Best soul food in Philly! Wings were cooked to perfection. Best mac and cheese I’ve had at a soul food restaurant.

I stopped in for lunch on a weekday. There was one person ahead of me they took my order and food was out in 10min. Got back to my office food was still hot and boy was it good. Got the fish hoagie, lettuce tomato and pickles were very fresh. To my surprise it even came with fries. Ive gotten a lot of fish hoagie they’ve never come with anything extra. Had the second half for dinner that night.

In from DC, looking for a late evening meal. Note to self: find somewhere else. This place was so so, but maybe the emptiness was sign. While I did go at 7:40pm on a Friday night, the food was less than good. Chicken was fried fine and tasted ok, but was as small as a pigeon leg. Forget the sides all together hence the reason for the two stars.

This place is amazing. I recently moved to Philadelphia and have been on a mission trying to find great soul food. I have tried a couple of places, but Jim and Rita’s take the cake. From the appetizing chicken, to the crispy turkey chops, to the delicious pound cake, my mouth was in food heaven the whole time. I plan on visiting Jim and Rita’s more often. I will also be recommending this place to everybody I know. You will not be disappointed coming here!

For the type of restaurant it is — Jim & Rita’s is as good as it gets! Now if you are looking for Le Bec Fin — this is not it — you need to dine elsewhere. However, if you want DELICIOUS, food and great service then PLEASE try this homestyle BYOB. My husband and I are just regular folks who can enjoy ourselves just about anywhere and we have taken such a liking to this comfortable, family friendly, local restaurant. Must try the crab fries!!!

The food is really good here, however, customer service makes a huge difference… they have to train their waitresses on customer service skills. i understand that it’s a family establishment and they would like to keep their family employed. however, hiring family will be the death of their business.
1) Walked in I saw the waitress come out the kithen go back in at least 3 times w/​out acknowledgement only one other customer was there.
2) They close at 9, however, stop serving @ 8:30 i came in at 8:23 the waitress said they were done.
3) Waitress no smiles just dry
4) Waited so long to be served I left out.
mind you these are all different visits… I know your probably saying why do I keep going back… only because I try to support the local establishments and the food is really good.
The cooks in the kitchen are much nicer than the waitress…

Ordered the fried chicken entrée with collard greens and mac&cheese. I also tried the candied sweets. The mac&cheese was just ok, but everything else was delicious. This was my first time ordering from here, but I will definitely be back. Also, expect to wait 25 – 30 min for your food unless you call ahead.

My parents absolutely rave about this place every time I’m in town. Now every time I am in town we make a trip here for lunch.
The service is great even with the high volume of take out orders. The food… I love it. I always say that I will get someone new when I’m there but once I get there I order the same entrée every time! (Grilled Salmon with Special Sauce)
Definitely recommend especially if you are a La Salle University student it’s right around the corner!

Great place and delicious food! Fried fish, collard greens and potato salad, what a wonderful Friday night meal!!! I’ve had everything on the menu, absolutely delicious!

I had take-​out from here which was meatloaf with a side of mac and cheese and collard greens. Food tasted great and I will definitely be back!

I love love looooovveeeed their food when I first tried it ! I’m not from this state and I can truly say that their food took me back home to my southern roots! The turkey wings were just right the greens and the mac and cheese! One of the best places I’ve eaten from since being in this state!

I totally recommend this place! It is so yummy. The entrees are seasoned to perfection & so are the sides. I have been here twice & every time, I tend to get the Half Rotisserie chicken with Mac & Cheese & also greens. The chicken is super tasty & very tender. The Mac & cheese is my fave! & the greens are ok! But all in all, it’s a winner. While you’re there, try some of their cakes –you’ll be sure to fall in love!

Good Lord this place is amazing!!! Great food with very large portions. I don’t take pics of food anymore, but maybe next time I will. Great job folks. I’ll be back very soon.

I tried this spot because a friend referred me. It isn’t that far from my house and I had no idea about this place. I told my boyfriend about it. One day my boyfriend went in and brought home the fried chicken wings. The fried chicken wings were amazing. I seriously wanted to retire from frying chicken after I had these wings. You have these wings one time and you are hooked. Literally addicted to these chicken wings. Way better than Ms. Tootsie’s! I also like the Collard Greens, Mac and Cheese and sweet potato cake mmmmmm! Those are the only things I tried b/​c I am hooked on that meal. Definitely worth a try! I always order to go one day I will try the dine in experience

This is probably the best soul food place in Philly– Id almost put my life on it! They need more staff yes, and the food does take a while unless you call ahead, but. nothing crazy… you might wait 30 minutes max… but good food takes time! Those chicken wings are consistently good… the mac and cheese is pretty good… I wont say amazing, but really good– the cabbage is fresh and seasoned to perfection. and their cakes… omg! So moist… They even take orders for businesses… yea…trust this big boi… this is the place!

After my initial visit 2 years ago, my family and I order food her frequently for take out. The food is still delicious and the customer service is great.

If your looking for soul food like your mama and grandma use to cook this is not the spot, horrible service and the food was bland smh … If your thinking bout coming here i would pass

Diamond in the rough! Home cooked meals and desserts!!! Classic soul food!!! Reasonable prices! Clean, professional location!!! My god, I have found my go to place for home cooked meals!

Great place to fill up your tummy with food. Delish!!! The sweet potato pound cake is everything you’ll ever want in a cake.
