The service is terrible. When our food came it was cold. The only thing hot was the corn dogs. We had chicken and waffles, mini corn dogs, chocolate delight waffle with eggs and bacon. We sent the chicken and waffle back because the waffle would not melt butter. I am a local person and we will Wait awhile to return.

It was good but not great. It’s pretty hard to screw up breakfast, but it’s also pretty hard to make it outstanding. The service was great and it’s a cool place to eat though.

This place is fantastic!!! I’ve lived in Fort Worth for 16 years and this was my first time dining here. Amy was a great waitress. Thank you Amy, for your food advice and the table-side preparation of the best Old World German Pancake that I’ve ever had. Arguably the best pancake that I’ve ever had. Today I came with work friends. I can’t wait to bring my family. My kids are going to flip out over this place.

I love this place! If you aren’t from around here, you might mistake part of the atmosphere! This is not your fine dining, white glove brunch… it’s a greasy spoon. Therefore, there will be great glorious grease! It’s on the tables, the floors, the plates, and in your soul when you leave! Yes, the floors should be cleaner… but they were serving drunk frat boys at 3am, and some of the top business owners of the city at 7:00am. They do an amazing job with what they have to work with! It’s a 24 hour joint. If they were only open 4 hours/day, they would offer fine dining… but then again, they would not be a Fort Worth Landmark! Pay attention to your waitstaff. They have been here forever, are usually very good at their jobs, and really know their stuff. In many circles, they are considered some of the best wait staff in town, and rarely get credit! If you get Mary or Alicia you are very blessed! I would normally give this 4.5 stars! However, it gets a 5 to make up for the recent people who thought they were going somewhere with white linen tablecloths! 5STARS! Go FROGS!

This place is really amazing and the service to get seated was fast compared to IHOP, which was where I originally tried to go to. I had never been here and so I ordered the breakfast tacos. Let me tell you those were the best breakfast tacos I had had. You can tell they the eggs were actually real eggs! Not some easy to make crap. Our waitress was so nice and sweet. We absolutely adored her. I think I will come here instead of IHOP from now on. The only thing I didn’t like was that the busboy didn’t properly clean the table when we got to the table there were crumbs on the chairs, the tables, and food on the ground. We still gave it a chance because it is a Saturday but usually that would make me feel uncomfortable.

[ FOOD ] + The German Pancakes are pretty cool to experience for the first time, but my overall experience at Ol’ South Pancake House is alriiiiight. — The Chicken Fried Steak was super dry, but this was expected since I knew I wasn’t at a fancy gourmet restaurant [ AMBIANCE ] + The breakfast place is a step above iHop or Denny’s only because it’s family-owned and provides that traditional, home-y vibe. It’s like you stepped into your grandparents’ house with a simple look around at the people, décor, furniture and smell.

Found this spot after reading so many great reviews! The wait was probably the only bad part of my experience. The customer service was awesome and the waitress made several recommendations before I choose the German pancakes with spiced apples and bananas. I also had a bowl of grits which most people screw up in Dallas but it was good and made the right way hot and creamy. My friend had the corn beef hash which I’m not a fan of but it was pleasantly good. Overall all the food was good and I’ll take the drive back to Fort Worth to enjoy breakfast and lunch here.

Okay where do I begin here. I guess I’d have given more stars to the place had they not claimed to be the best breakfast/brunch in TX and laid claim to best brunch in Fort Worth! Obviously anyone who enjoyed good food realizes very quickly that all their claims are completely unfounded, period! About the only thing that’s true is they’ve been here since the ’60’s. I really wonder how they have survived since the ’60’s serving the kind of food they do. You can’t call yourself a Pancake Place(it’s in their name) and get an answer from your server that they’ve never heard anyone ask them the question if they have real maple syrup! You don’t know what real maple syrup is??? It’s opposite the high fructose corn syrup that is served at everyplace until you ask for real stuff. Look at the ingredients of the stuff they give out for free, no maple syrup in it at all! Pancakes aren’t pancakes without maple syrup! Finally the icing on the cake was that the strawberries came out of a can!!! Canned strawberries for brunch on pancakes is sacrilegious for sure! Don’t bother waiting on line for this place, at best it’s a late nigh place to eat when there isn’t a real restaurant to eat at open! NEVERAGAIN, EVER!

24 hour spot for breakfast. I thought lyrics enjoyed myself the other night. I had the country fried steak and eggs. It came 2ith pancakes but I couldn’t resist ordering sausage gravy biscuits also. It was way too much food for me to eat alone. So being the selfless guy I am, I boxed it up and shared it with the family for breakfast this morning. And there was still a little leftover again.

