This review is base on food only. They have good variety of selections as well as dishes. You get to charcoal grill most of the meat on the table. It’s fun to watch the autorotating griller. Perfect pairing with beer. But it can get pricy very fast. We end up paying about 35 per person. The place is crowded so service can be slow. But if you like to be left along when enjoying time with your friends, it’s not bad.

They have super nice device to BBQ. The price is reasonable. I didn’t see the bad attitude server here. Actually, they are quite efficient. You serve yourself, and they gives the advice for the BBQ. I like their beer also. It doesn’t taste strong, fits to the BBQ well. If you simply estimate the cost, it’s approximately 1.5 times of price of the materials, which is also very fresh. In fact, my friend recommended it to me. I feel satisfied well. My girlfriend, who was a cuisine editor, thinks so.

Wow, I’ve never had a bad experience here. You need to understand you’re not at a 5 star establishment, no michelin rated goodness. So I don’t expect the service to be exemplary. Simply put, you come here for the food, not the waiters. However any time I’ve asked for anything the staff provides. As for food, it’s fun, and delicious. The dishes I’ve tried here are usually very good, exceeding expectations. Their skewers is great too, for the price. I’d suggest trying the fried squid(very very good).

This place has the worst service ever. The server was so rude. The food was ok but the machine was broken. Overall, the worst place to eat dinner. One star is too high for them. Ming xing is better.

If you are planning to visit this place, don’t go. Go to ming xing or other place, the service is bad, but the service here at sol hyang gi is worse. Wish I can give negative star if I can. The service was horrible, the worst I ever had in my life. The workers ignored us from the instance we entered the store and until we left. We had get up and go up to the workers to get their attention. I’m 100% sure that they heard us the first time we called, but just decided to ignore us. They just randomly come to our table to collect dishes thst are not even finished. When we asked for water they just stared at us and say there are still water left in the cup when it was empty. Also there was some red peppers floating on my water and I couldn’t even ask for a replacement because I felt like they would spit on my water. The only time they actually acknowledge us was when we asked for the check. There was four of us and the total came out to be a little more than $ 100. It was a huge waste of money. The food was okay, but had better at other places.

It was another one of those late night food adventures! My friend had previously visited this hidden spot and craved their spicy beef noodles($ 10). We all had a try of the noodle, and it wasn’t bad, but not great either. The whole bowl was immersed with spicy oil, which can get a little overwhelming for me. Their skewers had a really cool machine where you can just leave the skewers on a rack, then it will rotate and grill itself. NOTE: they don’t start the grill unless you order at least 20 skewers!!! We had 10 beef and 10 lamb skewers. It’s not as good as the BBQ carts on Main St. in my opinion. 10 beef skewers came out to $ 15 and 10 lamb came out to $ 20. Will be back if I need a place to eat skewers indoor, otherwise I would probably stand on Main St. and get it from the carts.

The inside is not much to look at. There are a few booths on the first floor and there appears to be additional seating downstairs. . The place was not super packed but, it began to fill up as the night progressed. We were seated at a table that had a rectangular well cut into it. Here is where they placed charcoal and allowed you to cook the skewars. There is a large menu but, besides getting a Korean Cold Buckwheat Noodle, we just stayed with sticks. Our waiter spoke Korean and Chinese, there seems to be some Chinese Dishes but, for the most part, it had a lot of Korean touches. They also started the meal with banchan. We ordered several different sticks, a couple bottles of Cass Beer, and some Souchu. The meat was coming out on these little metal skewars. we placed them over the fire and tended to them turn them every so often. We then meat comes off the fire, you then are given a little mound of dry spice mix that you dip the meat into. This gives it a great burst of flavor. there is little taste cumin and toasted sesame, and some peppers. The waitstaff was super nice, I love that sort of primal dining where you and your friends sit around a fire and grill meat. What is more basic and wonderful than that? Our favorite dish of the night was unanimously the short rib. Which is not what you would expect. it was little pieces of bone that had some meet around it. but, it was basically chewing on cartilage that had a little sweet meat around it. We are several orders of this. The basic lamb and the mutton are also must tries. Thanks R. L for telling me about this place. We will be back for sure.

