We really enjoyed our meal here last night! We ordered queso which was average, but good. We got margaritas, the raspberry was delish! My husband got quesadillas and I got a burrito plate, everything was tasty, and their margarita pie is very good as well! We loved the atmosphere and the service! We will definitely be back!

Refried beans were dry and crusty. Manager said it gets ran thru stove of above 100 degrees. First of all, WHY? It should be fresh and cheese on top should melt since its supposeably fresh. The fajita plate didn’t come out sizzling and the shrimp was cold and tasted as if it were left out for days. The white rice was stuck together, hard as rock and freezing cold. Kids meal chicken breast was tough and cold as well. Kids beans were also crusty and dry. The chips were stale and plastic-like, this should’ve been our hint to get the hell out before paying over $ 50 for the above plus tip. The manager didn’t discount the plates off ticket. Only help was the waiter. He brought out ice cream and apologized quite often for the cold food, also said he touched the rice in back and confirmed that it was very cold. Tsk tsk. Cooks are horrible. Manager obviously doesn’t give a crap. Then again, had he fixed the problem, you guys might not have heard about all this and wouldn’t have been warned. Update: Abuelos has reached out to me by replying to this, nice, hopefully they will teach manager how things should be handled. My family and I spend about $ 75-$ 150/day eating at restaurants due to traveling for work. We have no problem paying for a hot plate, which is why we don’t eat at fast food joints. I’m not sure how to reply to the question Abuelos asked, but maybe you guys can read this update. The night we are was the same day as when I typed this review. The 23rd of May, 2016, about 8:30ish pm. Just in case you need more info about our receipt, we also had a Chimichanga plate on our order and out of the my family, we split it since it was the only thing steaming hot. The rice and beans on the plate were not eaten.

Eating here is always a pleasant experience. The food is consistently good. Always try new items on the menu. My wife had enchiladas and I had the Plato enchiladas with chicken. Both were excellent meals including the sides. Nothing negative about abuelo’s. We will continue to eat here.

Wonderful wait staff«cleanliness is next to godliness» hahahahaha super clean environment, always checking and rechecking the areas, makes you appreciate the effort they put forth… And the kitchen staff presentation of the food and the taste our excellent… We have Been here 8 times and never even had one bad meal(food) or poor experience with wait staff… I’m mean come on screw one thing up!!! But they can’t! Not even our drinks, they don’t even run out… I get the same quality of service at high end steak or sushi places but Tex Mex and to that we say«Thank you Abuelo’s» Honestly if they made all types of food I would just always eat here for every meal

I don’t know why so many people come here. We came because I had a craving for fajitas and other places had a much longer wait. We had to wait about 25 minutes for a table of two on a sunday evening. We ordered the chicken fajitas which were pricey at $ 14.99. I chose refried beans and Mexican rice as my sides. I really disliked the refried beans. They had a weird taste to them that I cannot describe. The bottom line was that they were unlike traditional refried beans. The Mexican rice was bland. Let’s talk fajitas. They were poorly seasoned and just tasted like regular chicken. At least it was juicy. Abuelos does a poor version of Pico de gallo. I think they just completely forgot the lime juice. Bell peppers are also a staple for fajitas and they only gave me three little slivers. The best thing about the fajitas were the onions that were really tasty from being on the griddle. My boyfriend ordered the pork that was wrapped in bacon with avocado and chicken enchilada. At least his side of regular beans tasted better than my refried beans. He would not recommend that meal. Overall I would not come back to this place. It was expensive for below average food.

I love the bacon wrapped shrimp here! I mean i really love it! Oh, by the way did I mention the bacon wrapped shrimp? Lol Abuelo’s has awesome salsas and entrées. They just need to work on portion sizes in order to get that elusive 5th star. I try all types of entrees at Abuelo’s and rarely am I disappointed.

It’s Friday night, your date gets canceled, and to ease the pain you decide to fill that heart gap with some refried beans and tamales, where do you go? Abuelo’s. Excellent service, a rarity these days. The chips and salsa were phenomenal, the queso? Out of this world. No complaints about tamales, tacos, y enchiladas. Excellent flavor, excellent texture, excellent atmosphere. Congrats Abuelo’s, you’ve done earned yourself a 5 star rating.

Came here on a date with my boyfriend. It was a Sat night and fairly busy, we only waited 10min to get sat. The atmosphere is a bit noisey, but comfortable. Parking was also easy. The waitress came pretty quickly and we ordered drinks/apps. However she did forget to bring us forks and silverware but brought it over as soon as we reminded her. We ordered queso and guacamole as appetizers which was delicious. My bf also had the idea to put the guacamole into the queso which made it even better. The chips tastes fresh and crunchy. We also got some salsas which were pretty good, one sweet, mild and a more spicey one. For entrée, I ordered the steak fajitas and he ordered a quesadellia, both equally delicious. The meat was juicy and cooked well, but not too chewy. My only complaint is they didnt give you that much cheese/guacamole/pico for the fajitas. Oh and the flour tortias taste amazing, as they are freahly made there. Definately will be coming back here.

I always love Mexican food. This place is very delicious and we love coming here but it’s quite expenses for the same thing I see everywhere. This is a newer location and located right outside the hulen mall. I’m glad to see this area get some better restaurants and more traffic. I grew up over in this area and it was starting to die out. It’s picking back up and more restaurants are popping up in the area. This place I have no complaints of the quality of food just the pricing. We had some of the best service here too.