This is the place to go for German pancakes. It’s absolutely the best. They don’t scrimp on the lemons or the sugar and you can always ask for extra. I had the German pancake after long time, it’s really worth driving 45 minutes for. I got the free coffee offer from Unilocal so it helps with the bill, since I ate both a German pancake and a Dutch baby. So full I almost explode! I’ll be back…

(In the whitest valley girl voice you can think of for this review) Like this place is the shit. No really, like it is. Let me tell you readers why this place is the shit everytime I stop by this establishment . So, my sister’s drunk asian ass forgot to charge up her phone. Me being the nice sober one went up to the front asked the lovely people up at the cashier to charge her phone for me. This diiirty little betch, named Will ********(I won’t say his last name because his name is the most generic white boy first and last name I’ve ever heard in my life) and the other two ladies that I didn’t get the names of unfortunately, charged my sister’s phone for me, no problem whatsoever. From the service, to the food, and from the atmosphere, it’s pretty . Everytime I visit Ft. Worth from Denton I always try to stop by for their German Pancakes after I visit the bars in the area. TLDR: Stop by Ol’ South after your night at the bars or anytime you’re in the Ft. Worth area. You won’t be disappointed.

My mom & I came here on Valentine’s Day(a Sunday) to try out a new place. It was already packed at 11:50AM. The employees seemed to be moving people in & out pretty efficiently. Clearing off new tables & seating guests promptly. The wait wasn’t terrible for the 2 of us. We weren’t starving so we ultimately ordered a Dutch Baby & the fruit plate to share. We ended up waiting 25 – 30 minutes for our food to be delivered, which was a little excessive. but we weren’t in a hurry. The fruit plate was a pleasant surprise. The amount of fruit was much more than either of us had expected. It also came with yogurt which was perfect for dipping. The Dutch Baby, of course, was very unique & something neither of us had experienced before. The fresh squeezed lemon juice was absolutely amazing. The lemon flavor was so crisp & refreshing & paired so nicely with the other flavors. Definitely recommend trying one out if you haven’t. All of the food at nearby tables looked delicious & smelled equally as good. Our only complaints came from the service. The restaurant was very busy so I understand that sometimes service lacks a little in these situations. We told our waitress that we would be placing a to-go order to take with us before we left. She must have forgotten because she dropped the check off at the table & we never got another chance to stop her & ask to place an order to-go. So we just paid up front & got take out food from somewhere else. I would love to go back & give the Ol’ South Pancake House another try. But I would definitely recommend going during non-peak hours!

The breakfast spot in Fort Worth. You must try the German pancakes or the smaller Dutch babies. I describe them as a crêpe with hot lemon juice, butter and powder sugar inside. Absolutely amazing! I usually order one Dutch baby, side if bacon and half order of home fries. They have so many good menu items here another favorite is a Spinach Chicken Omelette Covered in hollandaise sauce, sooo good! There is almost always a line out the door on weekends so get there early or make it a brunch to avoid the rush.

Haven’t been here in a while since we moved across town but today was a special occasion it being my wife’s birthday we decided to give it a go for breakfast, the service was a bit slow to get our food and when we did finally received it we ordered the chicken fried steak and eggs, my wife’s chicken fried steak was all batter and no steak and mine as well. The batter was a bit too crispy. Definitely not the Old Ol’ South I remember coming too. Might give it another go sometime for dinner but will definitely pass on the breakfast here next time.

Not bad, just not what I expected. The German pancakes were very lemony but I think they’re supposed to be that way. Had a sausage skillet, it was good but eggs were well done and gravy smothered everything so it overpowered everything. Kinda my fault cause I ordered as is. If had to do over would get fruit pancakes and skillet with soft scramble and easy gravy. Place was super packed!

I was contacted by the owner and received a gift card for my previous bad experience. He did not ask me to update my review, but I did actually end up having MUCH better experience the second time, so I felt that I really needed to update this. It was seriously a 180 from our last visit. I think we went around the same time on the same day of the week as before, so that wasn’t the reason. The customer service was leaps and bounds better than before, we got our food much more quickly and the restaurant was incredibly clean. One of the people with me that was there the time before actually asked the cashier if they were under new management. Even the quality of the food was much better. I’m definitely putting this back into my restaurant rotation. It is a nice place to stop at after the zoo! Major kudos to the owner for reaching out and also listening to criticism and using it to improve.

