Don’t like the menu changes, staff is horrible and not kid friendly very slow service if any. Prices higher and menu not even classic Mexican just poor decision to make such dramatic changes

They’ve changed their menu! I no longer would dare call this TexMex. No queso. No cheese enchiladas. Margaritas and salsa are still great. Good patio & happy hour vibe. No longer going for diner or lunch there.

Need a ZERO star option. Our guests HATED this place. We were so embarrassed, complete letdown but it’s my fault. Thank god it’s nearly impossible to screw up a margarita. We should have walked out when we noticed the slow service and terrible menu changes. The patio is still nice but the Menu & Service truly SUCK! Either head west on 3040 a few miles to Anamia’s, or north on Morris to any of the 5 tasty Mexican restaurants on FM407 to the left in 300 feet to 1−½ miles between Morris Rd and 2499 Long Prairie. My friends and I expect this place to finally tank very soon with a overdue business death. New Menu, GM and Chef are bad news. Put them on a bus leaving tonight.

Worst decision made tonight– spending hard earned money at this dump. The menu has changed dramatically and they don’t serve queso anymore!!! What??? This place was desolate which was surprising because it is normally packed on any given night. Now I know why: 1) terrible service. Waited about 10 minutes to order a drink, had to ask for silverware 2) never figured out who our server was(we saw 6 different people) 3) food was less than stellar and nothing like it used to be 4) when I asked if they had made some recent changes, we were told that they«had a chef from New York come in and wanted to change it up because you can get tex-mex anywhere.» 5) AGAIN– NOQUESO! One of the service-less wait staff I flagged down said they don’t serve it anymore but that have something similar. Being ignorant, I agreed to try it. It was a bowl of cheesy looking fat with 3 squishy tortillas. Apparently you put it in a tortilla and eat it like a greasy cheese heart attack. We never touched it but were charged for it anyway. I figured since the menu looked weird, I’d just go with a side of rice and beans from a can. Boo. Kicking myself that I didn’t get up and head over to Taco Bell. If you’re thinking about eating here, just go flush 50 bucks down the toilet and it’ll be better spent. The only highlight from this trip was taking a short nap while waiting on «food».

Five stars for the Mole and Chicken!!! It has been ages since I’ve had mole to rant and rave about. I find most mole’s too sweet for my tastes, but the one served at Agave Azul was just right. My huby had the Chili Relleno with shrimp, talk about DELISH! This is one place we will dine at again.

This review pains me… I want to give them more stars because the hand-made margaritas were out of this world good, the food was also really good, but the waiter was annoying as all hell. Nothing can ruin an otherwise good restaurant experience like a clueless waiter! If you are the owner of Agave Azul and are reading these, PLEASE train your waiters better. Seriously, IF the service was up to par, I would probably have given you 5 stars! In a past life, I worked in restaurants starting with Bennigans and Spaghetti Warehouse, then moved into fine dining working in several 4 and 5 star restaurants in Downtown Dallas and Highland Park. Needless to say, I’ve seen the full gamut in service styles and can offer a few pointers for your waiters: 1) Do not tell your table after the 2nd request for water(after sitting at the table for 15 minutes with no water) that you will bring them water, but you’re very busy, so it will probably be a while. Yes, that is precisely what he told us… no apology for forgetting to bring it. I kinda felt like it was my fault for being so rude as to ask a 2nd time after 15 minutes. I was flabbergasted! 2) Do not come by the table every 5 minutes and rudely interrupt our conversation to explicitly ask us how we are doing and tell us(each and every time) that you want to make sure we are well taken care of, and I see that your drinks are still doing fine, but do we want more drinks. It really was every 5 minutes… it became annoying enough that I started to keep a close eye on my watch… and a customer should never do that! And the interrupting bit… sigh… I have two words for you… silent service. You walk by the table and assess the situation without interrupting the conversation. If the waters are low(which they were most of the time), simply fill them up… without interrupting the conversation. If there are empty plates and glasses, remove them… without interrupting the conversation to explicitly ask if we want them removed. I promise you, if they are empty, we have no use for them. Speaking of that, if our drinks are empty, stop by the table and silently pause for a few seconds(yes, without interrupting the conversation). I promise, we will see you, finish what we’re saying, then give you our attention so we can order another round. Did I mention that you should NEVER interrupt a customer while they are mid-sentence every 5 minutes to ask them questions that have obvious answers? Oh, and you should ALWAYS keep their water glasses more than half full… without saying a word! 3) Do not make us keep asking you for water every time you interrupt our conversation ask if we need anything. At one point in the evening, we asked 4 times for a refill before we finally got some more water. If our water glasses are nearly empty, please just fill them up… quietly so we can continue our conversation in peace. BTW, if you have a table that is drinking alcohol, keep plenty of water at the table… if they’re smart enough to drink it, it will keep them from getting too drunk. Okay, I’ll stop ranting now. The food and drinks were amazingly good. I’ll probably come back to see how the waiter training is going. I hope the owner is paying attention! :)

