What a disappointment! We recommended this restaurant because of a visit years ago that was great; but this time it was the«pits»!! Wedding going on and that was the excuse for very, very, poor service. On a Saturday night they had NO beer available for our beer drinkers, food was bland and the«chicken» dish had the bone-in Cornish hen sized chicken for $ 26.00(o yeah, there were a couple of beans in the dish too). I ordered three small plates and none of them came out until after all the others were done eating their main dish. Our water glasses were never refilled, we were never asked if we wanted a second drink, bread basket came with three rolls for six people and half hour later two more rolls. Waitress said she missed the meeting in the morning because she was working at the winery-I think they pulled her in to serve in the restaurant because they were short staffed. We dine out a lot and don’t mind paying these prices if the food & service are good — but this was sub-par at best. Won’t be coming back ever!!! L. Keeler, York, PA

I’ve had a lovely time every time I have visited Château Morrisette for a tasting. Tim is excellent and remembers me after months between visits. It’s always a lovely drive and the grounds are beautiful.

I love this place and have been multiple times over the years for brunch, lunch, dinner and tours of the winery/tastings. Brunch is my favorite — the shrimp and grits are to die for! I’ve always come in a larger party of at least 4 – 6 and service is always excellent. Even brought our preschooler and toddler before and while the restaurant doesn’t exactly scream kid-friendly, it’s easy to excuse yourself from the table to take the little ones out on the deck or on the grounds to get out all their energy while you wait for the food. The lounge area outside of the restaurant is a very comfortable spot to sit and wait, if you come without a reservation and have to wait. The views here are absolutely beautiful; if you come to dine, request a table by the window or on the deck. If you don’t know how to get here, make sure you have directions written out because most cell carriers drop out here and GPS will fail you! As far as wines go, the Black Dog used to be my favorite but I now much prefer the Chambourcin. I’m not really a white wine drinker but Our Dog Blue is always our go-to gift wine because the bottle is just so pretty:) I have found the Chambourcin at Wegman’s and some of the lower price point wines, like ODB and TBD, at WalMart and Total Wine & Beverage.

The food and ambiance were wonderful. Clams were some of the best I’ve had and the shrimp & grits were fantastic.

We drove 40 minutes out of our way to visit this place before any other winery in VA. Decided to eat before visiting the winery. Sadly we walked out after not being waited on after the hostess seated us before two tables seated after us. Walking out was my wife’s choice which has never happened at any other vineyard or restaurant before. Such poor service means I will never return, will never purchase their wine again and will never recommend this place to others.

Worth the trip from Greensboro, NC! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The grounds are stunning, the food was delicious and the wine tasting was free(though it isn’t always). This was an Open House weekend and the food, wine and dessert were plentiful, we could have just went straight to the winery and been fully satisfied, but we did thoroughly enjoy our brunch in the restaurant. My husband had the French Toast and it literally melted in the mouth; the portion was also quite large. I had the burger with a side salad. The burger was cooked to perfection and the side salad was very fresh, though I wish the serving size was larger. It was absolutely a perfect date day, especially when you factor in the beautiful drive.

Disappointed that the dining room appeared empty but they would not give us a seat with a view. Seriously? We left.

Such an amazing restaurant! Gorgeous views, fantastic food, and excellent wait staff. Such a great experience. I would recommend the cheese and cracker platter and the shrimp and grits. Both outstanding and really filling. The wine was to die for as well. If you’re looking for a great afternoon getaway this is the place to be!

My husband and I were staying in the area, celebrating his sixtieth birthday, and decided that we would have his birthday dinner at Château Morrisette. I called and made reservations earlier in the day of October 30, 2015, and requested a table by the window, as I knew what an incredible view they had. We arrived on time with ten or so minutes to spare, and they had our names down, and preceded to take us to a table for two in the center of the room completely away from any window. I told the host that I had called earlier that day and specifically requested a table by the window, and his response was, «This is the best we can do.» My husband, being a very outspoken man said, «Well pal, you are going to have to do better than this, because I am not sitting here with my chair half on the rug, half on the floor, rocking back and forth all night!» The host then obliged, and then sat us near the window. When we arrived, there were four tables right in front of the window completely empty, so I can’t quite understand why this was an issue, especially when I called earlier that day and the gentleman that answered the phone stated that it would not be a problem. Anyway, to make a long story short, the waitress had a cold shoulder the rest of the evening, or maybe that is just the way she always treats her guests. My husband and I were very disappointed! Reservations are not worth the phone call, as they will sit you anywhere they want to. This will be that last time for me!

