I feel terrible about giving a 1-star review, but I’m NOT impressed at all. There’s nothing giant about this sub. Firstly, the steak hoagie(steak & cheese, basically) was $ 7.50, and had literally $ 1 worth of meat on it(see the picture I uploaded). The sandwich came out so fast that I honestly think it was leftover, pre-cooked meat from earlier. The meat tasted weird and was dry, the dressing had no flavor and the only redeeming quality of the sub was the bread. It was just like Jimmy John’s bread — a slightly crisp crust and soft in the middle. The portion you see in the picture I attached was left uneaten; I just threw it away because it tasted weird and I got a little grossed out. All told, for a sandwich and a pop I paid just under $ 10. Not worth it. I was pretty devastated. I’m a cheesesteak/steak & cheese LOVER and was really hoping to have a good sandwich near my new workplace. There were a few folks in there who were obviously regulars as the employees knew them by name; I totally love that, but sadly I will not be a new regular.

I can’t believe that it took me so long to finally check this place out! I finally went in last autumn and have been back at least once every couple of weeks since. Yes, the sandwiches are a bit smaller than what other places offer but when you get potato salad or soup to go with it, it’s the perfect meal. I tried the Italian sub on my first trip and haven’t been tempted to try anything else since. If you have the chance, I definitely recommend checking this place out. It’s great to see a little piece of history alive and well in Farmington. They’ve stood the test of time for a reason. Check them out.

What a great find this was! Dan’s sub shop has fantastic subs. Homemade bread in the store and such fresh ingredients. These subs are big, and all but one of us ate the whole things — we skipped the chips to have more room. Apparently this has been a staple for the area since the mid 60s based on the signs inside. One of us had the Italian sub, which was great. Two of us had the Steak Hoagie — grilled steak with onions, lettuce, tomato, oregano, cheese, and added banana peppers and grilled mushrooms per the suggestion from the owner. Fabulous! So fresh tasting. Also had the soup of the day which was a navy bean with ham. This was probably the best I have had as well. Dan’s sells spiral cut hams and they use the ham bones to make the soup. Really good!!! Haven’t had the spiral cut ham, but the sign in the restaurant says their hams won a best taste award for Detroit. Something we will come back to try ourselves. If you want a great sandwich, go. Friendly service. We will be back.

I’m one of those sandwich guys and eat at those places at least once a week then make mine at home all weekend and I can tell you they don’t get any better than these period. The steak and cheese and mushroom is perfectly done ribeye with fresh veggies it stands as the number 1 followed closely by the Italian. The bread is the secret weapon it puts the chain places to shame it melts in your mouth and the secret dressing they pour on is even better. This is an old school just plain good food joint and the folks that run it are really nice I’m proud to call myself one of their regulars.

I’ve been coming here since the 70’s. It is a favorite of mine and my family. Very simple but delicious sandwich, best bread of any sub joint anywhere. This is not rocket science just a very good simple sub, prepared quickly and not expensive.

Decent sub sandwich and always smells good. Tasty bread to boot. «Anyone“coming here looking for exquisite culinary experience is just laughable. It’s a old style sub shop not a foodie hang out lol. Have had better and worse It is what it is a fast food sandwich place. No chefs working here btw ha. Ladies that work there are nice enough and make small talk while your waiting. Maybe the alcoholics should stick to the«liquor store» down the road.

Once in a while find a diamond in the rough. This one of these places! The sub bread is the best! Bake on location in their pizza ovens! All there food is very fresh! I would recommend this to anyone who wants a high quality sub. After 49 years of business, they must have done something right. I only rated them 4 stars due to aged décor, and protein portion size.

Really want to like the place, but unfortunately the combination of underwhelming food and bad service means I won’t go here anymore. The women working there act like they’re doing you a favor by serving you food they obviously don’t care about. They should do everyone else a favor and move over to allow someone with some passion for the business take over. Subs are relatively thin, with basic deli meats and standard sub bread. Nothing at all special about them. If you really enjoy waiting for twenty plus minutes under the glare of angry old women for something you could make in half the time for half the cost at home, then you’re a masochist and would love Dan’s. For the rest of us, there are far better options out there. Heck, the liquor store«Antonio’s» right near Dan’s has better food, and the people there are actually friendly!

It never ceases to amaze me how the«average» diner HASNOCLUE what good food is! Proof hot and ready cardboard pizzas fly of the shelves at that one place, you know. It’s not only laughable, but, down right insane that people think this one trick pony is a sub shop. The service is very slow… and when I say slow I mean SLOW! The attitude by the old unprofessional sloppy ladies there is such a turn off. Have been in this dump five times and refuse to give my money to a place that hasn’t a clue, sell spiral ham, and let that be it. If you want a good sandwich go to a place that sells good sandwiches. Man when will Farmington have a better food scene… never? with the average consumer I’ve seen around raving about average food? It’s hurts me as a true foodie.

I wish I could give it 2.5 stars. Neither good nor bad dans subs just fell flat of anything worth craving. I had the turkey sub which was underwhelming tasted much like something you’d pack for lunch from home with limited things in your fridge. Maybe if it were less than 9 $ for a drink and sub for lunch I would have been happier with what I was eating but for what it costs I can’t see myself being back. Also cash only… So I had to go to the bank next door for cash which cost an extra $ 3.

