Looking for a quick breakfast in between appointments. This place came up food looked good. Found a parking spot walk up to the door they are closed for remodeling. That’s nice but there’s no way of know that until it’s to late.

I ordered their Pilgrim hoagie. Fresh hand pulled turkey, homemade stuffing, cranberry on a long seeded role. It is rather excellent, but the stuffing is just too much bread. Next time I will order it without the stuffing. I highly recommend this place and as a matter of fact, I love buying a hoagie from First St steaks, then taking it over to The Yachtsman, which is a rather excellent tiki bar. Since the tiki bar doesn’t serve food, they encourage people to bring food from elsewhere.

Yum!!! I thought my sirloin cheesesteak was really delicious! The meat was not over cooked at all and made to order. The fries were also really tasty and covered in parm cheese and some spices. Loved them. I also loved how fresh they tasted. I was also really into the fact that they make their own wiz BUT because of this, it gets hard really fast so I wouldn’t order it with my fries again. That being said, it was great on my cheesesteak and the fries were great without the cheese so for the first time ever, I’m happy to skip cheese fries. :) All in all, I will definitely order from them again!

Just ordered for the first time and it was fantastic for delivery sandwiches. I can only imagine they’d be phenomenal when you order in. Sirloin cheese steak, pilgram sandwich, & cheese fries. Enough food to feed 3 – 4 people. I now have my new cheat meal! Well done! And they brought a complimentary brownie :-)

Amazing value, my cheesesteak is always loaded with meat, and as far as flavor, it’s better than Pat’s, Geno’s, Jim’s you name it. I will be back here for sure.

I ordered delivery off of grub hub. Took over an hour. On a Monday night. I ordered the sirloin cheesesteak and the first fries with whiz. The steak was room temperature, the meat mediocre, and the roll was bland. I ended up eating the meat out with the fork. The fries were cool, hard, and relatively stale tasting. The only the reason they have two stars is because when I called to check up on my order 50 minutes in, the man on the other line was extremely nice. The other reason for the two stars is because the whiz is actually pretty good. I would never get deliver from this place again.

This place is awesome! I ordered the seitan veggie steak and it was amazing. The best veggie cheesesteak I’ve had in Philadelphia. The seasoned fries are worth going for alone, especially paired with the homemade white wiz. Awesome atmosphere, very clean, welcoming, and fast service. Will definitely be going back!

I live down the street and like this place. My boyfriend and I have been there a few times and overall its a good sandwich or cheesesteak, with no frills, that is reasonable and quick. The service is pleasant and attitude free. In some philly institutions, if you want something out of the ordinary on your cheesesteak– like avocado– staff get bitchy. Here you can get whatever you want!

Stopped in for lunch, I ordered the filet tip steak, awesome steak, absolutely hit the spot, a 5 star sandwich. My daughter grabbed the chicken steak gave it a 4.75. Daughter number two went all in and ordered the Pilgrim, a 5 star. The Pilgrim was the best of all. I basically ate the filet tip all together and ate half of the Pilgrim. Fantastic food and experience, the service was spot on, I would definitely go back.

Had a Groupon and the Groupon did not list any exclusions or exceptions for ANYTHING on the menu so when I read the reveiws, I was looking forward to having the filet tip and the Pilgrim. According to Jenny T – she was able to get the filet tip so why would I be denied — «maybe I did not fit the profile». Anyway, instead of getting angry, I just chalked it up and said regular Cheesesteak with provolone, fried and raw onions, heavy ketchup and also a Pilgrim roll. I have had better cheesesteaks so on a scale of 1 — 10, maybe a 4, no onions(raw or fried) scant ketchup. However, the Pilgrim was pretty good. It could have more of the shredded turkey and less of the stuffing, but it was a good idea and it was pleasantly surprised. A no-no for me — the delivery guy came in, put money in the cash register, put a glove on and started making sandwiches. YOUFORGOT A STEP — ITSCALLEDWASHINGYOURHANDS. Given that this was my first impression, I was more dissappointed than pleased but hey, sometimes the Groupons are a HIT, other times they a MISS and PASS!!!

