When you own and operate an old motel in the middle of West Virginia, where the closest competitor is numerous miles away, you can be lazy and not give a damn about your guests and property or choose to invest money and time to provide guests with a decent experience. The former is true of this motel. A lack of poor planning our part, resulted in us choosing to stay at this Quality Inn property during a recent road trip from Pittsburgh to Charlotte. We paid $ 115(includes taxes) for a double room(#254) on a Friday evening. Upon check-in, we received a nearly illegible map of the property indicating which building our room was located. In all seriousness, the front desk must copy and recopy copies of the map over and over again. Please stop doing this. Once we found our room, we were greeted by a large cobweb and spider hanging out near the entryway. We slowly entered to a hot, humid, and stuffy room. We quickly turned the AC on to clear out the stagnant air. The room was filled with outdated furniture and linens, sitting atop a very noticeable dirty carpet. The pillows are half the size of a traditional pillow. The bath tub was leaking water. We later learned that it is a rule of the hotel to leave the toilet seat up to indicate that it had been cleaned. While the seat was left up, the toilet had visible human waste on the inside. There was a huge strand of hair in the sink. We also found a huge gray hair underneath one of the pillows in the bed. We also found that in the case of an emergency, leaving the room quickly would have been an issue as the safety latch would get in the way when opening the door. To exit, we had to hold the latch against the wall and pull open the door. I contacted the front desk, notified the hotel clerk of the issues, but was not offered another room. Given it was late, we sucked it up and slept decently in the bed. The significant other checked out the continental breakfast the next morning. He only returned with a half cup of what we both believed might have been coffee, although the stench was repulsive. I stopped in at the front desk before departing, hoping to speak with a manager, but she wasn’t to arrive until closer to 10A. The front desk agent, a young gentleman, was very friendly and considerate(basically the only good thing at the hotel). I asked for a return phone call from the manager, but ended up calling several hours later and spoke with her. She was very friendly and understanding, although quick to call out that no house keepers have long gray hair. But, honestly, I didn’t care. There is a reasonable expectation that a room is going to be clean. I asked for a full refund, but she noted that she’d rather me speak with the hotel owner when he returned on Monday. I agreed to that, but noted I’d call on Tuesday since I was travelling. I also contacted shortly before speaking with the manager. They opened a case regarding the situation, but noted that they would have to speak to the hotel before issuing a refund. Fast forward two days. I received a voicemail from the manager noting that she spoke to the motel owner and he agreed to offer a full refund. I am very appreciative of the refund, but it was the right thing to do. I will not return to this motel and would not recommend it to any other future guest.

Very good for a hotel in this class and would stay again. The queen beds were comfy with four pillows on each bed which was nice. No major frills and no workout room any longer that we did see listed on some literature, but overall great value for a motel with breakfast included. Breakfast area was kept very clean and well stocked too. Note that this hotel does allow dogs so we were woken a few times by barking/whining dogs in the room near ours a few of the early mornings, but was not bothersome enough to need to call the front desk.

We were in the area to see the New River Bridge over Labor Day weekend. This turned out to be a good place to stay if you are not into all the frills. The rooms and beds were clean. There is a large pool, guest laundry, a bar and grill and gift shop. It looks like an older motel with a lot of rooms, but they were booked full for this weekend. A free breakfast is served in the gift shop, but it was very crowded, so we had to pass. We did eat at the restaurant the night before and got great food and service. We would stay here again.

This is not a bad place, considering it’s a motel. This is a 4-star MOTEL. This was my first experience at a motel, and I was really hesitant when we drove up– it was a row of two-story rooms that made the outline of a square, with a swimming pool+hot tub and reception house in the middle. There were also tennis courts that are available as well. The reception ladies were really nice, and they informed us of a free continental breakfast.(Yaaaaay! That made me warm up to this place a bit) Our room was facing the highway; and although the walls were thin, it didn’t bother us when we were sleeping. We also had a whole bus load of college girls that were roomed all over the place, which was really aggravating. BUT, contrary to our belief, they didn’t bother us that much(or the walls were pretty soundproof to the other rooms) When we settled in our rooms(2 queen sized beds, a bathroom and shower, a tv, a safe, and a fridge) we received a call from the reception desk asking if we were doing fine. Dawwhhh! That was so considerate of them(: The breakfast was a typical hotel breakfast, and it was located in their gift shop next to «Elliott’s Bar and Grille». We didn’t eat there, and the front resembled a dive bar, and it had stickers of WV university all over it. We wouldn’t mind staying there again, and we probably will!

Not many places to choose from in this area so we gave this place a try. The front desk people were very friendly and helpful. This is a no frills blue collar type of place. The rooms are dated but clean. A little pricey for what it is but not outrageous.

Why… oh why… was everything«DAMP» with moisture in this room??? PROS: The Staff was very friendly and the morning breakfast was great! thou CONS: Both beds had sheets that were wet or damp has if they were not left in the hotel dryer long enough or maybe the room just retained that much moisture! LOL(would explain the damp towels too!)