I have mixed feelings about this place. It’s kinda like a denny’s or ihop. We ordered a blueberry waffle and a hamburger with fries. Food is what it is — the prices are cheap and again, like a pancake house chain. It was pretty dirty in here and everyone came in with their sweats on. The thing that was weird was the mural that takes the whole wall in the main dining and the lopsided stacks of equipment wedged into small spaces. The service wasn’t exactly bad, but it was definitely slow. The table of five behind us got their order first, even though, they got here later. It was because our server was slow. I don’t know if we will come back here — it is open 24 hours and that’s a plus.

The Ol’ South Pancake House is an amazing breakfast place. Very country /southern atmosphere with lots of seating. We’ve been a few times and my advice is this, if you go, plan on waiting. Both times we went we waited for nearly an hour to get in. The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. The servers are prompt and friendly. Although my favorite breakfast food is biscuits and gravy, which are good(and huge) here, my favorite is the waffles. Make sure and get the honey butter!

Hey fellow Unilocalers! Do you feel like getting shafted on today’s breakfast/lunch/supper/after bar hours meals? Well come on down to the best place in town for all your shafting needs! Don’t feel like ordering what you paid for? Well don’t worry, we are more than happy to serve you a wrong order of pancakes or pay little to no attention when you’re ordering. We are more than delighted to serve you meals that have missing items, it’s in our 1xx + tradition of running a crappy joint. Oh, but how could you miss our mediocre German pancake, it’s delicious, I mean it says right there in the menu… I mean that’s enough to legitimize it! Or do you want apathetic service where they only have one word responses? The Original Pancake house is for all your dull and blah business meetings. But they promise we’re better than corporate-run businesses! So much better than IHOP!!! *foams at mouth* P. S. The above is complete and utter satire. If you couldn’t discern that then well… tough love :) But to be honest when you were a college student looking for someplace to eat after you studied in the TCU library, the individuals that work here care little to none. I mean, heck, they sure will remember to charge you for the items they did miss. Need some evidence? I ordered two stack of pancakes with whip cream and apples. They made sure to bring out the pancakes and whip cream but no apples. Hey, that’s okay I understand sometimes people make mistakes but… they remembered to charge me on my apples even when I had none. And sadly that wasn’t the first time that’s happened to my boyfriend and I. :(

So Sad… What a let down… I have eaten at Pancake Houses all over the US, and this is the first time I was disappointed. To start, there was nobody there except 1 table of 3 and 2 other off duty(I guess) employees. I stood at the front for more than a few minutes before the girl rolling napkins decided to stop talking to the other girl, and get up to seat me. Next, the coffee was pretty crappy. Oh well, it was 4:30am and I guess a $ 2.37 cup of coffee is supposed to be bad… whatever… To continue, I ordered the Corn beef hash which came with eggs and 3 pancakes. When the food came out, the hash was obviously out of a can, and not properly cooked. Kind of burnt in a couple places on the outside, and under cooked in the middle like poorly cooked hash browns. When I asked for real butter, she said they didn’t have any. Not that they ran out, but that they didn’t carry it. How can you be known for your pancakes and not have real butter… So, lastly the pancakes were awful. How do you screw up pancakes? The mix was so off, the pancakes showed up yellow, and the taste is still coated in my mouth hours later. I have no idea what was going on here, but this was the most disappointing late night food experience I’ve had in a long time. These guys need to step up their game and get way better quality control. Also, SERVEREALBUTTERANDDECENTCOFFEE!!! The reason why I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because when the manager at the register asked me how everything was, I gave her a very brief disappointing review of the food, and she immediately picked up the tab. I didn’t have cash, so I had to pay for a coffee in order to tip, which was still way too much to pay for that coffee. Again, so sad… I will Never come back here, nor would I ever recommend it. Go to Denny’s instead.

