff, and mellow aesthetics. Loved the few cocktails I had with friends that evening. Try the Songbird; single malt scotch ginger and lime on the rocks. It just feels good to see positive change being made on Magnolia. Note: My 5-star rating is based not on a scale of «the best» bars I have ever experienced, but rather in comparison to other bars in Fort Worth.

Proper is a tiny bar almost on a corner on Magnolia. It’s squeezed in next to Fixture. It’s really small, so it’s hard to notice, but you’ll find it. There’s a nice little back patio that I haven’t been able to squish over to yet and it’s a nice, cozy space. The first time I came here, I was looking for a drink after eating at Fixture(a nice experience, by the way). Four of us walked in and were immediately out of room before we even got in the door. I’m not one to bash a place just on its size. I frequent one or two places that are beyond small, but Proper wasn’t making it work. The bar line was long. The service was slow. I couldn’t see any menus or tap handles from where I was standing. It was amazingly loud, due to the large crowd and cranked music in such a small area. After about ten minutes of making seemingly no progress in line, we left. A few months later, we find ourselves on Magnolia again and give it another shot. It’s not nearly as crowded this time. There’s only a handful of people there and several are at the bar on laptops getting some work done. Sadly, despite having a far smaller crowd to battle, the bar was still amazingly slow, drinks were a kinda weak, and everything seemed a little overpriced. The price may be a symptom of the location, but still. Eventually, the quiet and sparse scene became the noisy mob from my first visit. Paying out took forever and trying to get to the bar to sign the check was pretty cramped. The problem is a ton of little things that pile up. There were disinterested bartenders, but I can get over that. The menu was riddled with misspelled words, but I knew what they meant aside from the fancy liqueur that I couldn’t figure out. The space is tiny, but many good places are. The drinks are slow, but I can deal with that and sometimes it’s due to a well-made drink. However, those misspelled drink menus really stand out after you’ve already waited forever for a drink from a bartender that took a while to acknowledge you and paid more than you wanted to before you tried to squeeze yourself back to your spot. If they could work down to one or two of these problems, then it’d probably be able to make up for them with other qualities.

Proper serves up craft cocktails *proper*! Cross the threshold and you feel as though you’ve stepped back in time. The space is dark, slightly divey(but not off-putting at all) and intimate. Absolutely best enjoyed when people are in small groups. I say this because a large birthday group came in and really destroyed the cool vibe that was going on because they got the bartender to turn on some loud tunage and then engaged in a spontaneous grind fest. Thoroughly despicable, but I’m not blaming Proper for this unfortunate display. This makes me think that they’re missing out on one of the things I often appreciate most in a Speakeasy(other than expertly crafted cocktails): RULES! Ie: no congregating in large groups, no standing, no soliciting unaccompanied women, etc. I mean, the name implies that good manners might be appreciated here, right? I know, I know. I’m a Scrooge, but rules can be kinda awesome. Sorry to write so much about the group that ruined the vibe. You’ll see that I didn’t detract stars for this because I don’t think that’s fair. We were immediately tended to by an *extremely* nice bartender who invited us to sit at a table where he’d take our order. That’s pretty rare, in my experience. Sometimes if you sit at a table without going to a bar in joints like this, they’ll ignore you because OBVIOUSLY you’ll get the hint that you order at the bar because bartenders are not waiters. I ordered a glass of Prosecco because I’m boring these days and my colleague ordered some type of intriguingly named concoction. I was shocked at how inexpensive everything was. Our bartender was pretty slammed once the revelers arrived, but he paid regular attention to us and came over to make sure we were OK. I just really love this place and can’t wait to return.

Went to this place last night to celebrate my new job with friends. I was looking for a small, laid back place with good drinks. This place hit the nail on the head. I had three different drinks: Poncho & Lefty, an Old Fashioned, and a drink with one of their infused vodkas. All three were great! I loved that the place was small and not super crowded. Plus the two guys behind the bar were nice and very helpful. I will definitely be coming back here!

Do yourself a Proper favor and do not attend this place. The place was very small and dirty looking, which was the first sign that I have made a terrible decision. thereafter, I sat at the bar and waited for over 25 minutes to get someone to ask me what I wanted… TWENTYFIVEMINUTES. I saw this gentleman at the bar – who obviously saw me – but decided to chat the world up with the coworkers instead of providing me with appropriate customer service. I don’t want to jump to conclusions now, but after reading another review it only solidifies my intuition. I do believe race played a huge factor since I was the only minority at the establishment. Definitely not going here anymore that’s for sure

The girl and I came by after having a bite to eat next door. Honestly I’ve driven by dozens of times and never realized this place even existed due to their square footage. Proper is easy to miss as it is a shotgun style bar wedged between two restaurants. They’ve got a real little patio out back with seating for about 10 – 12 on some unique handmade patio furniture. New ideas for my own place have arisen from my visit. Now I’m one for the craft cocktails and will always give a spot a chance if they make them. In fact I unfortunately might have a problem for them because I have to have cool drinks. I love the classic cocktails of my grandparents and parents generation. Where people drank real drinks and not pounding shots or vodka redbulls while some stupid club music pounds the little life I have left out of my eardrums. Proper didn’t let down with any of that. They also infuse their own liquor, they muddle fresh ingredients, the bartenders are knowledgeable in helping you choose, and they bring their A game to give you a truly well made, neigh hand crafted, drink. I’ve become a bit of an addict for Old Fashioned’s, thanks Don Draper(Jon Hamm), and Mason(the bartender) hooked me up with a great version. They infused a bourbon with real cherry wood, and topped it with a homemade maraschino cherry. I’ll be back for sure since I loved it and I know the girl did too!