My bestfriends and I came here to celebrate my bday yesterday after going to Yang Ji Chon and being disappointed. Before I begin my review, I had previously read all the Unilocal reviews regarding the poor lack of service, so we were prewarned and known in advance. So as for the service we definitely did not have high expectations coming in. But I still wanted to try this place as I do love food on a stick and I guess its the novelty of being able to grill your own food on a stick on a self rotating grill that is the allure. So anyways, we go here and as expected the service is horrible. Hahaha… The witness that greeted us only spoke Mandarin and had a huge personality problem. Probably was dumped by a guy or something to that affect(that was the bitchy vibe she was giving off. Believe me I am a huge bitch by nature and I know vibes. This lady needs to tone it down a bit especially since she is in the customer service line of work.) So when we got seated, our table didn’t have the BBQ grill, so we asked the waitress we want a table with a grill, we are there to eat grill food. She looked annoyed and confused as to what the heck we were saying. So then I said it again, this time in my broken Mandarin. So she replied back with an attitude, we don’t have a table with a grill now what you want. We can grill it for you.(At least that’s what I thought she said from her mean gesture). So once again, my bestie said in Mandarin how long we have to wait for another table. She looked at us blankly like we were from another world. So at this moment, the couple from the diagonal table from us speaks to the waitress in mandarin and says we are finish grilling, we can move to a table without a grill since we are only waiting for our other food dishes.(That was one of the nicest and strangest gestures we have ever received from a fellow customer. Thanks guys for giving up your booth table). Next the waitress helped to move the couple’s thing to another table and in the process of cleaning their booth table for us. We got out of our table and started standing up to wait for our table. This action which is a normal action probably gave this waitress a heart attack as she snapped at us and said sit back at your table and when the Booth table is ready I will call you. My friends and I were looking at each other and were like, WTH, we weren’t even rushing her. Maybe she felt like we were since we were standing? Sheesh! After we got our booth table, another waitress came by and started asking what we wanted. So we replied we need a couple of minutes. In which she replied the dishes all take one hr to make, just letting you know. In which we were dumbfounded… how slow is their darn cook that it would take one hr to make a dish. Were they not caring to do business or what. How does this place stay afloat. Btw, we only get one menu to share amongst the table. How cheap can this restaurant be that they only give out one menu. Ridiculous. So when we finally came to a concensus of what we wanted to order, we ordered 5 meats on a stick(beef, chicken, shrimp, beef belly, and squid) and one hot pot chicken with mushroom dish. They also give free«bread» with condense milk dip and four korean side dishes. The so call bread is old and overcooked. Should really be «man thow ~ chinese white bread» that goes with the condense milk. I guess this is their version. Not good by the way. The side dishes were lacking too. The chicken and mushroom hotpot was a little too salty but okay with rice. We ordered three rice($ 1 each). But the dish had too much chicken bones inside as my friend pointed out. The foods on a stick are okay. But mostly lack flavor. But on par with the prices from the asian BBQ vendors selling the same food items on the street. At one point a male waiter or cook brought us 5 semi cook stick of what look like meat with white mushroom. Not what we ordered, but we cooked it anyways, just to find it was tough and we still can’t figure out what it was(lamb tendon maybe?). We didn’t eat that. Could barely chew it. The chicken on a stick came to us semi cooked and same with the shrimp. Which is good I guess as these items usually take a longer time to BBQ. So that cut down our time. Why all the bad reviews? I enjoyed my meal here. We came on a Sunday night and the place wasn’t very busy. We got 10 of the lamb skewers and 10 of the shrimp skewers. Both were very tasty and I especially liked the shrimps. It was grilled until very crispy that you could even eat the shells. And the self rotating grill was very entertaining to play/cook with. We ordered a bottle of soju with a pitcher of bud. And that went very well with the skewers. In terms of the place, they had these booth that were pretty comfortable and service was decent. Overall a fun place. I would definitely be back

(THISREVIEWISFORROOSEVELTAVEBRANCHONLY.) Typical Yanbien(Chinese Korean) skewers place like any other joints EXCEPT: 1. BADSERVICE — Beware of male waiter. He seems angered for no apparent reason and has ghetto demeanor. We asked for additional banchan(side dish) and we were told that they it will be charged with most unpleasant attitude ever. I was with my family and we were disgusted with such attitude. Who gives a rats about paying few extra bucks, but where is this anger coming out from? This guy is just plain unpleasant. Other waitresses were OK. 2. PRICE — $ 15 for 10 skinny lamb skewers? Half of these cheap lamb meats are made with fat and unknown leftover parts. You need to have at least 20~30 sticks to feel full. Meaning it will cost you $ 30 ~ $ 45 per person for mixes of class D boxed meat. My advice: Go to Yang Ji Chon 35 – 14 Farrington St. for better service at better price.

