HOWL Gallery/Tattoo

Go for the individual tattoo artists, but don’t expect first-​class customer service up front or professionalism. You walk into an «alternative» punk-​rocky art gallery, with separate inking booths to the right. Interesting concept, but you feel like you’re surrounded by pretentious, hipster fucks suffering from terminal ennui and rudeness. Perhaps ignoring customers and making them feel unwanted is the new millennial business model, but I call it shit service. The tattoo artist’s brag books were ok, but I was looking for an artist to work with me on an original concept, and draw up a design together. But disappointingly this place seems to suffer from revolving-​door, wham, bam, thank you, ma’am, color-​by-​numbers flash designs. They couldn’t be bothered by a customer who wanted to talk for a few minutes. Nothing original here, move along.

My wife both got our first tattoos last month from Mandalin. Being older and neither one of us having done this before we were very nervous. Mandalin couldn’t have been nicer or more patient and understanding with us. She was awesome from start to finish. My wife designed something for both of us and Mandalin helps us finalize the design and placement. We both love our new ink and already thinking about what else we want next!

GB was amazing! He took what I was looking for and turned it into a work of art I can be proud of. The prices were very reasonable and the atmosphere was by far the most chill of any shop I’ve been in.

I called to schedule an appointment for my friend an I, who was visiting from out of state. Our appointments were at the same time which was a plus. We are both very happy with the end results. Thank you Mandalin and Thai.

I wanted an arm piece for the longest time and Thai Do drew up this perfect piece. It was everything and more. From making sure you’re comfortable, to starting great conversations, and then making sure your piece is perfect, this place is amazing and so is he. Make sure you go to him!

I was very disappointed with Howl Tattoo. The receptionist lost my appointment and the deposit that I paid. The staff seemed very side tracked and unenthusiastic to be working. I had Mandalin as an tattoo artist. I had a rather large piece of artwork with multiple sittings. On one particular sitting Mandalin scheduled me, she spent most of it just setting up the table, started tattooing and then stated that her next appointment was coming in and that was all she could do today because she needed to wipe down and set up for them, it was a total of 30 minutes that she actually tattooed and she still charged me the full hour! At another sitting she messed up the tattoo and had me come back so she could correct her mistake, she did admit that she had screwed up and she didn’t charge me that correction time. After seeing her multiple times and each time had some sort of issue, I decides not to go back to finish the piece. The sad thing is, I’ve heard many terrible stories since about this shop and there’s nothing online warning people. I wish I would of known before I went there, that its a waste of time.

Clean. Classy. Talented artists. Friendly staff. Live music. Art. Amazing tats. So many piercings. Wine. Local beer! How could is get any better? #HOWL

I love coming to Howl for both tattoos and for art exhibitions. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere is great. I feel welcomed any time I visit. I go to Mandalin for tattooing and I refer her to people any chance I get. She is creative, meticulous and easy to talk to. I can only speak personally about Mandalin’s work but the other artists in the shop are very amiable and represent a variety of tattooing styles. Visit Howl Tattoo and you won’t be disappointed!

My husband and I found Howl Gallery during the year of our engagement. Matt was looking for the right place to get his first tattoo and we visited a few tattoo shops before finding Howl that we just didn’t feel we’re a match. The moment we walked into Howl (at the time, the downtown location) we knew we found the right place. The laid back, artistic, unique, and professional atmosphere paired with the portfolios of all the artists was exactly what we were looking for. And then we met Andy. His passion for what he does shines through his meticulous work and he is an all around genuinely cool, kind guy that we felt completely at ease trusting to come up with artwork that matched our imaginations. He has tattooed both Matt (a few times) and I and has drawn artwork for our wedding that we will cherish forever. Since they have moved to their new location, the convenience and added space has made it even better. Their art shows are phenomenal and bring some much needed culture to SWFL. All of the artists are incredibly talented, kind, and make us feel so welcomed and at ease. I couldn’t recommend a better tattoo shop/​art gallery.

Exceptional tattoo studio coupled with a fantastic art gallery! I was tattooed by Andy, the owner, and couldn’t be happier with the quality of my new ink. The place is huge and spotlessly clean, and the staff is talented and professional.

This place is awesome. Mandolin was so fantastic. She did exactly what I asked for. The shop is large and VERY clean. How many other shops can you buy local art and get ink!!! I have and will continue to recommend this shop to anyone and everyone.