I came here for lunch with my three coworkers and the service was spotty and the food took forever to get to us. Very disappointed

What a shame. You can tell from the reviews this place is really suffering. These new«changes» are truly for the worse as this was a solid(never great) patio restaurant only mere months ago. Now, the food is sub-par and the service appears to be impacted as a symptom of these menu changes and the reception they are receiving. I had the«street tacos», they were flavorless, served on a cutting board(?). Anamia’s wait time is sure to increase as a result of this poor decision at Agave Azul. At least we are getting a Mellow Mushroom in Flo Mo! Agave Azul ownership — might consider a reboot…

Was disappointed to walk in and see they had completely changed the menu today. No more enchiladas, nachos, or queso. They are going for more authentic Mexican food, which is fine for those that are interested in that. We are tex-mex lovers, and probably won’t be back due to the completely different menu. Very sad day!

USED to be my absolute fav Mexican restaurant. The ONLY reason we didn’t go more often is that it was always very busy. So, WHYINTHEWORLD would they change the menu drastically!!! There are at least 4 very recent unfavorable reviews on here, and I agree with all of their points, and had very similar experiences on August 19, 2014, except for the one that said the Manager listened to the concerns. The manager, in our case, was VERY defensive about his decisions to go «back to my roots» and had obviously heard the complaints many times and didn’t want to even listen. What a FOOL!!! You had a good thing going, and you decide to CHANGE it!!! If it continues this way, I do not think it will stay in business. Such a shame, after what seemed like a very successful restaurant to me. The VERY reason we liked Agave Azul was because they had such different dishes, and such variety. It was NOTHING like other restaurants. So, to have him say«you can get Tex Mex anywhere…» and name some chains made no sense. In short, these are my complaints: * The regular salsa and a green one I had to beg for were really good — I could practically drink them. They changed, not for the better. * SEVERAL of our favorite dishes are no longer on the menu: Seafood enchiladas(which I got almost every time), chipotle asparagus and grilled corn(which I got almost every time — have NEVER seen these on any other Mexican menu!!!), all the varieties of potatoes and rice(although the cilantro rice IS still there, but isn’t listed as a side, so who knows if they would«let» you order it). * Charging $ 4 for tortillas??? Are you kidding me? That’ll make you win customers over — not! * The previous menu was huge; had a GREAT variety. The new one isn’t in English and us Gringos had to ask what the dishes were, and it’s VERY abbreviated. There was a second one with a few«classics» that they obviously had to throw together within the last week, because of all the complaints, but it’s not good enough, in my opinion. * The restaurant was very empty(and we saw people leave after seeing the new menu), yet the time to get food was VERY slow. * The service had been going downhill, and we’d had a couple bad experiences, but the very last time we were there with the old menu, we had a waitress that normally works in Carrollton and she was fantastic. * The waitress we had this time was obviously tired of hearing the complaints, and had a bad attitude, but you can’t blame her. She didn’t make the decisions, but she has to hear from all the customers. I’m sure this will result in major turnover of wait staff. * When we first got there and ordered drinks and saw the menu, we asked to speak to a manager. He was never brought out. Our food was delivered by our waitress and a man, so we asked«are you the manager» and he said he was, but if we hadn’t, we would have probably never gotten to voice our concerns, for whatever it was worth(he didn’t want to hear it). I will say that the quality of the fajitas, which I ended up ordering(because I really had no idea what most of the dishes were) was fine. But, you can DEFINITELY get Fajitas at ANY Tex-Mex restaurant!

