Stopped by Cousin’s on a layover for a quick bite to eat. This place is take out only but the servers were quick to reccomend the brisket sandwich. It was good for what it was, a fast food version of authentic bar-b-q. I found it tasty but a little dry, they could have used better bread for the buns.

I had lunch there a week ago today coming back from Casper, WY. It was my first experience. It isn’t quite little place as quiet goes in an airport, just a nice, friendly, small town barbecue joint where many of the patrons seem to know each other. I had a pork lunch plate. It appeared to be chopped, although, they may refer to it as pulled(I wasn’t asked to specify). The meat was nice, not greasy, but not a strong Smokey flavor. The sauce was only so-so, kind of a thick tomato sauce base maybe? The fries were the typical frozen, crinkle kind, but were hot, crispy and freshly cooked. The slaw was good(needed some vinegar and sugar…) not my favorite… although the flavor was good. Good sweet tea, I was in direr need of Texas style food from being gone for a week, lol… The meal was a good value. Bottom line… I’d eat there again, but wouldn’t go out of my way to get there.

OKBBQ @ DFW Terminal B. On our way to our transfer flight to ABQ, the Squab & I shared a 2 Meat Combination Platter — Sliced Brisket & Smoked Germany Sausage w/Mac & Cheese and Broccoli Rice Casserole + Texas Toast. The carby sides weren’t great, the sausage was decent, but the brisket was just okay and on the dry side.

Too expensive for small portions. Not worth it I also went to the Keller location the portions were better, but still just ok I went several times to see if it was a bad day nope same stuff will not be back

The good: absolutely fantastic beans, really friendly service(especially rare at airport establishments in my experience) The bad: the most bland mac & cheese ever created, sauce that was a bit over-powering — definitely recommend getting it on the side if you eat here The in-between: ribs and chopped brisket were decent, slidced brisket somehow overcooked and undersmoked You could do a lot worse at an airport, but this just didn’t measure up to my TX bbq standards.

I lost my laptop, my watch, and my cellphone on the way to the airport, trying to catch my flight back to LA. Because you know that nowadays, with all of the overbooked flights, you had better get your ass at the gate in time. After leaving my Mac in the office, hurriedly ran out of the hotel room leaving my favorite timepiece, and running out of my rental car and leaving the mobile in the cup holder, I was practically starved when I got to gate C42. I got in line for some BBQ because I figured I needed some kind of comfort. Having the two-meat special with two sides definitely softened my losses of the day. Mmmm… fatty goodness. I had the chopped brisket and sliced brisket, with mashed and mac & cheese. The only thing that made me slightly grimace was the tang of the BBQ sauce, but I guess that’s because I’m from Cali and only know the taste of lowly McDonald’s-Chicken-Nugget-coverup BBQ sauce. Got some iced tea, spent about $ 13. I’m just glad that I still had my wallet on me to buy lunch.

This airport BBQ started out as Harlan’s and just recently became Cousin’s. As a last ditch attempt to appease my ever-present craving for Brisket in Texas, I had their Sliced Brisket Plate(airport price: $ 9.49). I was just in time to get the very first slices of a new brisket slab. I watched as it was sliced open from the vacuum-sealed heavy bag(this is how brisket is done? Well maybe if a central location cooks it and distributes it to their satellite locations. No matter: it was hot, moist and tasted great!) The brisket was generous, lean, wonderfully tender and not at all dry as I feared. Served with perfect BBQ sauce, two sides(green beans that were still green and fresh tasting! And mac and cheese whose mac was maybe a bit too soft, but the taste was like MMMmmm) and a grilled slice of bread, this plate would have been a great deal at about $ 7 but not when it was close to $ 10. Still, I was happy and grateful for Cousin’s serving me a great slice of Texas Brisket GOOD-BYE.
