Came here for Thanksgiving Weekend dinner with my family. We ordered a number of plates about 8. Which was really like 4. Why? 1. Small amount of food on large fancy plates. 2. Food was either too oily too salty or no flavor 3. Basic food. And over priced. What else is wrong? Service– 1. If you charge a certain amount for a plate then you must expect to provide that amount for the service. After eating meals like fish. You are suppose to change the plate. Why it took three times to change the plates for my Family baffles my mind. I ended up grabbing the plates myself 2. Everything took too long. There were about 4 tables at the restaurant that was filled, two waiters on the floor. And one head waiter or manager. Why it took so long to get water also baffles my mind. Some points about the food 1. Ribs overcooked 2. Fish was deboned. With too much scallion. One word. Over kill 3. The veggie dish we had. White sauce was too thick and too oily. 4. I only enjoyed the chicken milk soup. Word of advice to Owners/Managers 1. You pay for a prime location in Flushing with prime rent. So if you want to charge premium prices for your food. Customers expect premium food also with premium service. 2. Your plating needs so much work. The visuals of your food once provided looks horrific. 3. More menu choices. The items are weak, and basic. No complexity to it. Was provided a 10% discount in the end hence I have it one extra star.

The one star is for the free chicken soup we got after checking in on Unilocal! Came here for a family lunch on a Sunday because we did not want to wait for dim sum. After sitting down, we tried ordering 4 different dishes before something was finally available on their menu. They were out of a number of things on the menu because«there was a party here last night» and they«were really busy»(a server later walked into the restaurant with three bags of groceries from a nearby Chinese supermarket…). I don’t think this should be an excuse at any restaurant. Their menu was fairly limited but we finally found a four dishes that were actually available and ordered. Rice is not given as a side nor is tea complimentary. Our food took over 40 minutes to come. We were in the restaurant for almost 2 hours and we were still waiting on the last of our order. Will not be giving this place another try. P. S.(Has anyone else noticed that their logo is strangely similar to the Rolls Royce logo???)

I read the negative reviews of overpriced food, quality, etc and ignored all of them. If im paying top dollar for any establishment, I expect the quality and food to be top notch. Rong failed on both. We effectively paid for the ambiance and décor. Dont get me wrong, the place is nice. We felt like we paid 90cents on the dollar for our bill to the décor. Here’s what REALLY ticked me off that night. I went in person earlier to make reservations for 10. I asked the mgr what he suggested, he said the chicken and alaskan crab is good. I said great, how much per lb is the alaskan? He said $ 45per lb. I said great, do you have any available, sounds good we’ll likely order. Let me see what the remaining party thinks. He said, can you leave a deposit for the crab? I said no while thinking to myself wtf and said we’ll see you at 6. My party gets there at 6 while I was looking for parking. I finally get there and the mgr goes we started cooking the crab. My wife and the mgr go back and forth arguing because he took my tentative yes as a definitive yes. We wanted to order it anyway, but the fact that they pushed the crab down our throats didnt sit well with us. They mentioned they started to prepare the crab at 6, it didnt come out until 720! Furthermore the mgr said he had to go out and buy the crab; I saw the crab in the tank 2 hrs earlier when you showed me! The crab was ok. See other reviews for pics and reviews. It was good and tasty, but not memorable. We thought the jap place iki in the same complex was worth the bill from service, quality, etc. The bill came out to be about $ 440.(We only had the crab because everyone was fuming) The mgr and I hrs earlier discussed a 6to7 lb crab. Do the math, we got charged for roughly a 10lb crab. It didnt look 10lbs. Also, the gratuity was on the net, not gross. Places that do that lose a couple of stars to me. We left and ate elsewhere. Again, this goes back to you get what you pay for. While 4star food for 1star price is possible, we paid 4star prices for a marginal 1 star food establishment. Good restaurants are consistently good, marginal good ones are good some days, others not as good but for the most part are ok. Rong is consistently bad I feel. Unfair since I wont give it a 2nd try? Maybe. Read the other reviews, salty. too much vinegar.overpriced. If its good food, its not overpriced right? We received a $ 50 voucher along with our bill. Never are we coming back.

Hesitated to go in because of the odd negative reviews complaining about portion and the like, but felt that there had to be more to the story. The low ratings seemed trivial at best, so we gave it a try. As promoted(and apparently unbeknownst to many), they are making a specialized regional cuisine called«Huai». I have visited there and so I can vouch, it was spot on. I can understand for the people who are not familiar with this taste, they might feel that the dishes were either too plain or too much flavor(misinterpreted as «salty»). But actually, that’s the point in many regional cuisines. Mix and match it the right way, it’s nice and balanced.(Like a cool cucumber to match that spicy capsicum oil, right?) Service was on the spot and very caring. They definitely make the effort to ensure that you were very comfortable eating. They helped navigate the menu and there was plenty to choose from. Although they specialize in seafood(the shrimp and fish were incredibly authentic and delicious), the vegetable dishes were actually the hit of the night: decadent and in a very generous portion. Overall, it hit the spot, convenient and because of all the irrational hesitation of others, it allowed us to sit right down and enjoy eating at Rong Restaurant. It’s a sleeper and a keeper in my book!

