Being the only dessert food truck at Funky Buddha’s Maple Bacon Coffee Porter Day Festival I maybe had way higher expectations for dessert. I wanted something sweet to pair with one of my beer selections and came out seriously underwhelmed. After quickly placing my order for two Nutella waffles(which were an astounding $ 5 each) myself and the other 100 people waited for the absolute longest time for our orders to be ready. You could see the staff wasn’t very prepared and were struggling to keep up with the large amount of orders coming in. I realize that waffles do take a few minutes to cook but it appeared that they had one girl slowly preparing the waffles and unable to keep up with the constant demand. The finished waffles also did not look like the example waffles that were near the ordering counter. Even though they were freshly prepared everything seemed rushed and very sloppy. The girl prepping the majority of the orders to send out looked frazzled the entire time, like it was her first time doing this. The thing that absolutely bothered me was that the woman taking the orders(and handling the money) at one point went over to help her and proceeded to touch the food right after. Big no no in my book. I’m sure not many of the other patrons waiting noticed this, they were probably just happy that someone went over to help prepare orders. Nutella on waffles is obviously going to taste delicious regardless but the waffles seemed a little soggy to me. When my order was finally ready I did ask for some powdered sugar on top and the girl told me that they didn’t come with it. Seriously? You have 100 people waiting over 20 minutes for waffles. Put the damn powdered sugar on my waffle and carry on. Definitely on my list of places not to return to.

I tracked this place down for weeks because my boyfriend is a serious waffle connoisseur and we’ve been missing it for quite some time. We finally caught up with them at Funky Buddha in Oakland Park. I got a red velvet waffle pop and my boyfriend got chocolate. Mine was made fresh and the waffle had good flavor, although the cream spilled off because it was too hot. His was precooked and the topping tasted better, but the waffle tasted old :/ I may try it again, but probably not because I do not think a waffle pop is worth 5 dollars. Maybe the full size waffle(same price) is kind of worth it, but I think the price is related to convenience and typical food truck prices. I do want to try the waffle and egg sandwich though. Overall, a bit disappointing but still an awesome idea for a food truck. Maybe on a busier night they make all the waffles fresh. On top of everything, the owner is very nice.

This place was too cute. Busy Friday night at Funky Buddha and Chacos had the prime spot and they were cranking out order after order of tacos and tots but just 10 feet further sat this cute little gem. The girl taking the order was so fun and nice and we started chatting while the food was being prepared. I said«your menu is so hard to find online, these guys next door have like a fully integrated website», She then told me about the Facebook page and I asked if they are on Unilocal. The young girl turns around and says«Auntie? Have you thought of using the Unilocal?«Auntie Replys: «What’s that ?!!» … Haha. Guess not. I said don’t worry ladies. I’ll take care of it. Service obviously was amazing and the food was to die for. We were a group of 6 so we split all versions of the chicken and waffles and my fav was the Jalepeño cheddar but all were delish. For dessert a chocolate dipped waffle on a stick with Oreo cooked mixed into the dip and whipped cream on top. Overall a great truck. If you see it. Get in line and say hi to Auntie.