I really wanted to like this place. I walked in all excited to try a new place out since I was close by this evening. Using my trusty Unilocal app I found Dan’s. I walk in hoping for a great sub. There was one woman working. She was making a grilled sub for the only other customer inside. I waited. I waited. I waited. I … well you get the drift. I understand that if you’re the only one working you’ve got to make the order yourself. No problem. As I waited, and waited, I was at least entertained by the only other customer in the place. She proceeded to clean out her purse at the front counter, including counting several dozen coins. Wait a little more, I said. The woman working behind the counter never even looked up to acknowledge I was there. No «I’ll be right with you.» No «Just one minute.» No «It’ll just be another minute.» Nothing. I guess she was in her own zone. It was no surprise to me, then, that she never looked up to watch me walk out the door.

Dan’s Giant Submarine are great. The bread is fresh made and all of the ingredients are fresh. They put some kind of seasoning on the sandwich its fresh herbs and italian blend are too die for. Great prices also :)

Dan’s is a great local sub shop that I have visited since I was a child. My favorite menu item is their Italian sub with extra dressing and herbs. The bread is delicious and baked in-house for extra freshness. Their menu isn’t too big, but that’s ok because everything is fresh and yummy. Another tasty item they have are their bean and split pea soups. They are fresh made in house and never taste old. I’m not a huge fan of their tuna, but that is just a personal taste, nothing against them or their recipe, because it is fresh and definitely not watery. The least desirable item in the whole shop has to be their fountain beverages. They are too syrupy for me and just not that bubbly. I generally don’t dine in, just so I can get a bottled pop to enjoy with my meal. All in all, this is a great local place for delicious, fresh subs with no «flavors of the month» or other gimmicks. Prices are standard for sandwiches, but the quality is definitely above the standard.

Great home-baked sub bread. A bit pricey, but IMO worth it except for, the hamburger sub because the meat in that one is grisly.

I’ve tried Dan’s twice. The first time I got the steak and cheese and today I got the turkey grilled. I wasn’t impressed the first time but I thought I should try it again since it is so highly rated. I wasn’t impressed again. There isn’t much meat, the bread is rather chewy, it is kinda pricey for what you get and they charge $.50 for refills which I think is ridiculous since I paid 1.50 for a 20oz cup they filled with mostly ice. The place is really clean though and the ladies are friendly. Just not worth the stop in my opinion. Honestly, I’m not even a big Jimmy john’s fan but I’d much rather go there. Cheaper, and tastes better.

Dan’s Sub Shop is the best around in Farmington! I especially enjoy their steak subs(with lots of pepperchinis), their Italian sub, and their Ham sub. Really though, anything you get from Dan’s is going to be really good, period end of story. Dan’s also does spirial hams, and those are really good too. Anytime I’ve needed a spirial ham, this is where I’ve gone.

This is a great little place. When I was there for the first time I ordered an Italian sub, and I have to admit I never had a sub that was that good. Excellent ingredients. This is definitely the best sub shop around.

AMAZING bread! My favorite sub shoppe period. I’ve been eating here and ordering take-out for about 12 years and it’s always great. I always order at least 1 Philly Cheesesteak and maybe a second, or maybe the Spiral Ham Grinder. The Pepper Steak is also fabulous. Note: They aren’t the largest subs you’ll find around but they are made with quality ingredients! You’re gonna wanna order at least two sandwiches for yourself(whichever you fancy) if you’re truly hungry because«once it hits your lips» they’re so good. Anyways, back to the headliner — their Philly, not a true Philly by any means but maybe my favorite sandwich anywhere. Let’s start with the roll. It’s homemade, slightly bubbled and lightly crisp on the outside and perfect and pillowy on the inside. When you walk in the door the bread is going to be the first thing that you smell and automatically you’ll be more hungry than you were when you arrived. The meat, I believe, is sirloin cooked on a flattop by one of the lovely ladies that runs the show. They cook the meat and the onions together and then sprinkle on this heavenly spice blend that I’m pretty sure is a secret. All I can identify is the thyme and oregano but it makes the Philly a Dan’s Philly. The cheese is American(I’m pretty sure) and it doesn’t melt completely so while you’re eating you may get an unmelted corner of cheese that’s extra yummy with the meat and the bread. They wrap it in a sheet of paper and slide it into a sub bag and there you have it. If you haven’t been here you must go and try the Philly and the spiral ham grinder. You’ll thank me.

Some restaurants can be described as new school. Others are best defined as old school. The places I have the most respect for can best be defined as their own school. Dan’s doesn’t march to the beat of its own drummer, it’s more its own drumline. Being part sub shop, part purveyors of fine hams, Dan’s makes one hell of a ham sandwich. It’s made with a thick, spiral cut ham that’s smoked to perfection and served on a fresh baked sub bun. You get your choice of mayo, mustard, onion, tomato, lettuce and banana peppers. Be warned, the mayo is actually salad dressing. This may be a little disconcerting to some, but remember, to the beat of their own drumline. The thick slices of ham are akin to making a sandwich out of leftover Easter ham. The Italian sub is also a decent enough sandwich as well, and they have all the normal lunch meats you’ll find at a sandwich place, but they’re more your run-of-the-mill three star sandwiches. It’s the ham that pushes it to four. Second be warned, cash only.
