Considering it’s a minute walk, my roommates and I eat here a lot. Pizza is good and the roommates like their wraps(veggie, Caesar, and buffalo in particular). The owner is usually very friendly but understandably he can get in his moods if something goes wrong. The rest of the employees are always nice. I wouldn’t get hoagies because I see them handle money without washing hands or changing gloves and then continue preparing them. Overall I like this place and will continue going as long as I live in this area.

Cheap and skimpy portions equal crappier pizza. Do not get this pizza unless you want to overpay for an ordinary plain pizza. I don’t care how many football players he gets to help him peddle his crappy pizza. It just sucks

The pizza was good but I did not care for the manager who shoveled out by moving everything in front of us out of our way I spent over $ 200 on pizza and wine and she was rude rude rude because apparently we stayed too long

Staff is always welcome and friendly, and the cheese slices are delicious; they have an excellent crust and are large. I live in the neighborhood and this is the spot I go to when I’m looking for a slice or two.

I came from Brooklyn for this Flounder hoagie(and my family) … I’ll travel hours, days, months, years for this delicious creation.

This place is great. I love their pizzas. The old owner took back control of this place in 2010, and it’s been great ever since. I always pickup my own delivery and the staff and owner are kind and helpful.

Faster delivery this time around, but, they consistently forget things(condiments, cups, parts of the order). It gets annoying.

still loving this place. special shout out to the delivery dude carlos, he is always there with a smile and one of the reasons for our repeat business. since my last review in 2010 i have also had their chocolate milkshakes(xtra thick and def worth the $ 4), vegetarian pizza is fresh and full of deliciousness, chicken salad is hugeeeeeeee. oh, and they have cheese whiz for your steak or fries. or whatever else you want to put it on. NICE. i still havent been to the actual storefront, but they serve up some great delivery. the girl who answerrs the phone is quite pleasant and remembers us at my work — always appreciated to feel remembered! give it a try folks.

This is my favorite pizza shop in Philadelphia. This is not Rustíca. This is not the pizzeria at the Urban Outfitters cafeteria. You will not get a highly styled ultra-thin crust slice covered with a light sprinkle of cheese, roasted brocolini and kalamata olives for $ 5 a slice. If that’s what you want you will not like this. Some would argue if this is what you think of when you think of pizza you barely like pizza at all. To love pizza is to savor it in all its many splendid forms: from Sicilian to deep-dish, thin crust, Greek Style, Philly Style, New York Style, Cafeteria style; from frozen all the way to the designer pies of Rustica here in Philly. There are hundreds of pizza joints in the city. Most are precisely mediocre while most slide deeply into awful in exactly the same way: Thin flavorless crust with an equally flavorless sauce, or worse, an overly sweet sauce topped with a moderate amount of greasy cheese-like food melted over top. I understand, I’ve eaten it too. At El Greco the pizza is served thick and juicy and hot. Everything about this pizza is thick. It’s like sex. It’s like an amazing booty. Warm and curvy and soft and delicious. The sauce is robust without being sweet and the mouthwatering cheese generously melted over every tasty inch. Everything about this pie is curvy and juicy. I like mine with a little garlic and lots of hot pepper flakes. It’s my favorite guilty pleasure pizza spot in the city. I will say that on occasion the pizza leans toward the soft and underdone. I ask for my pies to be well done to avoid a slice flopping in half across its horizontal center before I get a chance to fold it at the crust. I’d recommend doing the same. Take out only. They are, as last I checked, cash only. 2 pies for $ 20 special. Enjoy!

El Greco is a neighborhood shop, and it’s just a few blocks from my workshop. I stop by every once in a while, and it’s an experience. Today, as usual, there were a bunch of people inside. Three behind the small(but tall) counter, a driver or two outside, and three or four customers in the long, narrow area inside. I order two slices, which are put in a box.(A bit of a downer for me — what, they don’t want me eating in front of the shop? Put it on a plate, please…) I go outside and stand by my bike and eat them — warm, gooey, and very sweet. The cheese is thick and chewy, the crust is soft and light, and the sauce is sugary and squirmy. The slices are floppy — they fold, and don’t crease — and drip red-orange oil as I squeeze the fluffy crust to keep the whole package together. The first bite requires me to hold the crust side above the rest of the slice, so that it doesn’t unfold and go limp. Eating the slices produces a texture that resembles, almost, mollusks. As I stand there eating, I observe the scene. A tall, gaunt man sits on the stoop, then stands and mills around the storefront, smoking a cigarette. Three customers who came out of the shop just as I was entering sit on a stoop next door eating their slices and talking. The traffic on 2nd St. whizzes by, passing the small community at Jefferson — the slice shop, an auto tag store and a barbershop. I like El Greco in a way. It’s not exactly gourmet, but talking about the quality of the food misses the point of the business. It isn’t quality — some might go so far to argue that it’s hardly pizza. Either way, it’s food, it’s part of a neighborhood. And sometimes that’s all you need.