Very bad server(Alicia) Risotto was sub par; it looked and felt like a rice pudding. Had to wait 40 min for a glass of wine — in a winery restaurant! This place ruined our date plans for the night. Very bad restaurant overall.

My boyfriend and I had a really fun time visiting the restaurant and vineyard, even on a terribly rainy day. We stopped in for lunch during a day trip to the vineyard and nearby Foggy Ridger Cider. We were really impressed with the food. I had the BBQ Pulled Pork Sliders with fries. The blackberry BBQ sauce on the sliders was excellent — and, being from North Carolina, I’m a bit of a BBQ snob!(If such a thing is even possible.) The menu suggested pairing the siders with a red wine, but I went off-book and paired it with the blackberry wine. Turned out to be a good choice; I loved it so much that I bought two bottles to go. My boyfriend, who is Celiac, ordered a bacon burger without the bun. He said it is the best bacon he has ever had. He had the apple wine and really liked it.(As you can tell by the fruity wine choices, we aren’t huge wine connoisseurs!) For those who need to eat gluten free, gluten free items are marked on the menu. The waiters are also very helpful. French fries and fried foods are not Celiac-friendly because there is no separate frier, but our waiter happily switched my boyfriend’s fries for a different side of his choice. And, as an added bonus, there are even gluten free dessert options! We also found the price to be shockingly reasonable for such a nice, classy place. Several of the wines are only $ 5 a glass. Buy wine to go at the vineyard store rather than at the restaurant waiting area bar. The bottles at the bar are marked up $ 1, even to go, which I thought was weird. Seriously though guys, try the blackberry wine.

The place is beautiful and love that it allows dogs. Not a huge fan of the wine I am afraid. The place was empty when we stopped by but the wine was only soso

Atmosphere: Gorgeous views, but I could not understand their seating procedures. We had a reservation and walked by several tables in front of the windows to see the beautiful views. However, we were sat in the corner with my back against the wall and no access to the scenery and my husband’s view was very limited. There was a table next to us that remained open for our entire meal right in front of the windows. Service: Our table was right above a vent and when we asked if we could move, we were given a menu to put on top of the vent to block the air. The girl we spoke to said that she would first need to check with the hostess before returning with the menu. Strange considering there were several other tables we could have been moved to, which also would have had better views. Not wanting to be difficult, we were just a bit chilled because clearly they did not want to move us. Also when our appetizers came out, the server told us she needed help putting them on the table. Again a bit odd, as there was plenty of space on the table where she was standing. Maybe the egg rolls were too heavy? Food and wine: they were out of the two wines we wanted to try so we opted for one of the blends. It was very light and the bottle prices were very reasonable, but wish we could have tried something with more body. We ordered the duck confit egg rolls, which didn’t have much duck flavor, but had a crispy shell. The ham and crawfish fritters lacked crawfish and were a bit doughy for my liking, but my husband enjoyed them. The entrees were much more successful than the appetizers. I had the petite stuffed tenderloin and the portion was VERY generous. It came with a side of Rosemary macaroni and cheese which was delicious. My husband had the filet and it was also very tasty, but more medium well than medium rare as he had ordered. The flavor was very good and the onion straws on top were fantastic. Bottom line: skip the appetizers. Service needs some work.

We’ve hit the winery for cases for years and were thrilled when they could finally ship to FL! On a recent trip to the area for a family event we took full advantage and also celebrated Mother’s Day late & Father’s Day early on the patio of the lovely restaurant. Everything from the enchanting ‘water girl’ who heartily suggested shrimp & grits(ordered and devoured happily by Dad) to the cheerful, efficient, and knowledgeable server(Cory) who engaged and retreated with skill, to the food — salad to desert, all only topped by the view and early summer breezes. Two salads, one appetizer, four entrees, four desserts, and one bottle of wine with tip was just under $ 200 which, for us and for the event, was money well spent.(We took decent amounts of our entrees home and they were still tasty when reheated for supper). There is often live music in the summer & fall & that day offered Bluegrass on the winery patio. Usually there are tables set up on the patio for enjoying the scenery and, of course, wine. At the winery we tasted a couple new wines(and an old favorite!) before grabbing a couple of cases to bring home. This spot is a must. Check their site for music & specials. Also, the OpenTable app worked just fine for us. They even had the ‘special request’ for a window seat ready to go but, fortunately, there was a table outside we were taken to quickly when we asked.