Came here because my friend invite me to her company’s holiday dinner. Foods were ok, but some of them were either really salty or really sweet(due to shanghai cuisine). Even tho we didn’t pay for the meal but I’m pretty sure it’s quit expensive. Recommend for large group of parties.

I think it’s sad to see that the prevalent opinion of Rong is that Chinese food should only be cheap plentiful fare and they are doing it wRong. Any other cuisine, there would be praise of the calm ambience and non-intrusive but attentive service. With this it’s just passing dismissal. Any other restaurant, there would be some acknowledgement of presentation and plating. Here, it’s just complaints about smaller portions and high price. Paying for tea? In many restaurants, you pay for water. I took my mom there for her birthday and she had a good time, My mother has problem with stairs, even though it was only a few stairsteps to the dining room, she appreciated the mini-elevator which allowed her to avoid it. All the dishes we ordered were consistently good quality. My mother liked food was actually presented rather than just place on a plate. It helped my mom have a better appetite and she was able to eat more than usual(she’s older and eats much less than when she was younger) What they could have done better, introduce the restaurant concept/philosophy, a story always improves a meal. This would have gone miles towards setting expectations. They also need a «wow» dish, everything was nice, but nothing wow’ed. Also, the area has next to no parking, be forewarned

There are many things wrong with Rong, but two areas where it shines are cleanliness and service. Allow me to expound — Food: this place needs a lot of work. Aside from it’s general over-priced items, it appears that many things were made by some amateur trying to appear fancy. There was too much vinegar in the ribs! The chicken and fried fish were acceptable, but prices are extremely high for these portions! For a restaurant next to or attached to the Hyatt, I expected much better quality food. Service: the responsive servers ensured that our plates were clean and water was full. Décor: the place is immaculate for a restaurant in downtown Flushing. I can see why this restaurant was the only one with many empty tables. Flushing simply has too many good food establishments for this place to compete!

Must try this luxury Chinese Southern restaurant. May not have those unhealthy American style Chinese take out food, but organic, less salt dishes! Really my favorite Chinese restaurant in New York City! A little more expensive than any other Chinese restaurants. Good service, nice people, friendly atmosphere. Must try!!! Strongly recommend.

Went here for lunch with friends. Saw the negative reviews of expensive price. But it’s from my hometown taste, so really want to try. I really satisfied with environment and food. The dishes may a little bit sweet and light, but they healthier with fresh materials. The design is great and decorated with my hometowns’ special«Biji.»

Nice-looking, clean restaurant in a really big space but the food needs some work. We happened to be driving by, saw the place and thought we’d give it a try. The menu is surprisingly limited for a Chinese restaurant.(On the flip side, it would be a pretty big menu if I was comparing it to a non-Chinese restaurant.) I also didn’t see the standard dishes that I’m used to ordering, which might just be a personal preference. We ordered bamboo with sesame sauce, chicken fried rice with fish, and pan-fried noodles with seafood. Service was polite and the food arrived quickly. I was surprised that the portion sizes were a little small. For a moment I considered asking if these dishes were meant to be shared. The food was quite salty, especially the bamboo, which was apparently so heavily marinated in the sauce that the texture was compromised. I liked the pan-fried noodles the best, since the chicken mostly tasted like salt. I think they’re trying to be a good restaurant, but aren’t there yet.

Ate at the Rong restaurant, apparently the Wrong choice. Interior might look appealing but hidden in the kitchen is a poor man’s budget chef. Taste of food mediocre at best. Ordered their top dishes only to find out it’s extremely small servings and overly salty. I suppose they are trying to imitation luxury restaurants but they definitely need to learn to cook. Basically overpriced for what they serve. Not worth it at all.

Went here for lunch with the family. Saw the negative reviews of expensive prices and low quality food, but was actually pleasantly surprised by Rong restaurant. There are so many excellent Chinese restaurants in Flushing and I think it means a lot to say that Rong restaurant is able to bring something new to the table. First of all, the décor here is super nice and classy. Even the silverware looks expensive, and many restaurants in Flushing have the most aged and disgusting utensils ever. They have a great bar with really cheap drinks — the average cocktail is around $ 10 and that’s a pretty low price for drinks in New York City. They have great service. There are many attentive waiters and waitresses. Finally, of course, the food at Rong restaurant was really very excellent. There are many selections on the menu that I have never seen before in Flushing, and trust me, I have been to basically all the restaurants here. I would recommend everyone to come here with their family! I had a great time. Very satisfied with my meal and would definitely come back.