WARNING, the menu is updated to eliminate all«Tex-Mex» so that means no longer can you order ground beef, chili sauce or queso sauce, which on paper is not a bad thing but in Agave Azul’s execution, it was awful. The only thing left for the kiddo’s is a cheese quesadilla unless they like beef or chicken fajita meat. The menu does read more Spanish, so be prepared to ask your server questions and be prepared that the service will suck. I had to get my own water; twice, go back to the server stand for a kids menu(before I knew about the changes) as well as go back again for our napkins and silverware. The time to get drinks from the bar is too long, and the prices on their beer, wine and tequila seems to be slowly creeping up over time. Finally, the new menu, skimpy on the proteins based on the prices they are charging. Oh, and the new salsa is awful and the chips seem to have changed as well and are now too thick and seem stale.

So I went today for lunch. They are changing to more«authentic» Mexican food. They changed the salsa. It’s still good but not like it was. They are changing a lot of things. Not sure I’ll continue but I’ll give them a chance. Just be prepared if you go a lot… changes are coming…

Where do I begin? I got our tables silver and chips. The waiter forgot our appetizers. They were out of many of their menu items. Surprisingly, the steak was cooked to perfection! This is ironic, because the waiter was blaming the problems on the kitchen. Given this experience, and the tables around me that have not been bused, is say the front of house manager needs to step it up.

And we ask for the manager and he never came to our table. We were there for over 3 ½ hours. Very very very very very disappointed.

We have eaten at Agave Azul perhaps 6 – 8 times since it opened in a Flower Mound. Our last visit was Thursday July 10, 2014. We joined our daughter and her family. All previous visits have been enjoyable. Although the menu is limited and the prices quite expensive, the food quality, service and atmosphere have been good. Unfortunately, the last visit was wrought with problems. Firstly, the waitress waited until after we were seated, had drinks and starting to order food to inform us that the restaurant was completely out of coconut shrimp, the other shrimp dish(some type of creamy sauce) and seafood enchiladas. My wife and I had requested the first two then attempted the third dish only to be told«we are out of all seafood.» My complaint is that the absence of numerous dishes should have been conveyed upon entering or at least upon being seating. The other problems involved poor service with an error on the drink orders and a waitress who did not listen to me repeatedly when I asked questions about alternative dishes(once we were told of the lack of any seafood). And I clearly told her that I needed a few minutes to pick another dish and she hovered at the table. I should have been blunt and told her to go away. It appeared that she only wanted to complete the order(all others had ordered) and submit so she could move onto to other tasks. At this point in time, my mistake was not asking for a Manager. I simply voted with my wallet and left her no gratuity on a $ 70 bill. I will be fair and say that it is too early to call this a trend but my gut feeling from this experience and in speaking with others is that Agave Azul may be headed downward. And I will repeat, this restaurant is very expensive for Mexican food although it does have creative dishes and sides in addition to traditional Tex-Mex fare. I simply expect more at higher prices. I may be reluctant to return(If ever) to Agave Azul.

I have eaten here 4 or 5 times in the last month. Employees are very friendly. The food is good. I suggest the fresh table side guacamole. They have a large selection of tequila. The bartenders make a good Rita!

