We ate at a table, not the fancy grill for eight. Wife and I were here for Fathers Day and this was our first time to eat here. I got steak teriyaki and she got shrimp teriyaki. We were very disappointed. The taste was bland and no seasoning of any kind. The sauce was mostly water, very small hint of teriyaki sauce. We tried to doctor it with soy sauce but didn’t help much. We complained to a waiter and a waitress both of whom argued with us saying the meal was prepared people. Never again

When you walk in Kumo’s front entrance, you see a stone wall with a few standing rocks and a tiny water spray. No picture or restaurant name in sight. It is plain and simple! We do not want hibachi tonight so we were sit at the table. The service is fast and we have our green tea and a small hot Sake to warm the Florida raining chill. Wife ordered a Shrimp Tempura and I ordered the beef Negimaki or strips of beef marinated in Teriyaki sauce then rolled with scallions(negi). We shared a side order of smoked Eel sushi roll. First we have our Miso soup and a small salad with ginger dressing. The Miso soups are very tasty but the salad needs to add a slice or two of cucumber. The Shrimp Tempura for some reason is little on the dry side. Normally a freshly make Shrimp Tempura is little moist! Mushroom, cucumber, onion and broccoli tempura are good. The Negimaki has a good taste of scallions but the beef rolls are supposed seared to create a brown crust and a medium-rate center. But our thin cut beef is over cooked! Nevertheless, the onions and Teriyaki sauce made up the Negimaki defect. The Eel sushi roll is made right. No complaint at this department! The staff is attentive and checked three times to ensure our need are met. We have Hibachi here before. For Hibachi in Fort Myers, I still rank Osaka first, Daruma second and Kumo third. Kumo is a little plain just what like you see at the entrance!

Really good food for the price. We ordered hibachi from the grill and sushi. Large portions and sushi(volcano rolls) were great.

I have only been here for the bento lunch box(100 times). Shrimp Teriyaki. They give you more than enough food for lunch. Shrimp, 4 pieces of sushi, sauteed onions, potstickers, side of rice, salad with typical ginger dressing, and miso soup! I’m a big eater and even this over fills me up into a delicious coma. Love this combo. Great price. Great taste. Fast service for togo. Lunch goes till 3pm.

Food was great, atmosphere and service was OK. They are better in food that Daruma, but it feels less fancy. 3 stars.

I have ate at this restaurant and it’s other location multiple times and have never been disappointed. Yesterday, myself and a friend went for dinner around 7:30PM in the dining area. We ordered 3 rolls, soup, and sashimi. One of the 2 rolls was drenched in a garlic sauce(which tasted fine) besides that it was drenched in it, making the rice become soggy and fall apart, the sushi itself couldn’t be tasted due to the overwhelming amount of sauce. We let the server know everything was great besides that roll(we both tried 1 piece of it). He apologized and asked if there was another one we could like to replace it with. We asked him to recommend one with no sauce or light sauce, he picked one and took the other roll away. A few minutes later, he comes back with our original roll and said the manager said they could only remake the original roll without sauce, we agreed and he took our original tool with him. Again, minutes later, he comes back with our original roll and apologized and said they cannot remake or replace it because the menu states what it was and we shouldn’t have ordered it. I asked to speak to the manager. She came over 15 minutes later after we have finished the rest of the food and she asked what roll we would like, we told her the one he suggested. She also took a phone call mid conversation with us which was off putting. Another 10 minutes goes by and we have nothing, we told the manager we did not want anything replaced anymore due to the wait and how much time had passed since we finished the rest of our food and just wanted our check. She walked away, assuming she was getting our check, we never saw her again. A few minutes later, the server comes out with the remade roll without sauce. Almost an hour later, we explained we just want to leave at this point and we explained that to the manager. He wouldn’t get our check for us, went to get the manager. Still never saw her again. He brought the check with the original roll still on it with a 30% discount. It was a terrible experience, the manager was inadequate, and I felt bad for the server who was clearly in the middle not being coached by the manager or had any authority to make the situation right. Neither of us will be back to this location again, it was supposed to be a nice girls night and we both left annoyed and hungry.

KUMO!!! Answer your phone! Check your vmail! It’s full!!! I left my leftovers!!! You won’t answer the phone! I’m crying in the backseat on my way home because you have my shrimp and sea scallops that exceeded any hibachi expectations I could have ever dreamed of and I’m sure you’ve already thrown them out despite my premeditated plans to have hibachi as both tonight’s dinner and tomorrow’s lunch(ballin on a budget, ya know?). I hope I come again. But in the meantime I’ll just dream of the leftovers that would’ve been even better than the original– served cold after a night of marinating in all those delicious sauces you kept dutifully refilling after I drowned my rice not one, not two, but three times over. So many emotions right now. I just wish you’d call me back. Thanks for letting me bang your gong at least.

Stopped here for a bite to eat while driving home to Miami from Tampa. My BFF lives in Ft Myers(yawn), and a lunch with him seemed like an excellent way to break up the trip. Service(and company, obvi) was sublime. However, the sushi combo I had as well as the steak teriyaki bento Jeff had left us both something to be desired. Sushi especially was meh, and looked like something I could make at home, using lower quality ingredients than I would use to make sushi myself. If you go, feel free to explore around the menu and prove me wrong. It wasn’t an AVOIDATALLCOSTS scenario. Just meh. Kind of like Ft Myers itself!

