Conveniently located in the Ben City supermarket strip, this is my go-to spot for delicious and cheap banh mis. They have at least five varieties including the special, pork with 2 eggs and fried tofu. The toasted french bread is what really sets this place apart. They have a full menu of Vietnamese dishes if you’re looking for something else. The ladies that work there have limited English so you have to be patient but they always figure it out and make it work!

Three large Vietnamese hoagies for $ 12. And strong Vietnamese iced coffee made in a flash. As soon as you walk in, you can tell this is a popular local spot. And as a non-Vietnamese person, it can feel slightly intimidating, especially since their menus weren’t clearly visible, but since I knew what I wanted, it wasn’t a problem. Everything was delicious.

I came here and order a grilled chicken banh mi because I heard they make their own bread. The bread was superb and the veggies was pretty fresh, but my grill chicken was awful! I assume it was grilled chicken because that’s what I ask for, but honestly, it don’t even look like chicken. The chicken was cold and the hoagie itself had NO flavor or anything! This will be my first and last time at this place.

Found a closer place for fresh chicken phở! My daughter and I enjoyed this place so much we came back the next week. This time I tried the combination banh mi and goat curry. The banh mi was very good with crispy French bread. Goat curry was ok would have enjoyed it with chicken more. The chicken phở came with the salt and pepper and lime dip, one of my faves! Will return real soon!

I bought 2 banh mi… I got banh mi thit nuong and thit nguoi… it was verrrry good. I just wished the baguette was not as crusty… I hate having the baguette toasted. I hate the crumbs. Overall the banh mi were good… alittle bit more meat wouldnt hurt though… Bubble teas are good as well. my fav is taro bubble tea

The best spot for dry Phnom Penh noodles! The rice dishes, rice porridge, vermicilli dishes are all spectacular too!

Had to try the Banh Mi based on other Unilocalers … sorry, but Café Saigon, for me, wins out by a long shot ! The baguette was too crusty, not enough grilled pork and definitely not enough of the special mayo that is typically used. I will say this: the owner is a guy who formerly had a fantastic corner spot in the little strip mall at Tabor and Adams(that was my go-to place for Phở Ga) and I was heart broken when it closed. Seeing him tonight, I’ll go back here to try the Phở Ga ! It was a very clean place and bright atmosphere. I tried their green veggie drink and it was really good. Lastly: if you are a fan of quirky Asian TV, then this is your place! A bizarre movie with subtitles was on involving a young guy who clearly was about 15 yrs old and they gave him a fake mustache ! He and his wife, who looked European, had a daughter with cerebral palsy. In between, there was a commercial for, I kid you not, an herbal supplement that appeared to be for women to improve their sex drive and/or lubrication! That truly made it worth the trip !

Loved the tofu banh mi; the best one I’ve had and only $ 3.They have a big selection of drinks and desserts. I got the sticky rice w/banana and coconut cream and a pudding of taro, nuts, beans and tapioca. Both were amazing! and $ 2 a piece. Large selection of pre– made goodies packaged and ready to go. Items in steam table looked good– what were they? Gonna ask next time. Young Vietnamese girls that work here do speak English and are helpful with any questions you may have. Located on a Vietnamese shopping plaza anchored by Ben City Asian supermarket less than a half mile north of Adams Ave & Roosevelt Blvd. Check this place out! Got to frequent this place more often to try other things; but it’s gonna be hard to top the tofu hoagie and desserts I got.

Café Nhu Quynh is now my second favorite go-to spot for banh mi in northeast Philly. This eatery is a welcome addition to the Cho Ben Thanh shopping center. They serve Vietnamese cuisine, if the name wasn’t hint enough, or the music videos playing on the flat screens, or by the many signs not in English[1]. Whether you dine there or get take out, something’s bound to grab your attention. Behind the counter are many pre-cooked dishes to buy. A constant stream of customers filed in, which was good(for business, certainly) and bad(for us, as it was drafty and we were sitting by the door). Nhu Quynh has a variety of banh mi, including meatballs, barbecue pork, tofu, special combination(read: cold cuts), and an appetizingly mysterious breakfast-esque egg and pork roll. I went for the combination($ 2.50) and barbecue pork($ 3.00), and made short work them both with the help of tea and a coconut drink($ 2.50). The bread(baked in-house) was satisfyingly crunchy. No pâté, but the amount and quality of their filling was decent. Nhu Quynh didn’t take the crown from Café Saigon(my longtime favorite), but they didn’t disappoint. Want to try them for yourself? They’re open every day of the week, from 7:30AM to 8:00PM. [1] Several signs read: «Xin Qu’y kha’ch vui lo\ng kho^ng hu’t tho’^c trong tie^*m. Cha^n tha\nh ca? m o’n.» with no translation nearby. My lifeline enlightened me, saying they just said«no smoking».