It’s slipped. Back a few years ago(2001 — 2002) this place was really good, solid 4 stars if not 5. However, the past few visits the quality of the food has declined precipitously such that we’re not likely to return. There is a boatload of potential here, with the inside-outside bar and the adjacent fountain, the design of the restaurant is really good. The bartenders have an extensive drink menu such that you can enjoy the garden variety«slurpee-esque» margarita or one with premium top-shelf ingredients and freshly squeezed limes. Where the failure comes in is with the food. Over our last 2 visits we’ve had the following: Rafa’s Special Enchilada, Beef Fajitas and a Chimichunga. The portions were pretty skimpy and while the fajitas were OK, they were only OK., not great. There are so many places to get Mexican or Tex-Mex in the area that, unless things get back to how they were a few years ago, I don’t see Agave Azul competing.

Another delicious dinner at Agave. Not only was the food exceptional but the service, my goodness. I have familly here from India who enjoyed themselves so much and want to come back before they head back home. I talked to the hostess and I believe the manager on duty and explained that I wanted to sit outside on the patio but I hope it wasn’t too cold outside for my family. We took a little tour outside, and we decided that it would be perfect and they would love it. We sat down and I ordered for everyone. We had to get the table side guacamole… You cannot come here and not get this(Shame on me for my double negative). My family from India don’t eat avocados too much in the home state but wow did they enjoy it. The waitress and I connected about how spicy we love our food, and she made it spicy enough for me and I loved the creaminess of the guacamole. I then ordered us the veggie fajitas, veggie enchiladas, and a chicken faijita for my brother and uncle. The veggie enchiladas were awesome, one came with a ranchero sauce and the other was a green sauce… I loved the green sauce more because ranchero is a bit on the sweet side. We got black beans on the side because their beans do have lard in them but the black beans were perfect for us. The veggie fajitas were perfect as any other veggie fajitas I have had. I feel like they make their flour tortillas in house, they were so good and tasted homemade and fresh. Their salsa is warm and I love that always. The waitress also brought me a spicier salsa which if you love your spice, ask for it!!! I tried a bit of the chicken and it was moist and juicy. As for drinks though, I have to say they have made me better margaritas before, I had to ask the waitress for a double for my 2nd one which was perfect but their margaritas disappointed me this time! My second complaint would be that the chicken faijtas did not have as many veggies/onions it was just chicken… we need some veggies with our fajita burrito guys! Overall a wonderful night at Agave!

We love this place for date night or dinner with the family. I gave never had anything I did not like. I do the nachos with Queso cheese. Yum! 9⁄24 update: Just returned for lunch yesterday. To my horror and disappointment, all the good stuff is gone from the«new & improved» menu! I have been a regular here for a long time, then I go out on biz for a few weeks, and it all changes. It’s more expensive, dry, and the only good thing here is the guacamole. I mean really? Who can screw up that? Sorry guys it is NOT a good change.

I love in downtown Dallas, so I frequent a variety of Tex-Mex; however, Agave Azul is my very favorite. It is well worth the drive to either their Carrollton or Flower Mound locations. I have frequented both, and besides the layout of the restaurant, I experience the same quality in food and service at both. Why is this place so good? The queso, variety of mashed potatoes, and MARGARITAS. This place is not cheap tex-mex, but the cost is well worth what you get. The queso is a creamy white queso and the salsa is a warm. They have three different kinds of mashed potatoes, my favorite is the cilantro mashed potatoes. It’s a combination of two of my favorite foods! Then their FRESH, house margaritas are well worth the price. If you’re up to the cost, they have tequila specials regularly and their ‘tequila imporium’ bar has hundreds of different tequilas to try. One of my favs was the vanilla margarita(I believe this was a special and it may not be regularly available). Their fajitas are the best, especially with the queso added. I’ve had plenty of other items on their menu, and while the three items mentioned above make this place stand out for me, I’ve never been disappointed by any of their other menu options.
