This is a small casual Korean/Chinese restaurant. They gave a couple of side dishes while we were waiting for our food. We ordered Jja jang myung and Korean cold noodles, 2 very popular dish. I did try my friend’s cold noodles it tasted interesting not bad. It was my first time trying it and also the first time I heard of this dish, pretty awesome for summer though I prefer my noodles hot. My Jja jung myung, I like the noodles a lot but I felt there was way too much sauce and onions and barely any meat. The amount of onions was overpowering for me at the end I started picking it out and putting it on a empty dish. I don’t remember seeing bibimbap on their menu it’s one of my favorite and they don’t have Korean BBQ either. I think they are more popular for their noodles and maybe certain Chinese dishes that I haven’t tried. When I went there I think I saw the majority of the people eating noodles. They have great lunch special deals for under $ 10.

I found out about this place after watching the«Castaway on the moon» movie which got me dying to try black bean noodles! haha So I searched all over Unilocal and found a place in korea town at first, well the taste was basically the same but the price — $ 10 compared to $ 3. I can’t believe this place serves black bean noodles for only $ 3!(and you get side dishes as well). I know Flushing has a lot of cheap places to eat, but maybe this one is the cheapest, I mean the portion is huge and ive never been able to finish it without being super full. I used to live right next to this place and now that I dont I miss it so much…

My best friend recommend this place to me. It is a Korean Restaurant but some of their workers speak mandarin. My best friend ordered the spicy seafood noodle dish. It was too spicy for me. Their noodle is different from any other noodle place that I went to. It pretty thick. I ordered the stream ribs. I am so glad they made it non spicy for me. It taste so good! the stream ribs fall right off the bones. The sauce that came with this dish was so good. The sauce had a bit of a sweet favor. It taste like they stream it for a while because the ribs had so much favor. The ribs came with a huge bowl of rice. We also ordered the fried dumplings, but we were so full that we only ate some of them. The dumplings were lacking some favor, we had to eat it with a lot of soy sauce. You need to eat it while it hot, or it doesnt taste as good. I like how they have pictures of some of their food so that you can see what it looks like. In addition, I like how on their menu they have a spicy picture next to all the foods that are spicy on their menu. I think that good because I cant eat too much spice, so I know what to order and what not to order. Overall the meal was good and wasn’t too expensive. It was $ 30 plus tips for the two of us.

I’ve been here many times before this review. I started coming here about 4 years ago when my friend and I walked upon this jewel by accident… I have very fond food memories here. My go to food here is yang num chicken omelet rice combo. I have to see, When I went here recently the price is chaper, but so has the portion. It’s smaller than what I’m used to, but still delicious and big for normal people — yes i’m not normal I eat the same amount as people twice my size. The crunchy texture from deep frying the chicken, spicy yet sweet sauce engulfing each of the fried chicken pieces. Yum. I always the spicy for the extra zing. The omelet rice is meh, but they give plenty of it. It’s made of fried vegetable rice, covered with egg and ketchup on the top. Soup comes with it so if it gets too much, take your spoon and cool your palate with the warm kong na mool soup. Kong na mool is bean sprout– very common vegetable in soups. My friend always get jajang myun-noodles with black bean sauce and vegetables– because it’s 2.99. I have to say though it’s hit or miss. I had this where the sauce is thick, covering the noodles with bountiful vegetables to make your belly pop your top jean button. However, I had as watered down, dry old noodles, over cooked noodles, and where are veggies in the sauce scenario. Even though it’s hit or miss, it’s cheap and portion is pretty big for what you are paying for. I basically had most of the things on their menu. However, I promise you, go for their omelet combo platters. It’s $ 10, it’s huge and some pretty delicious. If not, just try the $ 3 jajang myun. Hey, it’s $ 3 and huge. Can’t complain. Overall, 4 because of hit/miss days, but when it’s a hit, it hits you in the right spot. Absolutely delicious. O and don’t worry, they have more hits with me than misses.

This place is just down the street from where my parents live and we usually head there to eat if they can’t be bothered to cook. They have an amazingly cheap $ 2.99 jjajjangmyun special(sadly, this doesn’t apply for jjajjangmyun without meat. That, you’d have to pay full price for), as many other Unilocalers have mentioned before me. My parents will usually get a large set of dishes that includes 2 small bowls of jjajjangyun, bokkum something or other, and some other dishes for $ 29.99. Not a bad deal to be shared amongst 2 – 3 people. I usually get the mapo tofu without meat and they make a pretty decent one with a nice spicy kick to it, just the way I like it. They also do delivery, but we found that they usually don’t include utensils. Service at the restaurant is fairly friendly if you speak Korean(I think the workers there will know a smattering of Chinese, too? Not entirely sure). Over all, not bad, but not amazing.

It’s true that the JJAJANGMYUN is only 2.99 but it seems to not be on the menu and only on a sign on the door that’s in Korean. It was pretty large and good. The other food like the spicy seafood soup and the fried pork were pretty good too(though in the $ 10 – 12 range). I would definitely come back to this place.

Not a bad place to try out. The food and service is good. The taste of the food was not something that WOW me. The price is the only thing that is Great!

