I saw Dr. Thunder a few places in the city– one in West Philly at a local hang out called Dahlak, then again in Fishtown at a fab divy place called The El Bar. He is fun and hysterical, but professional at the same time– you know what I mean? He’s totally fair about who sings when and doesnt just let his friends jump the line. He has costumes and stuff to liven the crowd, and the crowd at El Bar were totally in to it. Best of all his song book is HUGE. I found songs by some of my faves(Depeche Mode, Morrissey, The Cure) that I’ve never seen at any other karaōke night. Anyway, when my boss at the office asked me if i knew of a good karaōke kj to hire for our Xmas party I was thrilled at the chance to get Dr. Thunder! I’m not sure of the price, but my boss is a tightwad so it couldn’t have been too much. He brought all the equipment, plus the costumes and everything. We all had such a great time, but seeing your uptight coworkers drunk singing«Sweet Caroline»… how can you not have fun? Anyway, totally recommend going to this guy’s nights!

Doctor Thunder Karaōke is hands down the best karaōke in Philadelphia. In fact, he was VOTED as such in Philly Magazine two years in a row! For six years he and his various other hosts(notably Pirate Pebbles) have hosted in venues across the city, including but not limited to Dahlak, Headhouse, El Bar, Rotten Ralph’s, Nut Hut, The Bar(n), Millcreek, Brown St. Pub… the rotation is ever changing but Dahlak seems to be the location that has lasted since the beginning! There’s a lot that sets Doc apart from other hosts. Whether it’s his giant bags of costumes for everyone to wear, or the fact that at midnight he does a striptease that finds him left in ankle socks, booty shorts and a cape, there’s no comparing Doctor Thunder to anyone else!

Yas yas yasss darling! If you have a party with Dr. Thunder and do not have a great time, check your pulse! Dr. Thunder was the DJ at my surprise party and I have been to a few of his standing events throughout the city. I always have an amazing time. The Doc. is an absolute riot and is happy to sing a few songs to help get the crowd going. You have not lived until a DJ in hot pants has sung Lil Mama’s Lipgloss to you. Seriously. Also, he is quite versatile. He’s a white guy, but had no problem satisfying the needs of my «urban» crowd for my birthday. I would recommend him for adult events, but he’d probably be just as much fun at a bar mitzvah. An easy 5 stars.