Good: tasty food. Better than average flushing service. Great environment and ambience. Baby friendly. Level with Manhattan quality and presentation. Could be better: price is a lot more expense for certain dishes. Portion is small but was just enough for our group. It’s more about the savor of the taste than quantity. In terms of quality of food and novelty, I give it 5. It’s been a while that I go to a restaurant n I feel like I want to eat more even my stomach is full. The food doesn’t leave you with the feeling of dry mouth, a typical side effect of msg consumption. Therefore, for quality of food, environment and service, I will come back again. Come Once in a while should not break my bank. :)

Rong is the wrong choice of restaurants in flushing. The service is mediocre at best and let’s get into the food… The price for the food is above average for flushing and the portions are SMALL. We had a party of 10 and we have to order a beef dish 3 times and a tofu dish 2 times… Just to name a few. We ordered a foie gras steak dish that took til I was about to cancel to come out. ALL vegetable dishes come out WAY longer than any other dishes. A friend of mine ordered a squid dish and when we followed up with a waiter he said to us «we don’t have squid in our menu». Alright, I guess my friend was just ordering something imaginary… We got the bill and was about to pay and guess what… A squid dish came strolling in… Salty might I add! Rong is WRONG. End of review. Wait not yet… No dessert… No oranges nada.

Beautiful new restaurant. But not sure what’s going on in the kitchen. Ordered a pricey whole fish and wtf it was undercooked. OKAY fine it’s a large fish but have some pride in being Chinese and know how to cook one of the most important dishes on the table. Felt like such an asshole sending back the dish but common that’s unacceptable. After you try to re cook it, the taste is not the same… Now it’s over cooked –_– Also had a saucey pork ribs dish, a shanghai specialty I believe. It was on the sweet side. Not the tastiest. Wonton in soup, plain… Mapo tofu was not bad. Shrimp with mayo was the best dish. It was kind of weird on that waffle cone cup. Strange presentation but actually quite good! Despite the blunder. Staff are pretty nice. Apologies were made about the fish, but no compensation for ruined dish. This restaurant has a lot of potential, but maybe need to work on their taste for now.

New establishment but clean and well intended. The staff are very pleasant and eager to please. The maitre de Yen is so eager to welcome you and that sets the tone for your time here. The manager also was at hand to make sure my friends and I liked our drink. Tasty dishes. Short listed menu but varied non the less. I asked for no salt and no msg in my fish and the chef respected my request. Should be back here next time I have a game to watch at Citifield. Thanks guys.

My brother made a reservation for our dad’s birthday dinner tonight at 6pm. When we arrived, my parents told the hostess that we have a reservation and I guess that they forgot to write it down or added under a different last name. We went upstairs and I saw tables for 4 by the windows and asked to add a chair as we were 5 but no can’t do so we ended up at a table meant for 8 people. My mom ordered for the table so I have no clue what we are gonna eat. I had the waitress translated the order so I can at least know the names of the dishes to write this lovely review. Food: Sauteed Shrimps, Yangzhou Fried Rice(way better than most restaurants), Spicy Mapo Tofu(mama like it HAWT), Secret Sauce Duck, Mixed Gluten, First Rank Mixed Seafood Soup(omg this soup was sooooo deliciously yummy), and Salt & Pepper Pork Chop Wow amazing flavor profile which made my palate bounced off the roofs lol. All the servers were extremely attentive and always there when you need something. Definitely a great spot in Downtown Flushing! A must try on your list!

Bar Review Only. After a Sunday lunch, all I wanted is some stress release to forget that tomorrow is Monday. We stopped by this new establishment because we saw a sparkling bar. This is a brand new addition to the New Hyatt hotel in Flushing, Queens. They occupy two floors and has a classic-modern twist to its décor. My friend and I sat down to enjoy the cocktails that they have to offer. I had the Sangria Cooler. Nice mix of red wine, cherry, orange, and lemon. It was served in a tall red wine glass. I would come back for food soon!

So wifey and I walked by here a couple of weeks ago when they were advertising for workers, I didn’t know it would open so fast. We were in the neighborhood again and noticed everything was up and running and looked pretty classy. We didn’t know what type of place this was and there was no menu outside, but we decided to give it a shot because we like going to new places. The restaurant is designed well and very upscale compared to other restaurants in the area, not to mention clean and roomy. The large lychee coctail was very big but the drink wasn’t as strong as we expected. The fried rice had a lot of fresh shrimp(de-veined and large) but they would have to make amazing fried rice to stand out in this area of Flushing. Our salt and pepper fish was well made, also very fresh and crispy. The pepper chicken was a little too salty(really salty) and that’s why this restaurant lost a star. It’s not expensive but the food isn’t matching up to the price level yet. This area literally has Chinese food on every corner so this new restaurant has to make their food more special for it to reach it’s full potential. The menu is very small, we thought each dish would be super good but maybe this place is just too brand new. I think this restaurant needs a bit more time to get as good as they can be. The servers were kind and very attentive. We will probably be back for a second try. Good luck 龍城!