If there is anything that can lure me into a restaurant, it’s the notion of paying only $ 2.99 for a bowl of jajang myun. If you’re on Roosevelt, you have to walk past the firehouse before you get there. I wouldn’t even know about this place if my friend haven’t told me. Walking in on a late weekend afternoon have perks since there’s plenty of seating. With a quick glance at the menu, the food is actually quite expensive, around $ 11.99-$ 14.99. I ordered the jajang myun. My friend got a meatball omu-rice. I forgot to mention, they have 11 variations of Omu-rice here. When I got the jajang myun, it was huuuge! So was the meatball omu-rice. It made not be fresh made, but it’s pretty good. The omu-rice’s rice was a bit on the dry side, definitely not Japanese style(I like Hiroko’s omu-rice a lot more).

The service here is friendly and prompt. The food is mediocre and is expensive for dinner. My mom loves coming here for the $ 5 lunch special. I guess I’d pay $ 5 for mediocre Korean food, other than that, this place is worth skipping.

More of a 3.5 but I’ll round up because … $ 2.99FOR A BOWLOFJJAJANGMYUN !!! That is just riiidonkulous. Lunch for a group of 4 came out to $ 14(including tax & tip) & that just doesn’t happen now a days(I can easily spend $ 14 or more on myself) Let me repeat that again, $ 2.99 for jjajangmyun, and I believe it also applies to jjajangbap & jjangppong. Although its only for dining in this is still an incredible deal. I’ve had other dishes here, seafood and several others & they are all pretty good. I’d say this place is better then Samwongak but DEFINITELY not better then Chinese House(my one & only love, no one does it better) The portion is perfect, it left all of us feeling full but not disgusting I-gotta-puke full. I’d definitely come back.

Mediocre place, down to the boricha barley tea. The brown noodles/jja jjang myung is $ 2.99 all day, which is a great deal(and how much you can get it for in Korea, too!). I thought it could use more sauce and flavor but it was alright. We also got 8 fried dumplings for $ 8. They were only good when you eat them right away while it’s still hot… a few minutes later, not so much. You get four side dishes and fortune cookies after your meal. Not bad, but not amazing, either. Service was pretty quick and they do delivery as well. FYI, cash only.

I came here with my mom and sister for lunch before we trekked out to the Intrepid Museum. There’s nothing fantastic/super-fabulous about this place, but it’s not god-awful either. The one thing that stands out in my mind is the naeng-myeon, because they’re made Busan-style as opposed to Seoul-style(aka standard style with buckwheat noodles, which are skinnier). Busan-style naeng-myeon has noodles made of flour, which is similar to the noodles made in jajangmyeon. I thought the naeng-meyon was too chewy and sort of clashed with the clean-tasting broth. My sister got a great Recession Special– jajangmyeon for $ 2.99(Say what?!) that tasted great. My mom ordered a samsun sachun jajang, less spicy. I liked that better, because it tasted garlicky and didn’t skimp on the octupus. One too many onions, but that was fine. Mom and I switched entrees, happier with each other’s then our own. I’m unhappy that I totally forgot about the tangsuyuk, which is my personal marker of a good or bad Korean-Chinese restaurant. I’ll remember to order that next time, and I’ll get to figure out whether it’s a make-it or break-it deal with this place. Like Cici L. stated, the waiters and waitresses are trilingual, which is a plus. I think this place has something for everybody, but it’ll need a few more visits to see if it’s worth it.

I had dinner there last night with my family. The weather was hot, and the AC wasn’t on. The waiter turned it on after my complains. The restaurant is small and nothing seems to be too special. What interested me is that they serve Traditional Northern Chinese cuisines(Northern China is very close to North Korea). Northern China is my grand parents’ origin. What surprised me is that all waiters speak not just Korean, but Chinese and English too. I think it’s kinda cool. I enjoyed the cold noodle(aka naengmyeon) because it was very traditional. The soup is cold, sweet, sour, and spicy. But, my grandma didn’t like it because she thought that the noodles are hard to chew, which is true. This noodle is definitely not for everyone. Do not order this if you don’t drink cold soup or eat cold meat.

The jampong might not rock, but this place has pretty good jajangmyeon(especially if you hit the $ 4.99 lunch special). Plus, like Dorim L. points out, the restaurant is conveniently located(a block and a half fro the 7 train). But the real treat at Mani 1 is the spicy tangsuyuk(sweet & sour pork). Just make sure you specify you want it spicy or else they’ll bring you the regular(warning: really spicy!). Stay away from the cold noodle(aka naengmyeon), which is a big let down since it’s advertised on a big hanging banner in Korean and Chinese writing in the front of the store. Tansuyuk: yes Jajangmyeon: yes Jampong: no Naengmyeon: definitely not

This place just opened and having just had their take-out for dinner, they’re not going to last very long. Initially, I was so happy they opened because I wouldn’t have to walk all the way to Northern Blvd to eat Korean/Chinese at Sam Won Gak. I ordered the Jang Pong and it was bland. If you go to an authentic Korean/Chinese place, the noodles are laborously made by cooks who take huge globs of dough and stretch it out until they become thin strings. The noodles were processed here. I didn’t even finish the whole thing and just threw it away. If you have any sense, pass on this place and go to Sam Won Gak. It’s worth the trek.
