Dueling pianos this is not, so let’s get that out there first. Mike, the lone piano talent, earns the single star of my review by himself. He is talented, spirited, and fun from start — at 8:55, not 8 as i had been told — to finish. Jolly’s, once located in u-city, has moved to this location. I’m not positive why they moved here or why they chose to keep the name when nothing has stayed the same. The décor is dingy at best; our table was one of those folding tables with the plastic top(you know, the kind you played beer pong on in your basement in college). The walls are lined with a sheer curtain-like fabric, stapled near the top to adhere it. The carpet, once zebra, now resembles the dirty snow banks outside. And what few booths there are have a «custom» upholstery of red pleather, stapled over them in much the same fashion as the wall covering. Moving on to service… Our waitress was sweet, though either unable to handle the place alone or unable to solve the service back ups amongst other positions. Upon arrival, we waited several minutes before she came to take drink orders. The options are extremely limited — 3 total beers: Blue Moon, Yuengling, or Coors Light, and as for cocktails, there is no menu but our waitress knew«they can make a cosmo» at least. The food menu is small but sounds tasty. Don’t be fooled. We ordered cheeseburger spring rolls and short rib mac n’ cheese as appetizers. The spring rolls were the best thing I had all night. The mac was soupy with overcooked noodles but flavor wise, acceptable. The salad I ordered, the spinach salad, came without the pickled onions described on the menu. That description also included«roasted tomatoes,» a far cry from the 2 halves of cherry tomatoes I got. In addition, the spinach included stems galore. Yuck. Otherwise, the fried goat cheese in it was tasty, and the salad was well dressed; I’ll give them that. My fiancé ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The bun came out so soggy that he couldn’t pick it up, and since the waitress was nowhere to be found, he waited until I finished, then took my fork and knife to eat with. The couple we were with had a cheeseburger, which was cooked the way they had asked and with all the fixings requested. They also ordered salmon oscar, but it came out so fishy smelling(I swear it had canned fish on top) that they set it aside without touching it. One final gripe: I have to mention that I went to Jolly’s solely because I had been given City Dining Cards as a holiday gift and found the idea of a dueling piano bar intriguing. Aside from the fact that, as stated earlier, their are no dueling pianos, they also refused to accept the dining card because they changed locations. The manager came out and explained very nicely that he didn’t receive any revenue from the sale of those cards, so he couldn’t take the $ 10 discount off. Really? I’d say that since the cards are good until 12÷31÷14 and he just took over the business, he should think about ways to make new customers happy… though it looks like this is the LAST of his problems at this point. What a dump.
