The crab they used are not fresh even dead before cooked. Taste terrible! Not traditional Szechuan food, not spicy at all! I won’t come again!

Their service is better than when I came first time two years ago. The food is really good, fresh and spicy. Price is great too. I come here once every other month when possible.

Redicilous bad! Food is normal, but Service was bad. No greeting, no smiling, no even thank you. There are many servers, but no service at all. We should go in front ourselves to ask for napkins, spoons etc. terrible! What’s the worse is they charge 20% tip for three people without informing us for the poor service!

The restaurant has huge name but the food and service was so bad. You have to pay cash. You also need to tip by cash. The food was mediocre.

What horrible service! Accompanied by their terrible attitude, it doesn’t matter how good or bad the food is. First, the server is just plain rude. I’m so sorry we hadn’t decided on what to order 2 minutes after being seated. Next after finally being allowed to order, we had a dish with a flame lit under it to keep hot. The flame went out after a few minutes and they refused to relight it. Finally, it has been mentioned by others, but Needs to be further emphasized. Their behavior regarding the tip is unacceptable. First they attempt to insist you tip in cash, then they attempt to detain you until you’ve tipped what they deem adequate. 15% with a credit card? No way, their horrendous service insists on 20%. To top things off, they provide no copy of the receipt.

Good maps tofu, comparable to grand Sichuan in the village but a little less spicy. Service comes with an attitude and is pretty slow. But I did notice the customers aren’t that friendly either. When I smiled and said you have a nice day on my way out, the waitress actually seemed surprised. Lower prices than Manhattan places with similar food. Basically in and out for decent Sichuan food with no service to speak of.

Friday night, early around 6pm, easy getting a table, we were seated right away. We ordered dumplings in hot chili oil, thought they were wonderful for such a simple food the flavors were complex. We shared the Fish in Hot oil or was it another Fish dish similiarly named and that too was delciious, with plenty of medium size pieces of fish in the requested medium hot sauce. The snow pea leaves was recommended as a side dish and they were a great choice. Service was terrific with just the right amount of friendly.

I have eaten here a couple times. Most of the time I have been seated in the downstairs portion of the restaurant. I kind of wished I was seated upstairs sometimes as the waiters downstairs are not as attentive. The food is filling. However, I feel they can work on their mapo tofu some more. It lacked some spice/flavor and color to it. I think my sister and her friends make it better. The general tso is well what you expect… I may also have eaten a better version of it else where. There fish filet grouper was the best dish out of the three that my companion and I ate. I would probably come back here after months not coming here which is what I have done before since I usually have tried a good amount of places in Flushing and I just decide to eat in a place near to where I maybe standing. This was the case when I went here recently.

I don’t really want to start a angry review here on Valentine’s day… but I had a horrible experience tonight… My husband and I came here for Valentine’s day dinner. They sat us in a table with no smile… We ordered 4 dishes which is plenty for 2 people. There was one dish had 1⁄3 left so we asked the waiter to pack it for us to go. He then told me” Why don’t you guys just eat it?” what!!! he was forcing us to eat the food!!! what the heck… This is not the end of horrible service… After we paid our bill. the lady said: give my tip in cash”… I never ever in my life seen a waiter can be this rude to his customers!!! Are you kidding me!!! Then I insisted to give the tip on my credit card because I do not think I should let her tell me what to do! Our bill was 60 dollars so I gave 68.80 as total which was about 15%. Before we left, she said to us that we did not give enough tip… You guys gave us horrible service on Valentine’s day and you were still asking for a tip that was more than 15%!!! Wake up! Guys!!! 15% of tip is from my generosity not because you earned it! I am really shocked this place is still in business and people still coming in… I really wish they realize how horrible their service is and get punished! This is America, tips are earned!!! These ignorant waiters and waitresses need to realize that!

Food quality is very inconstant after eating here a couple of times. About service: Most servers are above average. However, I’ve experienced a very bad & rude service from a mid-aged woman who works here recently. It was on Thanksgiving night. I walked into this restaurant and waited to be seated in front of cashier counter. This rude lady completely ignored me & my BF first and after I talked with her about where we should be seated cause we’ve been standing there forever. Other than seated us, she started to show me a very very bad attitude and started to yell at me which really made me feel ridiculous. Honestly, I am very hesitate to go back after suffering this experience.

