So helpful! I called several liquor stores in the area to have a bottle of wine delivered for a friend’s birthday and Monk’s was the ONLY place that would do it for me. Highly recommend!

As I was leaving the near next door location of N.Y. Deli I happened to spot Monk’s. Recalling that I was treated to what I thought to have been a rather tasty rum when I was a pirate… well that is a fake pirate but a pirate nevertheless… attending YSB15 — Unilocal’s Pirate Takeover @ Liberty Belle, I thought I would go in and see, if by chance, they might have the same. The store is small, sort of hole in the wall in size, but spotless clean, bright, well organized and with plenty of stock. I went to the Rum section, sure that I wouldn’t find what I was looking for as I had been to a couple of other places previously looking for it, but to my surprise I immediately spotted a bottle of Kraken black spiced rum sporting its«bizarre and fierce» sea creature on the label. Since I couldn’t find it elsewhere, I’m not sure if comparatively priced but also, while I was at it, picked up a bottle of Bailey’s Original Irish Cream which was priced at what was exactly the same price as in one of the other larger chain type stores. So for a small liquor store operation, A-OK in my book.

This small mom-and-pop liquor store seems well-stocked and organized with fine wines and many spirits. The presentation of everything was quite nice. The prices are on the higher end, compared to a chain liquor store. We were fine with buying a bottle of Jim Beam for a dollar more than other places. But when it rang up a dollar more than the price tag(two bucks more than we originally planned to pay), we pointed it out to the clerk. She checked it and said that it must be an old price tag, then proceeded to charge us the higher price without asking if we were still okay with it. It wasn’t worth the fight over a dollar, but we certainly felt a little ripped off and cheated. Any larger store would own their mistake and make the customer happy by at least matching their own price tag. So much for giving our business to small business!
