Smashburger

I always enjoy the food here. Last time I was there I got a grilled cheese when I’d wanted a cheese burger. I’m not sure if I misspoke or they misheard, but they were great about it and got me what I wanted even though they were slammed and short handed.

The burgers here are amazing!!! Customer service is a hit of miss. Sometimes you get great employees and sometimes not so good. I guess they have a large turn over of employees.
The food is really good. I love the veggie side of carrots and green beans that are cut like French fries. The chicken burgers are great!!! I love the bbq sauce there.

Went last night for round two after the regional manager apologized for our earlier visit. Honestly, this was a really good burger. This time I got the «Big Burger» rather than the smash burger, it is only a $ 1 difference and the difference was noticeable. This time everything was on my burger, there was no smoke, no issues ordering, our food came out promptly and everything tasted great. The veggies were fresh, the bun was really good. I wouldn’t say this was the best burger I have ever had, but I definitely will be back to this Smash Burger. The woman who helped us that the front was awesome, and no one was wearing headphones during ordering lol!

Place could be so much more! Burgers have been good every time I have eaten here. But the service is bad. Staff has absolutely no clue on good customer service. The burgers on several occasions were missing toppings that I had ordered and even one time I was given a two patty burger which I didn’t order. The last straw were the rock hard fries that nearly broke my teeth which I was served. I tried the Tysons and Merrifield Smashburger locations and both suffer from same below par service and difficulty getting the order right problems.
I’ll skip this place in the future and go with Five Guys when I have to have a fast food style burger, the customer service at Five Guys is far superior and they can get orders right.

Went on a Friday 12:45ish. Girl at counter told us we could not place our order. When asked why she said the kitchen was backed up. Waited 10 minutes, then the manager came out offered a bunch of excuses. Gave me a free entrée coupon. Food came out fast and hot. Theeeeeeen went to wash my hands off from all the burger juices. THE MOST DISGUSTING BATHROOM! Floor was sticky, sink had days worth of gunk and hair… won’t even go there about the toilet. Will not go back. Ever. Gave my coupon away. Bleh.

Wouldn’t know because no one ever came to take my order.
Writing this as I am leaving. Came in, two people already in front of me, NO ONE at the register. See one employee making a shake and a couple in the back cooking. Same employee making the shake, takes food from the back to deliver to a table then disappears.
Stood for maybe 2 – 3 minutes (feels like 5 or more minutes lol) without any kind of acknowledgement, not a big location so maybe 5 people were at tables. I would of waited if someone at least announced that someone was coming, or they will be right with me. But to see customers coming in and no one is at the front is just bad business to me. Won’t be back.

Went a couple times and it was just OK. My husband doesn’t like it at all. He said the burgers have a weird flavor and are too greasy. I would probably try it again.

Horrible service and management. Ordered online for pickup and when we got there 5 min after our order was to be ready they still hadn’t prepared it. Only one person in kitchen. Waited an additional 10 min. Very poorly managed of the smash burgers I’ve been to. Go to elevation burger right nearby. Better service and great burgers. Shame on his place making other Smashburgers look bad. Won’t be back.

The food here is generally good but the place is really badly managed. The milkshakes in particular are great, and sometimes we want to come here just to grab a milkshake, but there’s about a ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ chance at any given time that they will have ‘run out’ of ice cream. Seems short-​sighted to consistently run out of one of your menu mainstays.
On top of that, I’ve been in a few times when they were badly understaffed. Once, the minute we walked in the door, the person at the register yelled that they were only taking carryout orders only. When I asked why, since they were an hour and a half or so away from closing, I was told, «It’s just me here and I can’t do it all by myself!»
I’ve pretty much stopped going.

They probably do the best job of making a «homemade» style burger from any of the chains, but the portions are so tiny I dont see how they can justify it. I dont mind paying $ 15 for a burger/​fries/​drink combo but it either needs to be larger or better quality. With so much competition around here with burgers, I dont see how they can last.

Darriel & Roddy made our first smashburger trip amazing. Recommended excellent burgers with a smile. Food came out quick and delicious. Will be coming back regularly.

Food is yummy but service is not friendly. Staff has some attitude, and parking is somewhat limited. Cleanliness is not that great, I assume because this is because it is a busy location. I personally would not come here again, and would go somewhere else if I am in the area.

I’m done giving this place chances. I’ve been five or six times now, and every time there is some new frustration. They get orders wrong a lot. Tonight I ordered online for the first time, pre-​paying by credit card. When I went inside there was a line, but on the wall there was a sign pointing to the place where food sits saying «pick up online orders here» or something like that. So I walked over there and there was my bag – with my name on it. I took it and then asked for my shake and one of the guys working there chewed me out for taking my bag of food saying I had to wait in line. Well, then why is that sign there? My shake was not, of course, made yet. Even though it was 6:15 and my order was supposed to be ready at 6:00. They were so rude that I got frustrated and left without the shake even though I had already paid for it.
But what I really can’t stand is the parking. I’ve almost never been able to just pull into a spot – the lot is usually full and you have to drive through several times and grab a spot just as someone pulls out. It’s incredibly frustrating. Tonight I was trapped there because there was someone who desperately wanted my spot blocking my way out and it took like five minutes for them to figure out that they needed to back up for me to be able to exit the space and give it to them.
Just go to Elevation Burger up the street. Better food there, anyway.