I’d probably give the Château a 4.5 if I could. I took my son there after his recent graduation(from Virginia Tech, where else?). I had made reservations, and getting a table was instant. They gave us a table near the window, overlooking the valley, as picturesque a seating as you will find. The exterior of the restaurant resembles an old winery or castle, which is very impressive. There’s peaceful areas outdoors to sit or walk, and for children to play. The Château Morrisette is very dog-friendly, but that doesn’t mean you can take Bowser into the restaurant. I’m sure he could join you in dining on the deck, though. We both ordered the catfish, which came with a zesty crusting, and was delicious. We also tried the 9 Red Wine, and were very pleased. Naturally I took a bottle home with me. Not sure about the wine prices on the menu, though, as 2 glasses cost the same as a whole bottle. Next time I think I’d just order a full bottle. Can’t say enough about the service, as the wait staff was prompt and efficient, and friendly. What more could you want? Noise levels were very low, possibly because we were not in a crowded area. One big caveat in using a GPS to get there. Ignore the GPS(I mean it!) when it tells you to turn right off the main highway onto a gravel road. The gravel road goes on for miles, through farms and woods, and on and on. Instead, go left which will take you to the parkway.

Told at arrival that they didn’t know when we would be able to be seated, 20 minutes later after checking again was told it would be an additional 45 minutes. The patriarch of the group expressed that that wasn’t acceptable. Total wait time — 30 minutes past our reservation time. Service off to a slow start. We not given wine menus until ordering beverages. No hard liquor available, small selection of beer, and of course wine. While water was provided immediately, it took about 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive. Things picked up. Appetizers came quickly and were very plentiful. and tasty. Our party was sharing bites across the table. Mom had a pretty difficult time ordering, but it’s to be expected. She’s following a dietary autoimmune protocol and it can be hard for her to eat out. They did prepare her some plain grilled asparagus but the chef declined to substitute a celery root purée that was on the tasting menu and she was provided a fresh fruit plate. She was happy over all that they had been as accommodating as they had been. Our meals were very tasty. Mine was not as warm as I would have liked, but it’s expected when you have a large party. Desserts were good. Overall a good experience. We did feel a bit rushed at the end. I know the dining room had to prepare for Mothers Day, but the flurry of cleaning activity made us feel like we had over stayed our welcome. Sunset views were amazing. Staff was overall attentive and polite. Would like to come back with a smaller party.

I have now been to Château Morrisette 3 times over the past 2 years. I don’t understand all of the negative reviews! Yes, some of the wine at CM is widely distributed and can be found at places like Food Lion and Wal-Mart, but that in no way means it’s not good wine. Personally, the Chambourcin is one of my favorite wines, and I regularly have it shipped to my home. I last went to Château Morrisette this past Saturday. We had dinner at the restaurant, and it was AMAZING, as always. I had the filet, and the pimento bleu cheese on top was ridiculously good. My girlfriend had the salmon, which was also fantastic. The restaurant itself is beautiful, the wait staff is always extremely friendly and attentive. All in all, the restaurant at Château Morrisette is one of my all-time favorite spots for dinner. The wine is also very reasonably priced. My girlfriend is just starting to get into wine, and so CM’s variety of sweet wines is a welcome change from most other wineries I’ve been to that usually just have 1 or 2 sweeter wines. Keep up the good work! We’ll be back again and again.

What happened!?! This was our third visit in 3 years. Each time we visit Floyd we come here and the food has been great. Tonight was far from great. It was really inedible. We both had the aged NY strip. It came out way under cooked and way over seasoned. The potatoes that came with it were warm at best and under cooked. The corn on the Cobb was so cold it wouldn’t melt the butter. This place used to be so good what happened?

Château Morrisette never fails to bring an amazing experience to the table, whether you are enjoying their wines at the winery, or their delicious food and service in their restaurant. The views are superb and the atmosphere fantastic. The restaurant can accommodate large groups(last night we had a party of 20 people celebrating my wife receiving her PhD but they can do many more than that with enough advance warning) or a small romantic outing. The winery can do even more for the largest of groups, having a large ball-room-like upstairs area that can be rented out for special occasions. Around our table last night many dishes were ordered, from the Lollipop Lamb Chops, to a salmon Caesar salad, and everybody was absolutely delighted. Our server, Alec, was fun, extremely knowledgeable, and very helpful. If you are going to the restaurant I highly suggest reservations. They’re busy because they are amazing.
