Philly has hundreds of great sandwiches to choose from. George’s is one of the top five roast pork sandwiches I have ever had, and I have had a lot. The staff is speedy and freindly. I just wish they had longer hours.

Go-to for the diner-style breakfast. Pancakes and shoestring hashbrowns with that flat-top crisp.

What I love about this place are the delicious breakfast sandwiches. In the center of the insanely busy Italian Market on the weekends, it’s not that difficult to get a seat in George’s for breakfast. We usually pop in for sandwiches as we produce shop. And that’s my favorite part of our weekly routine.

The roast pork sandwich is awesome! It’s the best one of had in Philly so far. I had mine with greens, a hot pepper, fried onions, and provolone. So good and juicy! The bread absorbs all the juices which makes it delicious as well. Is rate George’s four and a half stars.

TDF pork Sammie with prov, rabe and love Chx Parm was masterful. I wish I were a regular but all were welcomed. The diet coke had been cooled to 5 Celsius, which I found uplifting. Can’t say enough about friendly staff.

The pork sandwich is truly one of the greatest sandwiches in one of the greatest sandwich cities. No cheesesteak can come close. The tender, crusty bread is the perfect vessel to hold warm slices of pork dripping with fat. Add some broccoli rabe, sharp provologne, and a hot pickled pepper and you have yourself a masterpiece. In some ways I’m glad I don’t live in Philly anymore for the health of my arteries. I still miss this sandwich and stop by every time I’m in town.

Don’t let the hole in the wall feel fool you this place is fantastic. A must have whenever I’m in the area. Can’t go wrong ordering any sandwich, everything is fresh and delicious. The service is quick and the staff are just as friendly and colorful as the regulars enjoying their meal at the small counter inside. Highly recommended

I am not a native Philadelphian but I know about the«other» sandwich that is known to natives(because friends have told me through the years of living in Philly) — The Roast Pork Sandwich. Yes, I have had both DiNic’s and Tony Luke’s…both are good. The one I received from George’s was delicious. I had«Roast Pork Italian» with Broccoli Rabe and Provolone cheese. I was saving for dinner, but no such luck. I had to pull it out and eat while having my iced Americano. There are two George’s on 9th street. This location is further south on right side of street. It is small and they have 3tables outdoors, so, if you are shopping in Italian Market, maybe you can get a seat somewhere… I don’t eat these sandwiches on a regulra weekly basis, but, when I do pig out, I am glad to know where I can get a truly iconic sandwich. Employees were friendly.

Move over Dinic… and Tony Luke. There’s a new contender in my top 3 roast pork sandwich spots. George’s is a little hole-in-the-wall, luncheonette type of shop with all of 4 – 5 sparse tables to squeeze into. By the looks of it, there hasn’t been much, if any renovations, since it was opened 65+ years ago. Not to say it’s dirty. It’s just worn. But with it located in Italian Market, that’s part of the charm. One bite of the roast pork sandwich and all of that was forgotten. It ain’t pretty, and it ain’t frilly. It doesn’t need to be. The pork was so juicy and succulent. Flavorful without being overwhelming. Not heavy on the stomach. I haven’t tasted anything like it. The experience gave me a new appreciation for pork — the other white meat. Yeah yeah… why does it always have to be a color thing? That’s the thing. It isn’t. This sandwich transcends color and you’re just experiencing meat on a different level. The second time I went, I got it with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone — South Philly style. My mouth is watering as I reminisce… *slurp* The others who say that the staff isn’t friendly, I’d have to disagree. They kept asking if we were enjoying our meals. Within a few verbal volleys, the lady at the counter was giving me the full history… the secret recipe is being passed down through the family. I’d say this experience is priceless. But you can get this for less than $ 10! What’s not to love. It’s a true Italian Market/South Philly experience.

The place is a bit sketch, but worth a stop in. The people who work there are entertaining, and in the 4.5 minutes it takes you to order and receive your meal, you will have become bff’s with everyone there. If you want a no-frills, super tasty Roast pork sammie… this is your place.

Early 9th Street shoppers get their morning fortifications right here — cheap, hot and tasting great! And for you coffee lovers, just go for the large and six sugars and cream. It’s nothing fancy, but Starbucky’s can’t touch it!

I’m actually shocked that George’s Famous Roast Beef and Pork has only garnered two reviews in 3 years. It is a dynamite breakfast and lunch spot, and pretty darn cheap. In addition, others have commented about the lack of friendliness of the staff. I strongly disagree and have a hard time thinking of what they could do to be friendlier short of giving away their food! It’s located in the Italian Market at 9th and Carpenter, just south of Esposito’s. I heartily, strongly recommend the Hot Roast Pork(something obscene like 7 pounds of tender, savory, melt in your mouth chunks!), the Meatball Parm, and the Hot Roast Beef. Their Hoagies are also good and they have daily lunch specials(like a cheesburger, fries and a soda for $ 5.00). Pretty much the only thing that i *don’t* recommend are their french fries(they are shoestring and kind of flavorless). The number one thing about George’s is their breakfast sandwiches. They are delicious and cheap! These days, they run you $ 3.75. The other wonderful thing is that you can get stuff like 1 pancake as a side(only $ 1) and morning stalwarts like home fries($ 1.75), in addition to their awesome breakfast specials! My favorite special is 3 pancakes and 3 pieces of sausage/bacon for only $ 4.25! For those who are a little hungrier, you can get 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 pieces of bacon AND2 pieces of sausage for only $ 5.10!!! I cannot explain how George’s has escaped the notice of all the hipsters down here these days, but I am glad of it. I almost don’t want to write this for fear they will invade it now…

I just had a very large(read: belly busting) tuna hoagie from here today. I opted for a cold hoagie because it’s really hot today. So no roast pork or beef today, no thanks. As far as tuna hoagies go, it was good. You cannot beat the price here! Most hoagies /sandwiches(hot or cold) are under $ 5.00. Trust me, one is enough to feed a small family. Wow, good stuff. I’ll definitely be back for the PORK!