Proper is in a fantastic location on west Magnolia, right in between Fixture and Spice. It’s pretty easy to miss because it’s so so tiny, but I definitely think it’s worth a visit. Proper is 100% focused on fine craft cocktails, so come here after you eat because there’s really no food on the menu besides nuts! You’ll go hungry. But you can fix that by drinking more, of course. Proper can make all the classics and then they’ve got a whole slew of fancy house-made cocktails on the list. We recently visited and the bartender told us all about the specials, which included something I can’t remember(I’m sorry but he talked so quickly) made with«fall spices» like cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon. You can expect seasonal creations and decent prices. Most drinks are between $ 8-$ 10. On my latest visit I had a French 75 — a little too sweet and a little too weak for my taste, but the presentation was lovely. Adam enjoyed his spin on a Manhattan, which was served with one of those single giant ice cubes(always fun). The ambiance is really cozy and casual. Again this is a small establishment and there are maybe 6 little tables inside plus the actual bar, which is also little. There’s a patio outside which I’ve yet to experience. I was with a rowdy group of just-made friends on my most recent visit and our loudness could not be contained within the close quarters of Proper. I apologize, fellow patrons.

Well hey there fancy cocktail! It’s been a while! And I have missed you! This place is what I have been looking for in Fort Worth! REALHANDMADECOCKTAILS! Mason, our bartender was freaking awesome! A true drink specialist! My boy ordered the old fashion and he loved it! I ordered the Champagne cocktail and it was everything I love in an adult drink! Simply perfect! The patio out back had some neat handmade furniture that we relaxed and enjoyed our drinks on. The whole place is top notch!

This is a small quaint place for drinks. We sat at the bar and it took awhile for servers to attend to us, which was OK at first because I noticed people closing out/ordering before us. An older woman was our server and after discussing the drink menu with her, we made a decision and she took our order. She was caught up in closing out other peoples’ tabs, so we patiently waited again… Another bartender saw we were waiting so he took my boyfriend’s drink order and I would have to wait longer because the drink I ordered was something only this older woman could make because it was her«concoction»(Tequila infused tea with lavender and other spices/herbs). 30 min in, i still didn’t have my drink. She saw still waiting and I know she did because she looked up a few times, but didn’t bother to say hold on or that she’ll get to us shortly. I’m not one to jump to the conclusions that I’m not being served because of race, but I couldn’t help but feel my intuition telling me otherwise. My thoughts ran along the lines of.“I am the only minority in this bar. and this woman doesn’t have a care in the world that I’ve been waiting, and is fully aware of what I’m waiting for.” The woman never came to check on us for the remainder of our visit. The other bartender(a gentleman) that served my boyfriend noticed I still didn’t have my drink, attended to me, and I informed him I changed my mind and I wanted a beer. He was apologetic and served my beer of choice right away, as well as did not charge us for it due to the wait. Do yourself a favor Proper, hire more competent bartenders such as the guy described above. You should have no tolerance for wait staff that can’t handle mult-tasking or that lacks customer service skills. I don’t plan on visiting this weird establishment again.

Stopped by for drinks after dinner at The Fixture just out of curiosity. Bartender was friendly and happy to answer all of our questions about the menu. Inside looks really nice, as does the outside patio. I can’t remember the name of the drink I had, but it was the spicy one with maple syrup. There was actually a nice kick of heat, but since it was served with ice it was still easy to drink despite the hot weather outside. It was a little slow when we walked in, but it was pretty early, like a little after 8 on a Friday. Also, Friday on the Green was going on. I’ll definitely be back again, so I’d be interested to stop by when it’s a little later to see what the vibe’s like.

Wow I am definitely a fan of this little place! I love a good fancy cocktail and this place has plenty of options as far as that goes! I also love infused liquors and talented mixologists! The bar is small but cozy. You can actually hear the conversation happening at your table. They also have a small patio out back. I started out with the Dixie Bliss cocktail because it had blueberry in it so I was intrigued. It also had champagne which was crisp and refreshing. I tasted the bloody mary with pickle infused vodka and it was delicious! My next drink I tried was the Maui Mule. I was actually going to order the bloody mary, but when at the bar I noticed the pineapple hibiscus tea infused vodka and asked the bartender what drinks he makes with it. The Maui Mule was one of a few he mentioned and I went for it. It was awesome too! There are plenty of other drinks on the menu to try here and I can’t wait to come back and share this place with more friends. If you are in the area and looking for some fancy mixed drinks I would definitely check this little spot out. FYI they also have a juke box that will take cash or card. I think this place is perfect for meeting up with friends for conversation or a date night with your boo!

We stopped by Proper after a great dinner at Spice and after walking in, we knew we would like the place. It is just a small, narrow neighborhood bar that you do not see too often anymore. All the staff were nice and courteous and recommended a few drinks for us. They have some cool concoctions(too many to sanely try in one outing) so I will have to trade off between Proper and The Usual for the mixed drink fix. As I mentioned in my Spice review, it is nice to find cool places off the Magnolia Strip as things can get pretty busy there during peak hours. If you’re looking for a laid back spot with nice drinks, definitely try Proper out.

I really felt like I was in someone’s home sipping on my delcious whiskey daisy cocktail, prepared by Mike behind the bar. The décor is simple, but hip. There are a few scarce tables and bar seating. Big plus for the non-smoking. Owner stopped by and said hi. Very nice touch and really added onto the homey feeling. The drink list has a good variety for everyone. They have both classic drink menu and signature drink menu. And don’t forget to look on the board for off the menu cocktails. They have really good specials Mondays and Tuesdays if you wanna sip on something extravagant for less.