Authentic Sichuan. If you have never tried it, it’s love or hate. Sichuan is easily the spiciest food on the planet, only rivaled by southern Indian and some African cuisines. It’s 10x spicier than Mexican or any Chinese American you’ve ever had, so if you don’t like spicy foods, you will most likely not like it here. One of the diners who was with us could not stop sneezing, his eyes turned red with tears and had to leave early, met us later though at the grocery nearby eating a tub of vanilla ice cream. We ordered duck tongues with Sichuan pepper corns, conch with chili vinaigrette, double cooked pork belly with chili leeks, chicken with roasted chili peanut, crispy beef with roasted chili cumin and chili crabs. Perfectly prepared, the conch and duck tongue appetizers were absolutely delicious, duck tongue is truly one of those things one must try, it has an incredibly rich flavor, the seasonings were consistent throughout the meal, nearly everything was fiery hot and we had lots of Tsingtao beer to help us through. The chili crab plate was quite large, about 6 blue crabs and stir fried with tons of Sichuan peppercorns, capsicum, hot peppers, garlic, extreme hot and spicy flavors. Chicken with chili peanuts, basically Kung Pao chicken done the right way with tons of smoky dried red chili peppers. The beef was fried crispy, and served with a dry spicy cumin seasoning. Absolutely delicious. Though it may seem all the dishes are described as similar, they all have their unique flavor and spice ratio. Sichuan is almost masochistic, the heat burns, but one wants more and opens up a different sense of appetite. It’s addictive. As far as Sichuan goes, this place is quite possibly the best place to experience Sichuan food in Flushing, Queens. Highly recommended.

My friend and I came here for dinner after he asked me whether or not I wanted to have Szechuan food or Malaysian food. Both options are obviously delicious and as usual, I couldn’t decide, so he decided that we were going to eat here. While this little gem is located in the heart of Flushing, it’s located up one of the side streets where nobody really goes except if they parked their car around there or know of a secret short cut of sorts. I can’t recall how many times I’ve walked up this street and didn’t even glance at Szechuan Gourmet — if my friend did not bring me here, I wouldn’t have known it was a thing. When my friend and I entered, we were seated fairly quickly and just for extra measures, the table was wiped down and rewiped right in front of us. As a non-Chinese person, I felt a little intimidated by the menu, because I had no idea what any of the things were despite the English translation. However, my trusty friend said that he would order on both of our behalf, which definitely relieved some of my stress. According to him, everything served here was family style, so I assume that people would rarely come here by themselves. He ended up ordering a green bean dish, a spicy tofu dish, a «cold» chicken dish, and a «bacon» dish. Everything came out in a timely manner; there must have only been one or two minutes between each dish coming to our table. Furthermore, the wait for our food was only maybe five or seven minutes — it went by quickly. It was my first time eating Szechuan food and I have the say, Szechuan food is divine. The food at Szechuan Gourmet was full of flavor and could have easily been eaten with or without rice(but obviously, rice makes it better). While the food could be considered spicy by some, it wasn’t unbearably spicy — nothing a gulp of cold water can’t handle. Being the feisty young adult that I am, I could handle both the spice and the excessive oil that had accumulated in some of the dishes(particularly the green bean dish). Maybe when I’m older, I’ll have to watch my diet, but right now, I’m thankful for my metabolism. What makes me give Szechuan Gourmet three stars even though I loved the food was the fact that it is cash only, which will be the death of me. Also, when my friend and I were paying, the server who brought us our check had rudely hovered over our table while I was taking my wallet out. Furthermore, as I mentioned, while the food was delicious, some of the dishes were dripping in oil, which can’t be good for my skin or my arteries. And finally, while my friend and I did get our food on time, while we were waiting, some of the waiters put the wrong food on our table, as they got confused as to which table ordered what(apparently). Talk about being a tease! Overall, I’m a fan, but I probably wouldn’t go back here on my own accord.

I give it a 3.5! Some of the dishes were pretty good but nothing really wow me like some other Szechuan places. Traditional Szechuan is heavily focused on the chili oil which brings an intense flavor of spicies that numbs your mouth. Has a deep red color. However, the chili oil here lacked that intense flavor. Not bad, dishes are cooked and flavored pretty well, just doesn’t have that traditional punch from the oil. Definitely would go back if I’m in the area.

