Ultimately, it’s all about the haircut. Duke’s abilities are as good as it gets.

I finally got my husband to change barbers and try Blokes and what a great cut he got! This place was so cool, with a classic old– time feel. Everyone there was friendly and made us feel like we were part of the family. It’s sort of a place where folks might want to hang out and chat. My husband loves his cut, but was really impressed with the offer of a beer before sitting in the chair. We are so happy that Blokes is located near my dad so we can visit and get cuts in the same trip.

Best barber I’ve met. The place is big, clean, and inviting. I was welcomed in, an employee took my jacket, and Duke came out right on time and set me up in his chair. I had a hair cut, straight razor shave, and beard trim/​shape. Every step of the way, Duke was precise and meticulous. This was by far the longest barbershop visit I’ve ever had, and I was thankful for the amount of time he put in. I was groomed in multiple steps using progressively finer tools, finishing with a fine scissors detail under a microscope around all the edges. I didn’t really know what I wanted, just some sort of change, and Duke promptly came up with some great ideas and went to work. I was treated with a hot towel, fine oils, hot lather, straight razor, electric trimmer, more oils, 587 kinds of scissors, and uncountable hilarious stories of a younger Duke’s misadventures. Price is not cheap, but certainly not outrageous, and quite reasonable for the quality of service. I was far from disappointed, and I will be back.

I always see Lauren, she takes the time to make sure your service is the best it can possibly be every time. There are also a ton of cool gent themed items for sale here too, from hats to socks to shaving kits. Pop a record on the jukebox, sip a beer and prepare for a solid experience at Blokes.

I wanted to give this place 2.5 stars but I felt they are too expensive and also I was underwhelmed by the whole experience.

2. Barber was skilled and the cut and trim stood out
Cons:
1. Too expensive
2. Not a welcoming atmosphere
3. Expected better services — most barbers really do offer more services for a lower price
4. Did not really honor my requests but sometimes barbers do that. Still annoying.

Well, finally found my barber and shop. Been bouncing around a bit while trying to find a place to go in the City other than my normal burbs cut when working. This new shop is sweet, really beautifully built. A lot of quality men’s items for sale, (purchased a cologne while there). Lauren cut my hair and did a superior meticulous job. Best hair cut I have had in many years. I will certainly be back. Really glad they opened!

Blown away from the moment Duke shook my hand outside at the door. I had been going to Duke for a while now, and was sort of lost till I found his new shop. The environment… sophisticated, mature, relaxed… No attitudes here. Duke is always on point with great conversation, suggestions on style, and the best shave i’ve ever had. There are also great hats and other items for purchase… really really great hats. The staff all really attentive, inviting, friendly… I spent an hour after my cut talking with the staff and strumming a few guitars. I booked a standing appointment with Duke straight away for the rest of the year. Worth every penny! These are good people.

I used to make the trip from Roxborough to a Barber Shop in NoLibs just to make sure that Duke cut my hair because of how many compliments I got after a cut. We moved to Elkins Park this year, which made it harder to make the trip for a cut. After a few bad cuts around my neighborhood I called the other place to find that Duke left. I was sad to find out that he left that place but very happy to find out that he is now at Blokes (which I found through Unilocal). Dukes schedule was full, but Lauren (?) filled in and was terrific! Everyone at the shop are great! Highly recommended! If you know the value of a good Barber and a good Bartender in a man’s life, consider this place as solving half the equation!

I’ve had my hair cut by Duke, Lauren, and Dana and I can say these three are truly talented! Each one really listens to what you want and gives you exactly what you’re looking for. Everyone that works a Blokes is awesome! Highly recommend here if you’re in Philly!

Highly recommended! Duke is a barber’s barber. Fantastic cut, great style sense and a sublime conversationalist.

I have been going to Duke since I moved to Philadelphia from New York about 4 years ago. He is by far the best barber I have come across any where. The new shop is beautiful, the music is great, the conversations even better. Do yourself a favor and get yourself an appointment, you will be hooked. (BTW, His beard work is superior)

I was in Philadelphia for a business meeting and needed a trim. I was referred to Blokes and am very happy that I followed that suggestion. Duke took time to find out what I wanted and executed it masterfully! I only wish Blokes was in Boston, but it will definitely be on my go-​to list whenever I’m in Philly. Beautiful shop and friendly folks! (Great selection of grooming accessories and interesting selection of hats!)

I’ve been going to Duke for a few years now, so great to see him have his own shop. Best fades in the city. I won’t even stray and go to another barber at this point, he does it right every time.

Just visited Blokes for the first time. Lauren cut my hair and did a great job. She really got the little details that my previous barber always missed.
I really loved the environment at Blokes. Tons of great men’s accessories like hats, skin care products and other odds and ends. The juke box is a perfect touch to add to the classics English barber shop feel.

I’ve been going to Duke Dunne for haircuts, beardtrims and facials for years now. Extremely precise and always professional and knowledgeable. From the classic styles to the popular trends. With decades of experience under his belt and the accreditation of being a Master Barber you will never be disappointed. Instead, extremely impressed. Highly recommend Blokes Barber Shop and Gentleman’s Emporium. I will never stop going. If he moved across seas, I just may have to relocate!

Had my haircut at Blokes about a Week a go and WOW what an experience. Amazing service, amazing décor, love their 50s style jukebox! The staff are very knowledgeable & professional, try it you won’t be disappointed