It’s been several years since I visited Abuelos. I’m no tex mex fan(how many different ways can you make an enchilada and nachos?) but I must say that Abuelos has taken their food game up a level or two. I’m beyond sick of Mexican combination plates. I really wanted something new and different, and while I was flipping through pictures on the stores Unilocal page, the dish named Pescado Guerrero stuck out to me. I ordered it and it was out of this world. Not at all the type of food I expected, classier and more interesting. Three salsa choices are offered, one of which is a pineapple tomatillo, which makes sense at a tea room, but seemed overly sweet and out of place here. The chips were light and freshly made. And I ordered the Jalapeño Fritters, a very slightly spicy fried cheese with ranch for dipping, tasty and rich. So I’d say I’ve turned back upon my negative Abuelos attitude. I look forward to exploring their menu further!

First time going tonight and I LOVEDIT! Big quality plates and amazing service! If you get the chance to go to this location I would request server Ashley Boon. Made our visit spectacular and worth while. My boyfriend and I ordered a pitcher of margarita and when they say it serves 4 they really weren’t lying. Will be coming again soon!

I have very mixed feelings about this location — I visited yesterday with my family for the first time in awhile. I was very happy to hear that they have a gluten sensitive menu however we had to ask the waiter on three separate occasions for the menu. It wasn’t until he asked us if we were ready to order that we had to explain that we weren’t going to order until we got the gluten sensitive menu. They were not too terribly busy during the lunch hour so I was confused why we had to ask so many times. The bacon wrapped shrimp fajitas were excellent. I didn’t actually eat them as a fajita though — I just ate the shrimp by itself and then put a bunch of fixings on a corn tortilla and dipped it in the provided queso. My wife got the soft tacos with beef and it was fairly disappointing. It lacked a good amount of flavor — unless you loaded it with salt, guacamole and/or queso. All-in-all it was a very poor trip which is a shame because I usually have a lot of success with other Abuelo’s locations.

Dinner out with the family to celebrate the last day of summer vacation. The greatest, fresh healthy dinner experience we enjoyed every bit. We tried the steak meal, fish plate and steak enchiladas. Thank you!

My husband and I love Abuelos, it’s a great place for a date night. They have really good tex-mex food that never lets us down! Instead of one salsa, they have 3 different ones with all different levels of heat. They have a big selection of things to do choose from, and thus far we’ve never been let down by anything we’ve ordered. They even throw in few things on the menu that aren’t tex-mex like the, jalapeño cheddar balls that are amazing! We’ve dined here a few times, and never have had bad service. A few times we’ve had to wait for a table, but it’s not ever been more than 15 minutes or so.

Another place I used to love when we first moved to Texas… that was 9 years ago. The Hulen area is growing and Abuelos was welcomed into a comfy area of the Hulen Mall. I live in this area so everything gets old after awhile, but when you don’t want to go far you gotta settle. I didn’t think this Abuelo’s is as good as the one in Arlington or Hurst. The one in Arlington is called the Embassy or something like that, but this one isn’t? I don’t know. My Grandpa loved it. He would get the Grande, but would call it the Turkey Platter since it was so big. We came here recently and I got the pork tenderloin. Not bad. When we came here a lot I used to get the Sirloin Rostizado or something like that. It was never consistent. The sauce on it tasted different and was spicier each time. They serve prime rib on Friday nights, I believe.

I’m in love with Abuelos. Mexican food tends to all taste the same; meat, cheese, a little spice of some sort. But Abuelos is one of those rarity’s that are able to make each dish have it’s own identity. I ordered the grande one day and obviously couldn’t finish it because it was bigger than my stomach. I comes with a cheese, chicken, and sour cream enchilada, a cheese chile relleno, tamale, and a taco. SOGOOD. Another visit I ordered the grande burrito: a big ass burrito I got mine with ground beef and chili con carne and it’s stuffed with rice, cheese, and retried beans. Also couldn’t finish it but is was also SOGOOD. Abuelos is right next to the hulen mall so when your done getting fatter you can walk it all off by going shopping!

This is a great place. I visited on a Saturday evening and the atmosphere was fantastic. But my dining experience(on this visit) was not top notch. The salsa dishes seem to be moved from another table and there was a hair in one of them. I ordered the most expensive item(bacon wrapped medallion and bacon wrapped shrimp) but there was hardly any bacon around the beef. I brought this to the attention of the server and he took it back to the kitchen. But the manager brought it back saying that there was bacon around the medallion and they were just too thin to see! Please see my pics. I still believe that this is a great place and will definitely recommend. It’s just that I had a bit of bad luck with them.

We had a late lunch as as family today. We were sat right as we walked in the door and greeted promptly. our drinks and queso chips and salsa came out fast. Our food came out just the way we ordered it. It was hot and tasted good and fresh. There was not anything I could complain about. Definitely a restaurant worth visiting again!

I was here for the first time for a party of about 40 people(crazy, I know). A reservation was made, and it wasn’t too long before we were all seated. They weren’t able to fit all 40 people together though. They sat about 30 of us together, and then another 10 at a different area. Food — 3.5÷5 1. Sour cream chicken enchiladas — I absolutely love the sour cream chicken enchiladas from Taco Cabana, but they sadly discontinued those. Sadly, the sour cream chicken enchiladas from Abuelos just sadly wasn’t comparable. They were good, but not exceptional. The cream sauce was a little too salty. 2. Fajitas — I didn’t personally order the fajitas, but they looked really good. I’ll probably come back just to try these. The portion was huge. 3. Side dishes –mashed potatoes — i forgot the actual name, but they’re essentially mashed potatoes. SOGOOD –spinach — this was essentially spinach dip and it was really good. i definitely recommend that people get it. Service — 5⁄5 We had one waiter serve a party of 30 and he was absolutely amazing. He was patient and still cheerful while trying to juggle all of us.