At most places. I always considered Szechuan to be of all spices. If you like the numbing affect to your mouth and the burning sensation of hotpot type of flavors. This is the place. Honestly, we chose a few dishes to try out. I felt like most to all the food tasted similar to one another. Except the fact that one may be a little hotter then the others. The ribs had a funky taste to it. As if it was precooked in boiling water then slathered with hot spicy oil and chilly peppers. As for the rest I couldn’t complain. I recommend the trio vegs. The cold sesame noodles was very flavorful. Nothing else really stood out for me. As for parking. You can find one easily on the streets.

3.5 but rounding down because they gave me a hard time about paying by card even though their sign clearly says you can pay by card for bills over $ 30. Let’s start with the good. Szechuan Gourmet does the«small plates» /apps fairly well. The hot chili dumplings were meaty, spicy and a tad sweet– a nice combination and ratio. The dan dan noodles were made with a ramen type noodle and topped with a spicy chili meat sauce. I’m generally more used to dan dan noodles made with a thicker noodle, but the ramen-like noodle worked well in this instance. Service was also somewhat friendly and helpful, relatively. The tables and restaurant was also fairly clean and presentable, again relatively. The braised fish with chili oil and napa– a staple Sichuan dish by which I usually judge a Sichuan restaurant– was nothing special and something we could not and frankly did not care too much to finish. They didn’t skimp on the fish– a large hearty portion for several people. But the fish fillets, while soft, were too thick and had a bit of a funny chemical taste to it(which I dunno if it’s just me… seems pretty common these days). The lightly stir-fried snow pea shoots, which when done right are very delicate and easy to chew, were unfortunately a bit too tough– so much so that my grandfather couldn’t eat more than a bite of it. All in all, Szechuan Gourmet serves respectable Sichuan food. Just be prepared for some attitude when you whip out your credit card and opt for the small plates.

Spicy foods are not just about inflicting pain onto your tongue and throat. The best spicy foods uses the heat to amplify the flavors of the dish. Szechuan gourmet does just that and is a perfect representation of the spicy cuisine capital of China. The following is a small representation on the numerous amount of delicious dishes offered: Sliced Pork Belly w. Chili-Garlic Soy 蒜泥白肉($ 6.50) — A must must order! Quite possibly be one of the best things I ever ate. The sweet, savory, umami flavors of the sauce are soaked by the tender thin slices of pork. My eyes opened with shock when the first piece touched my tongue.(10⁄10) Thin Sliced Conch w. Roasted Chili Vinaigrette 紅油螺片($ 11.95) — One of the more pricier appetizers but its fair for seafood. The fragrant chili oil provided a smoky flavor to the crispy slices of conch and its so good that you will be even rubbing the carrot slices with whatever oil is left at the end of the meal.(9⁄10) Braised Fish Filet w. Napa & Roasted Chili 水煮魚片($ 14.95) — There’s a reason why this is on everyone’s review. It is no doubt one of their best fish dishes. Soft pieces of fish are cooked in a aromatic numbing chili oil with a generous amount of nappa and bean sprouts. Eat at the right pace and the heat will be manageable.(9⁄10) Double Cooked Sliced Pork Belly w. Chili Leeks 成都回鍋肉($ 10.95) — Another frequently ordered dish. This one is non-spicy for the not as bold eaters. The pork belly slices are packed with flavor and don’t be afraid to eat the leeks too.(8⁄10) Stir Fried String Bean w. Yibin Veggie Buds 干煸四季豆($ 9.95) — One of their recommended veggie dishes. Easy to eat, flavorful, simple. Can’t go wrong with string beans.(8⁄10) Of course, a majority of their menu is really oily so don’t over-do it or you will get a hole in the stomach. However, this is one of the few restaurants that make me wish I had 4 stomachs because one sitting is not enough to try their variety of dishes. If you get stuck, you can always refer to their top 10 list:

One of my fav. Szechuan restaurants in Flushing! The food is not only spicy but flavorful! Most Szechuan restaurants I find is all spice no flavor, but not here I say. not here. I love the wontons in spicy sauce, it’s garlic-y, nutty goodness. The lamb casserole is excellent, tender bite sized meaty morsels and I don’t even like lamb normally… Whole fish in bean paste excellent, spicy, savory and amazing with a bowl of white rice. If whole fish is not your thang then I believe they serve fillets of fish in bean paste instead. The cucumbers in spicy sauce is refreshing and a wonderful dish for sharing to get your palate going. I have not had 1 bad dish here yet everything was good! IMO definitely worth a trip from Manhattan. Enjoy~