I’m usually not a fan of breakfasts. Coming from a place where white rice is automatically served with every meal, especially breakfast, I particularly dislike breakfasts that do not include rice. I know it’s weird, I just don’t really like potatoes or pancakes and would much rather prefer my meal with rice. All of that being said, I really enjoyed my experience at Ol South Pancake house. There was a 30 minute wait when we got here and a lot of people left as soon as they got here because they didn’t want to wait in the rain(the waiting area was packed). Understandable. There is also a Unilocal check in offer for a free coffee or soda, which you show to the cashier at the end of the meal, when you pay, not to the waitress. So I’ve never had a German pancake before, but I can honestly say that it’s one of my favorite pancakes I’ve had. We ordered the regular German pancake to share and each got our own breakfasts on top of that. They also serve smaller pancakes called Dutch babies, and I saw that they have a Dutch baby sampler on the lunch/dinner menu that I’ll have to try next time. I had the chicken and waffles, which I ordered 1) because it came with honey butter and I’m a sucker for honey butter. 2) because of the aforementioned dislike of pancakes. 3) chicken and waffles seemed like a very southern dish to order and when in Rome… The waffle was good, crisp, but soft inside. The two chicken tenders it came with were also good and it came with a little dish of gravy. Prices were great, the food was good and the service was decent. I’ll be back for he Dutch baby sampler!

What does one think about when the words«pancake» and«restaurant» come to mind? Well, IHOP, of course. Though in this case, if you’re really looking for some down home cookin’ in the Fort Worth area, Ol’ South Pancake House is the way to go. Nestled within the TCU zone on University Drive, Kris introduced me to this place for lunch as part of our change of plans today. It is kinda like IHOP, but with a Denny’s kick to it, hospitality, and more localized! Reiterating one of the other Unilocalers, why isn’t this a national chain? Anyways – being that it was lunch time, I decided to order the chicken tenders dinner with mashed potatoes, creamy country gravy, and a side salad. For starters, the salad was crispy and fresh! If you want an extra cup of dressing of your choice, they’ll give you an extra cup of dressing. Next up, the main entrée. The tenders were hot & fresh, the potatoes were made from scratch, even the roll tasted like it came fresh out of the oven! Let’s not forget the glasses that the drinks were served in. Overall, they have exceeded expectations! I might go back there again for breakfast. Of course, I gotta wake up early and make my trip from Irving to Fort Worth. I would also recommend this to my family & friends.

I’m not very familiar with dfw. I’m a born and raised Texan but I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve stayed overnight. I just don’t get the whole area. I’m up here on business and have no clue where to eat. As per usual I went to Unilocal for help. I noticed ol south is around some medical plaza in fort worth. My Wife Unilocaled and we synced to what we wanted. On Unilocal it states no takeout but I called anyway. A nice young lady answered, confirmed they did to go and took my order. I took directions via Unilocal and got there okay. I went inside and my first thing I noticed the dingy old carpet. My goodness did someone truck this in from 1980? I mean this stuff was dank and seedy looking with a musky odor. As I entered the second set of double doors it didn’t get better. Outdated décor throughout was the star attraction. I was greeted by a nice young lady at the counter. Before I could say who I was a lady slid between us and sat my order on the counter. She offered and I accepted to check my food. You know when your food reeks of rea butter something good might loom. The items looked good so I paid and left. When I got back my Wife was ready to tear into the food. I had to nuke it a little bit and get things back to temp. We ate and the buttermilk pancakes are good. She had sausage and soft scrambled eggs which she said were good. I had a personal made omelette with ham, tomatoes and that was pretty good. I also bought dutch babies for a friend which she said were delicious. I thought the place was decent. It’s your run of the mill grease pit. I’d have to get more options for a higher review. The place is worth a try though so give it some luv if you want.

Holy breakfast Batman; why hasn’t some Warren Buffet type billionare turned the Ol’ South Pancake House into a national institution? I guess that would be my immediate gripe with ‘Murica these days. Why the eff do places like IHOP actually survive? Reminiscent to everything I hold dear in regards to the perfect eggs, biscuits with a five gallon of bucket of gravy, and taters… I’m in lurv! After arriving about 9 in the morning; we waited a few minutes and settled down for something from the old school. Water glasses with those old plastic bumps adorning the sides. The caddie of jellies! Various International salsas at our disposal. Possibly the one menu item I’ve missed in the Hill Country is German pancakes which I hate to say IHOP actually helped with until it was removed from the menu a few years ago. How about said above delights prepared tableside!!! A delicate crêpe like cake with powdered sugar, butter, and lemon. Fresh lemons were squeezed at out table and delicately folded into a pillow of awesomeness! Biscuits and gravy were top notch; eggs and hashbrowns kept up the flavor explosion. A coffee mug as a souvenir for the wifey on the way out the door to celebrate Ol’ South’s unique blend of beans. I’m SO in love with this place. Watch out Unilocal friends for check ins where I actually drive 4 hours from the ranch in Driftwood just to have a German pancake fix and shopping at the Dickie’s Factory Store. I LOVEFT. WORTH!