I have gone into this restaurant several times. Today though when I was going to eat lunch there the smell from the door was horrible! Fishy and the smell of mold/mildew was very strong and I left. I couldn’t even walk in the restaurant. I guess that is the end of kumo for us. We can’t find decent sushi in this town without spending a fortune.

I had to update this review. I decided to give them another try. No I have not been foolish enough to try their fish… However, I have been there now 4 times after staying away for about 2 years. I have only done the hibachi and not the sit down lunch. The chefs have been excellent and the steaks, scallops, and shrimp have been just fine. Not sure if management has changed, and I do not know how they would handle it if you have a bad experience… However, I now give my new experiences 4 stars. Hope this helps other people out there make a better decision based on current results.

I love this place! There were some bad reviews so I wasn’t sure but it was great. I stopped in on a Friday night after work. I sat at the bar with a glass of wine and placed a takeout order. It wasn’t very crowded and I got a seat easily. Timing was great and bartender was very nice(but looked really young). Will absolutely be a repeat customer!

I’ve gotten food poisoning THREETIMES here! Twice off the salmon(once in sushi, once cooked in hibachi style) and once off under-cooked chicken, my coworker likes to get soup here on lunch break(only reason I went back more than once– but I refuse to go with her now). Awful restaurant with incredibly rude waitstaff. I’ve had a waitress chase me out into the parking lot because she thought that I did not tip enough(I tip 8−10% for bad service instead of 15%- she honestly didn’t deserve a tip but I feel so bad not leaving ANYTHING) I would not even recommend this restaurant to my worst enemy… the only thing edible here is the rice.

Good food, though a bit overpriced, as far as I’m concerned. We had to wait at the Hibachi grill quite a while before the chef came, but I imagine that is normal.

Kumo is always a great time! The thing we like most about this place is the consistency. No matter when we go, or how much time has passed between visits… we are always sure Kumo will deliver the same product it always does. The food — the hibachi/sushi mashup is great. It’s cool to be able to get good sushi as well as some hibachi favorites. We double date here, and when you do that… it’s easy to sample the menu across the board! I know it’s a simple dish, but the vegetable fried rice is just awesome. The service — pretty good. It’s hard to know who exactly is taking care of your table. Usually we have between 2 and 4 servers interacting with us throughout the night. We don’t typically have any major issues, but keeping track of special requests can be a bit daunting when you’re having to communicate them multiple times. The atmosphere — this is really my only hang-up with Kumo. I wish the tables and chairs were updated and a little more comfortable. All-in-all, this place is always a good value! It’s nice to be able to come into a place and get the same experience every time. That’s a rarity in the restaurant world! Great job, Kumo. We’ll see you again soon!

My wife and I ate there recently. Seated at the Hibachi grill. The service was excellent and the hibachi chef entertaining. My wife had the chicken and lobster and I had the steak. Ample portions and very well prepared. We had eaten before at the Kumo’s in Cape Coral. The food was equally good there, but the service was far better at the Fort Myers locations. We will definitely return

Stopped at Kumos for a 10pm dinner after work yesterday. I was met there by my boyfriend and were seated right away. Although we didn’t choose the hibachi tables this time, I’ve eaten there plenty of times before and have really enjoyed it. We choose to have a regular table, the waiter was very attentive and knowledgable about the menu. For appetizer we ordered pan seared pork gyoza, nice and crispy to the bite and very juicy and tender inside. Wasn’t trilled when I tried ordering a glass of my favorite Santa Margherita but they only serve it by bottle. The house wine which is the only one served by glass taste bitter and not what I want with dinner. My boyfriend ordered the hibachi filet mignon and salmon. His food was delicious, I did find the fried rice was bland but that’s nothing new as I seem to never be completely satisfied with the taste(needs some garlic butter or seasoning). As far as my sushi, amazinggggg! The screaming orgasm was not what I imagine but probably the best thing I have ever eaten in a sushi restaurant, shrimp tempura wrapped in raw salmon topped with spicy crab mix and served in a spicy siracha sauce, yumm! I also had the Asian muffin which was crab, avocado, cream cheese, rolled and deep fried… Let’s just say I ate every single roll! I honestly loved the service and food and have made this my new Friday spot!

Horrible. I read the reviews and should not have gone! They served our last roll(spider roll) way after the rest and it tasted days old. Not fresh tasting at all! And if the wait was not long enough, and the food not tasting fresh, it was ALLRICE as well on that spider. When I told the server, she could and should have cared. She could not care less. Complete waste of money. Real sushi is so much better!

After going here more than several times I had to change my rating. They do this thing where they sit you on a hibachi table but won’t start until they fill up seats. Is you have a small party that could mean a 40-minute wait.

Recommended! Many of my reviews have been on sushi places that are Thai. I don’t agree with the combination. Kumo is a Japanese steakhouse, with hibachi tables. For the first time in FL I have eaten real sushi by a Japanese restaurant. We mainly just ate sushi rolls, but they were all very good, tasty, and crafty with the specialty rolls. Atmosphere was great, you could go with a party of people, or just a couple. Must try!