DON’T EVENSTEPINTOTHISRESTAURANT!!! I’m giving this place one star just to write this review, if not this place deserves 0 star. To start off, the service was just horrible! We were seated right in front the kitchen, however, nobody cared to change our dirty plates, water cup filled with skewer sauce(new water just delivered from the kitchen), or to refill our water & tea when every single one of them passed by our table at least two times. I didn’t hear any of them care to ask if anything was wrong, if the food was okay etc. My bf’s sis saw something floating on the water and asked if this was normal, and that was when I asked for a new cup of water… When skewers were being grilled, my bf’s sis was trying to turn on the range hood. A waiter saw it and said«Don’t touch it! You are not supposed to touch it!» Did we do anything wrong? We had no idea what he was trying to say… Food was decent. We ordered half beef& half lamb skewers, pork heart skewers, rib skewers, fried pork in sweet & sour sauce, and lastly rice cake for dessert. And then here comes the most outraging waiter I’ve ever met in my entire life!!! The check was processed, and returned to our table for signature & tip. THISONEWAITERLITERALLYSTOODINFRONTOFMEWAITINGFORMETOWRITEDOWNTHETIPAMOUNT. Where were you when I needed your service??? He even rushed me to sign! YOUNEVERDOTHATTOYOURCUSTOMERS!!! I put 11% tip, and this same waiter questioned:” aren’t you supposed to tip us 15%???” I explained the reason and he literally said I’m MENTALLYILL in Chinese right behind me. I confronted him and he said he wasn’t taking to me!!! WTF!!! If I was you, I would’ve apologized and promise a better service next time. I understand that Saturday night can get very busy at a restaurant, but you all SIMPLYDIDNOTLEARNHOWTOSERVE&YOUDON’T DESERVEANYTIPS! WAITERS&WAITRESSESEARNGOODTIPSBYPROVINGGOODSERVICES!!! Sol Hyang Ki was better than expected. I thought I was going to have Xingjiang BBQ cart food and pay for the privilege of cooking the food myself. Well we ordered our skewers and got lamb, beef, gizzards, and hearts. We ordered some dishes — spicy quail and beer cooked with duck. The quail was fried and some of the bones were so deep fried that you can eat them. This was a tasty dish. The duck dish was tasty but I was disappointed that it was mostly bones. For the skewers, we put them on the fire and the skewers self-rotate. This device kept our group entertained. Everyone gets a plate of mixed spices that goes with the skewer and I have to say it is quite tasty. They offer cumin and hot spices as condiments at every table. The lamb skewers were caramelized really nice and was my favorite out of all the skewers. I the skewers tasted much better than what I ever had at a street cart. This was a unique dining experience and would be back for more. Half the tables in the restaurant don’t have a grill. If you want to have BBQ you should make a reservation. They have an additional restaurant at 136 – 88 Roosevelt Avenue that has the same thing.

Omg I can’t believe this place wasn’t reviewed more! Okay so. This place is ran by Chinese people but it’s like a Korean spot. Anyways, this takes me back to my days in Shanghai eating the best skewered street food. This is the real deal. It’s a pretty fun experience if you want to spend more than $ 20, you can grill your own skewers. Although we were noobies, the servers were very helpful especially with the language barrier and never cooking up our own food in this way. So these are the steps so that you have a sense as to what you’re doing: 1. Order(one can get half orders of what’s specified) ‘one piece’ is one skewer 2. They will provide semi cooked food and seasoning w a rack for cooking 3. Start grilling on the lower rack 4. Once done cooking,(few mins on each side), move from lower rack to top rack to keep from burning and to keep warm 5. Top off with the seasoning and spice 6. On the bottom rack, there’s a groove for pulling the meat or edibles on the skewer to the end for easy pulling off and eating(: Hope this helps! The beef was very tasty. I recommend it.

I am beyond livid with this place. I recommended this restaurant to a coworker and her husband to try something different. When they arrived, they were told«No! Chinese only!» Are you kidding me? I am beyond embarrassed that a restaurant would do this to their customers in this day and age. Disgusting. This happened last Friday 12÷20÷13 around 7PM. AVOID. DONOTTHESERACISTSBUSINESS. .

It is really true — never judge a book by its cover. I walked by this place a few times but it’s definitely one that I would preferred to avoid — mainly because of the pictures of food outside and the flashy lights that make you feel like you’re in a lotto shop. We should’ve asked them to clarify the menu but when you see chicken skewers 10 pieces, I thought it would be 10 chunks possibly 3 – 4 skewers but its 10 skewers! We had the beef(yum), chicken(YUM!), pork skin(ick), sausage fried rice and marinated whelk(YUM but huge)… for 2 people. The menu is endless but the one item that caught my eye was on the BBQ list — bull’s penis. I attempted to take a photo of it but the waitress came by and told me no pictures! Not on my list of food to try but if it’s on someone else’s, this is the place for it! They’re not very comfortable speaking English but if you point and smile enough, everything works out.