LIke another reviewer below, I also was not impressed with the taste of the cheesesteak and did not finish it and had stomach discomfort immediately. I then woke up in the middle of the night throwing up for hours and hours, unable to hold down any liquids or stomach meds(not even water or tums) unable to sleep or feel any relief with terrible stomach pains and severe diarrhea. The strain on my stomach and back from throwing up so much and using the bathroom is unbearable and I had to call out of work because I was so sick and not feeling any relief. This sounds exactly like food poisoning symptoms. I will NEVER eat here again and will suggest you avoid it too.

Great service, good prices and huge, delicious sandwiches. They don’t try to reinvent the wheel here but just crank out some top-notch hot and cold servings(definitely the best cheesesteak in the area and one of the best pastramis I’ve had in Philadelphia) and provide impeccable customer service. Love the spanish fries too. Every time I’ve left happy and will be back again and again. Edit: just realized this is my first Unilocal review. 1st St Steaks is that good!

Filet tip steak sandwich was DELICIOUS! Tried this place only because of a Groupon that I bought but I will definitely be visiting again. The filet was tender and juicy, tasted extremely fresh. My fiancé got the filet tip w/American cheese and I got the Filet tip w/whiz, mushrooms, fried onions and hot peppers on the side. What can I say, I like all the extras. The mushrooms were fresh, not like other steak shops where they come right out of a can and the white whiz is homemade on premises. Met one of the owners and he was super friendly. Gave us a taste of his turkey that is put on his Pilgrim Sandwich which has fresh turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy. That will be my next adventure for sure. Great job guys and good luck!!! You definitely have us as repeats.

I was excited to try this place out. I got the sirloin cheese steak(fried onion and white wiz) and first Street fries(white wiz). The cheesesteak was ok nothing special but had a weird taste so I wasn’t sure till I ate the soggy fries(overpowered by the seasoning) with the sauce. White wiz sauce didn’t even taste like cheese or a anything. Had a weird after taste. I stop eating it and threw it away. From here on it went down hill. Around 3 am in the morning my stomach was killing me. I had to vomit couple times and I thought I could work in a few… No it got worst while I was at. Thankfully I took some medicine and was sent home. I was pretty much food poison by their white wiz sauce. I am still sick and have diarrhea for the past 2 days. I would stay away just in case you don’t want to end up like me.

Everyone who works here is great. Very attentive and genuinely interested in getting to know their customers, not to mention being a positive addition to the neighborhood. Fantastic food and friendly service right at the girard el stop. Open for weekday breakfast sandwiches(look delicious but I’ve never had time to stop) and then lunch and dinner everyday. I think they’d develop more of a following if they opened late night on weekends to serve the nightlife crowd. That might be a good way to get more people interested. Overall, it’s a really well executed concept in a location that seems perfect for freshly made sandwiches. Hoping that the neighborhood will increasingly come out to support them.

Okay, I just had a top 5 customer service experience in my four years living in Philly. I’ve passed by this place a lot the last couple weeks and finally went in tonight with five friends to try it out. We all ordered, but mine didn’t come out. Everyone was so friendly, so I wasn’t too upset, but when five minutes passed and nothing further happened, I began to feel agitated. Jason, one of the cooks, came over w/a complimentary plate of fries, explaining that my order got messed up and they had to start over. Jason gave me my cheesesteak five minutes thereafter, and it was delicious. Moreover, when the rush was over, he gave me a whole additional cheesesteak which he explained was the one they messed up(had cheese whiz on when I ordered provolone). Moreover, he offered my friends more fries. My friends thought the cheesesteaks were slightly above average, but we all felt that was because they ordered a more traditional hoagie, when that’s not what they’re trying to compete in. Mine was delicious but I went less traditional and took advantage of the toppings and sauces they offered. Highly recommend — service was incredible as was the quality and freshness of all the ingredients.

This place is fantastic! The atmosphere is great, service funny and charming and the sandwich was AMAZING. I had the filet tip(you gotta try it) with homemade(in a pot!) wiz. Jason threw some broccoli, onions and spinach in there for me along with some(SEASONED!!!) fries. The fries were the best. I’ll be getting those every time. I also tried the house made cookie, which was very impressive. My whole experience was fantastic, from start to finish. This is a new place and I hope you’ll support them and keep them alive.
