I was excited to see that Taco Bell has finally reopened in Moravian, as I often frequent it whenever I am in University City for a quick bite before work or between exams. However, this location is disappointing to say the least. Even after they reopened as a Pizza Hut/Taco Bell joint storefront with new shiny signs, the quality of their food and service remains unchanged. They are consistent about skimping on their ingredients, and do the same for their customer service! All that being said, it is a Taco Bell. Therefore, I will do what I need to do to get my Mexican pizza!

So this Taco Bell is now a join Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, which is a lot more exciting than the previous A&W version. I have been going to this taco bell for years and it has remained consistently average. I have been to taco bells that are WAY worse than this(if you remember the old Drexel Taco Bell you know shitty Taco Bell’s). I know they have a no refill rule but honestly, I have never had a problem getting a refill. As long as the normal staff are there, you are fine. It’s overall a fine, normal, what you expect from Taco Bell, location.

I’m sure there are lots of little faults you can find with this particular franchise, but honestly, I’m just really happy that there’s a Taco Bell conveniently on Penn campus for me to get my Baja Blast and chalupa fix when I need it. The service here is minimal, but efficient. You normally don’t have to wait longer than three minutes to get your food. The quality of the food itself can vary, but for the most part, it’s pretty standard with what’d you get at any Taco Bell. I’ve personally never tried ordering off the A&W side of the menu, so I don’t really care if they actually serve those menu items or not. Everyone comes to this food court for the Taco Bell anyway… I’ve rarely seen anyone come here for A&W. I do have a friend who says that the A&W fries are fantastic when you can get them because the employees always have to make them fresh. I’ll never know because I just want my Baja Blast and tacos. Taco Bell. I’m just happy there’s one on campus.

Not too sure what I was thinking when I came here. I’m actually kind of ashamed /embarassed about it too, given the general fast food horror stories. It must have been those mesmerizing crunchy beefy cheesy burrito commercials because that is exactly what I got — only because I thought they were 89 cents but it wasn’t. I think it was only for a limited time and I reeealllly missed the boat, big time. It also wasn’t as yummy as it looked when their commercial actor was eating it. Nonetheless, it was pretty good and only a buck something. The staff was nice, but it’s extremely annoying how their fountain drinks aren’t refillable. Their hot sauce is very weak. I took it home and used tobasco on mine since theirs wasn’t cutting it. Pretty much the only thing saving this place from a one star is the friendly staff(from my own experience) and me not finding a band-aid in the food or anything or equal or more disgusting-ness.

The Moravian Food Court is potentially the most depressing place to eat on campus despite its spaciousness, if you’re a Penn student, because it’s bleak, grubby, and you can’t work, but if you’re really trying to save on cash, then I guess it can’t be helped… Indeed, every sad time I find myself in Moravian, the most affordable/consistent restaurant of the few featured is the Taco Bell/A&W combo. As a vegetarian, I have limited options with the Taco Bell food, but I’ve always had standard Taco Bell quality food coming here… the prices *are* higher than most Taco Bells I’ve seen around the country, but I’m not sure if that’s just a Pennsylvania thing or a Penn thing. The lines move fast though, and the workers are not unfriendly, so if you’re looking for a quick, cheapish, unhealthy, depressing bite on Penn’s campus, this is the place to go.

It’s a good place to go if your a broke college student like myself. But other than that I don’t recommend it for anything else. I never knew about this place until one day after I finished class and was in need of a cheap snack. Sad to say my expectations weren’t to hi that day.

No refills policy, on self serve fountain soda. Get outta here! If you’re going to offer fountain soda and a place to sit, I’m going to refill it as many times I well please. And refill it I did. Last I checked, this was America. The only times I tend to see no refills policies are in fancy restaurants, and some chains in Canada. But not in ANYOTHER fast food style /cafeteria in America! And certainly never expected this in A&W, a noteworthy SODA brand! PS: your typical customer base may pay nearly quarter of a million dollars EACH to live at this college in University City Philadelphia. Did it not occur to you, A&W-Taco Bell hybrid, that if you could afford them a free soda refill to get them hooked on your bread, you’d be making more money in the long run to pay your overhead, and hence, you might not have to be concerned out of such a trivial thing as bagged soda syrup inventory, you gluts? If I were a PENN student with any standards for service, I don’t think I would patron a place that tries to enforce rationing on soda. Meanwhile, the soap dispenser in this café was not working on a given Saturday, and the A&W fountain was not in service either. So it would appear that this place is ultimately concerned about lining their pockets, and not relining their soda and their soap. What’s that sound? Cheap cheap! Cheap cheap! I wonder if A&W/TB Corporate and the Board of Health and Dr. Amy Guttman know about such atrocities.

I always feel awkward asking for the A&W menu here because the employees seem so reluctant to make it and it generally takes forever b/c they don’t have any of it pre-prepped for the most part. I don’t mind that part though; I’d take fresh fries and cheese curds over something that has been sitting around a while. However, like Sara, I have been told that they weren’t doing the A&W side, and once, that they had NO burgers… running out of burgers is a strange thing for a burger joint with minimal traffic…

I’ve been to this place 3 times and 2 of those times they’ve told me(rather rudely, I might add) that they«ain’t doin’» the A&W side. I’m not sure why, it was the middle of the day/dinner time. And, one of the times, one of the employees was eating an A&W burger while saying the A&W side wasn’t open. Not sure if those delicious cheese curds are worth the frustration of going back there to try again…

This Taco Bell & A&W Express is located in the same food court as Quizno’s and the La Famiglia Pizza place right next to UPenn’s campus. Pretty standard Taco Bell Express. They do a pretty good job at moving through the sometimes long lines. The soda fountain seems to be screwed up 8 times out of 10. Deductions for that. Overall though, good spot if you’re craving TB.
