Tubby’s Grilled Submarines

Just ordered delivery from them about an hour ago. The girl that picked up the phone was cheerful & quick & gave me a wait time of 30 min (which is typical for delivery). They deliver within a 5 mile radius which is nice since most places only go 2 – 3 miles. My sandwich was a couple minutes past the expected time but the delivery guy called me & told me he got lost so I gave him directions & it was here within a couple minutes. Oh & there was no delivery charge. YES PEOPLE DELIVERY WAS FREE!!! From my understanding it’s only this location & for a limited time period. My food was delicious. a bit cold but he’d probably been driving about 15 mins with it. I ordered the original Philly cheesesteak & mac n cheese bites. The bites were AMAZING. No artificial cheese flavour & they were cooked to a beautiful crisp. Thank you Tubby’s!

I’ve always had a soft spot for the Tubby brand, but my loyalty was truly tested during my last visit. The seating area was empty when my husband and I came. We couldn’t find a table without crumbs, grease stands or napkins that littered the ground. We wiped a table down with some napkins and water from my drink before we sat down to eat. The staff was friendly but shortly after they took our orders and called us to pick up our food, they disappeared to the back and didn’t make it out again to check on us or say goodbye.
The air was thick with old grease smells and my chicken and cheddar sub? My tastebuds remembered something entirely different because the sub wasn’t that good. I mean the cheddar wasn’t even melted all the way.
With fresh thyme market coming into the downtown area, I hope tubbys will get its act together. From what I saw, I literally felt like the franchise gave up. It was apparent in their dirty and outdated floor plan. I am hesitant to come back.

Has always been clean and staff super nice each time I have came.
Remember my first chicken and cheese over 20 years ago before everyone had a sub shop like today.
We ordered chicken and cheese, steak and cheese and a Italian today and all were great. The bread was only reason not 5 star experience as was dried out some.
Place was spotless and clearly not as stated in other reviews.

Nothing better than a Classic Italian, and I’m talking about the sub!
I used to work a couple doors down and would always grab Tubby’s for lunch, the staff has always had friendly people. The owners are two of the nicest, always have a smile on their face. Even not working a couple doors down, I still get great service!
Personally, I haven’t seen the place in bad shape like some of the other reviews. The floors are always cleaned (although sometimes a little streaky, still cleaned) and the bathrooms are well-​kept. Love the décor, very vibrant and nice to walk into.
Mmm I could really go for some Mac and Cheese bites!

They hardly put any meat on my steak and cheese sub. the first time I went6 it was good but now I’m not sure. the meat they put on what smashed small soggy steak pieces and wasn’t much meat there. I felt like I just ate a loaf of bread. Hope they get better and have better deals. I think they are pricey for what u get

The place wasn’t exactly screaming on cleanliness. The food options were all basically the same thing, I ordered the grilled chicken. The bread was stale and the chicken was horribly dry.
The entire place smelled like the inside of a deep fryer, which might be nice if you’re into that sort of thing.

No sanitary measures taken, took a dirty tray wiped it with a napkin and put my sub on it … I am starving and have things to do I am probably going to get sick… I will let you know

As far as sandwich restaurants go, this is a pretty nice place! We came here right when we had bad snowstorms so the place was empty. They have a pretty extensive menu with a good selection of different sandwiches and sides. It was in the evening and really cold outside so we decided to go with warm sandwiches. We ordered the Steak N Cheese and their Philly Cheesesteak. I also ordered their seasoned fries.
The Steak N Cheese was really good, nice flavor and cooked well. The philly cheesesteak was good, basically a Steak N Cheese but with melted cheese and green peppers. Their seasoned fries really stood out and I thought they were really awesome combination.
I was REALLY hungry and ordered their large sandwich and it was REALLY big! I was stuffed the rest of the evening, probably don’t need the large unless you have a really big appetite or want leftovers.

Food was great, delicious sub. My biggest concern was that the lady preparing my food. When my food was close to being done, she handled some raw meat, answered the phone, which she passed to another employee that did not have gloves on. Finally, she grabbed the bread for my sub with her raw meat/​dirty phone contaminated hand. Disgusting. Did I eat it after? Of course, but I’ll keep you posted if I get dysentery from this place. So if you’re interested in eating tasty but questionable food, this is the place to go.

Time to rate the best submarine shops in the area, both chains and small business.
This is first on my list for a reason. It is a hometown submarine shop and still in my opinion the best chain submarine.
The best thing that happened to me was when they opened this one up in downtown Farmington.
My meal and rating.
Tubby’s best Steak & Cheese. You can watch as they grill up the steak, toss in the onions, and chop it up. Fresh sesame seed bun!
I didn’t add or subtract anything from the standard menu item. They put the Tubby’s Famous sauce dressing (like Italian dressing), delicious.
I ordered the combination, fries (or chips), and a medium drink. The fries are hot and pretty good, not the best (McDonald’s).
Since I didn’t eat in the restaurant, which by the way is decorated pretty nice and gives you a nice warm comfortable feeling, I ordered some of the mac-​n-​cheese bites for the trip home.
Outstanding, if you’ve never had these try them from here.
Great taste as the cheese just oozed out after taking a bite of the corner. I had to slam it in my mouth before the cheese dripped in the car and burned my cheek as they were so greasy hot.
Meal — five stars
The service was fast and friendly. Since I didn’t call ahead I waited for the meal. Not too long as they dropped it on the grill as soon as I ordered.
Someone took the order and then someone else cooked it up.
I had a little bit of time to chat with one of the sisters who owns the restaurant. Very nice. They remembered me from previously stopping.

I ventured into the restroom while waiting for my meal.
Nothing fancy (men’s room) but clean.
This location is also on the corner of the building and a good place to do some people watching as you relax and scarf down your sandwich.
This is the nicest store in the Detroit area for a Tubby’s sub. (There used a be another submarine chain in this location).
