In connection with a social gathering at our home, we recently had a butter cookie taste test and Feasterville tied for first place. The competition included butter cookies from Rilling’s, Leonardo’s, Desserts by Design, Swiss Haus Bakery. Chosen as for the test was the flower-shaped butter cookie with the chocolate center, which all of the bakeries offer. First place honors went to Feasterville, whose cookie is very delicate and nearly disintegrates on the tongue(like any great shortbread). Note that one has to carefully transport Feasterville’s cookies because they easily crumble in transit. The chocolate center was a bit sweet and hard. First place honors also went to Rilling’s for its cookie’s relatively soft crumb and clear butter flavor. Our quibble was that the center dollop of chocolate was a bit sweet and hard, but overall it was a good cookie. Both Feasterville and Rilling’s could elevate these cookies to epic status by replacing the chocolate frosting with a bittersweet ganache. Second place went to Swiss Haus Bakery, whose butter cookies are a perennial household favorite. The Swiss Haus version is much firmer than either than Feasterville’s or Rilling’s and it is less sweet. To its credit, the Swiss Haus cookie’s chocolate center is neither as sweet nor as hard as the first place bakeries’ versions. Swiss Haus’s cookies are sufficiently hearty to transport with little breakage. Desserts by Design had a credible entry, which earned them third place. The cookie had a delicate crumb but lacked any butter flavor. Where these cookies failed was an unattractive milk-chocolate-looking center that was not a consistent color throughout and was irregularly shaped. It also was far too sweet and hard. Much to our chagrin, Leonardo’s version ended up in fourth place. While Leonardo’s makes exquisite rustic breads and phenomenal cannoli, its butter cookies are just too hard and lack any butter flavor.

I ordered a Baptism sheet cake and was very specific about just white with silver. My husband pick up the cake(had I been there I would have left the cake). The cake was surrounded by gray(not silver) and rosary beads in orange(baker said they were gold) and the May God bless you with the names in BLACK. This was a Halloween Baptism cake. I will never go there again. the cake looked bad and tasted stale. My husband like the cream doughnuts but I will never go there again… a waste of $ 113.00.

Lovely little bakery. The gentleman who helped me, not sure if he was the owner, was just delightful. He was friendly and helpful. I was looking for Sunday breakfast treats and the danish I purchased were delicious and a big hit with my family. Next visit and there will be a next visit I will definitely try the cream doughnuts. You can never have access to enough great bakeries. Thank you Unilocalers!

Sketchley’s Bakery has been here for a long time though I’ve never grown tired of their pastries. Their rolls, cookies and cakes all have a distinctive taste to them– its a pleasant tasting buttery taste. I still can’t get over how unbelievably good the cookies are. The doughnuts, also very tasty, are only fifty cents apiece. Everything they sell seems under-priced, which typically persuades me to buy more and more. Presently the bakery’s original owner has retired and for a short while the store had closed. Much to my delight another bakery took its place, the ‘Feasterville Family Bakery.’ Even more uplifting is the fact that the previous owner has shared his recipes with these new owners, ensuring that the baked goods I’ve come to love will continue to be available.

If I want to score points in my house, I pick up the cream doughnuts from here. My husband says they make the best. I brought a cookie tray into work, everyone loved them. Very sweet staff!