My friend and I came here because of all the good reviews about their burgers — and we were not disappointed! I ordered the Spicy Baja burger. Absolutely delicious meat patty with crisp veggies and heavenly bun. Everything in the burger complemented each other and the flavours fit perfectly. My only complaint is that my garlic fries felt a bit too greasy, although still tasty. The décor of the restaurant is really warm and clean. Overall a great place and we will definitely be returning.

Good: Really interesting menu, and tasty burgers and fries. I had a truffle mushroom swiss burger which was nice and the buffalo fries were tasty also, even if they were really just regular fries with flavored powder.
Bad: We arrived at 1:00 on a Monday, which I’d think would be late in the lunch rush. No line, but the guy behind the counter told us to wait and disappeared for 10 minutes. We waited another 10 minutes or so for our burgers. The place was noticeably messy, with old fries on the table, spilled drinks, and garbage around. I really liked the other Smashburger I visited, and the menu, but I don’t see myself coming back here.

Just as the name says… This place makes you wanna SMASH… Oops…I mean get into a good burger! I came here out of boredom from my regular lunch options in Arlington, with no expectation except…“Feed Me!“
On this particular day, I was really craving a good burger! So I pulled out the Unilocal app and noticed most of the burger spots suggested… I had already been to except for there was Smashburger. Heard of it, but hadn’t eaten there before. It was a new option and I figured go for it. Mind you… the ratings were all over the place too. So things were initially not looking in my favor. Nevertheless, I chose this place because I got tired of swiping to find the perfect burger and staring at a 4.7-inch IPhone 6 screen.
It was my first time so I was little angst and did not know what to expect. I guess I felt this way because I am a burger snob… yes, I repeat… Burger to the capital «S”-nob! I have a certain ‘Je né sais quoi’ which I can’t describe but I know it when I see and taste it when it comes to burgers… that certain standard and the main requirement that it better be „juuisssayy and rightfully seasoned“…medium rare might I add as well. So I was skeptical of this place based on some of the reviews. But, judging off the smells of the food cooking inside the place alone… my tension began to ease. I ordered the:
* CAPITAL SMASH — Juicy Angus Beef, Crispy Shoestring Onions, Grilled Onions, Swiss Cheese, Baby Arugula, Apple-​wood Smoked Bacon, Tomato & Mayo on a brioche bun.
* SMASH FRIES — Thin cut french fries tossed in Italian olive oil, rosemary & garlic!
VERDICT: Let me be the first to say…“JACKPOT!»
Everything was on point! The burger was super seasoned and cooked to perfection… and «Juicy» was its middle name. The fries, an unusual item, were delicious and an added plus… great in flavor and definitely something different from the salt & pepper norm. The toppings were fresh, crunchy and I couldn’t have ask for anything more to complete my meal. I definitely was impressed and left Smashburger completely satisfied.
I just wished this location was closer to my workplace or home because I would definitely be there on the regular. Last, I deducted a star because the customer service and staff seemed a little bootlegged — needing improvement. But, in all… a great food experience. If I am ever back in this vicinity again, I am sure I will be making a quick stop to SMASH!

I live a couple blocks from here and have been a handful of times, most recently last night. I don’t think I’ve ever been there when they’ve gotten an order right, but last night was the straw that broke the camels back. I ordered 2 entrée salads and a burger to bring home (not all for me, I promise). The amount of food I received for $ 25 could have fed me alone, though.
My mistake for not opening the bag before I left, but when I arrived home I came to quickly realize our salads were prepared in the smallest to-​go containers they had (when they should come in the bowls) — the type of to-​go container you get at a restaurant when you can only eat half your sandwich and the other half barely fits in the box, that small box… a $ 9 salad in that tiny box, that’s a joke right???
In a fit of rage feeling like I had been robbed, I hopped back in the car and took them back, wanting an explanation and a refund. Those salads were a joke.
The manager came out, took his time, said, «yeah man, we ran out of bowls» to which I pointed to the bowls sitting on the counter and he said, «oh those just arrived». I was there less than 10minutes ago. Not to mention, if you don’t have the proper serving materials, then say something OR provide the same portion in multiple smaller containers — don’t give your customer ¼ of what they’re paying for and hope they don’t notice. Then he didn’t know how to issue a refund. Complete BS.
We’ve seriously never been there when they’ve provided a correct order. I wish I could leave 0 stars. The owner of this restaurant needs to reevaluate his management and training. Horrible waste of money and time.

I officially quit this location.
I have 28 check ins on Unilocal.They have gotten my order wrong… NOT EVEN EXAGGERATING… probably about 20 times out of those 28. I don’t know if they have an inability to read the tickets, or if they just have no idea how to make their menu items.
This last visit the girl expediting asked me what dressing I would like. I purposefully said «the one that comes with it» and she looked at me with lost sad eyes.
I got my salad back to work and in their world «no guac» actually means «no bacon»
How dare you Smashburger! You can take away my guac, but don’t ever take away my bacon.

So disappointed in the hype surrounding Smashburger – aka fast casual burger joint number 74 – but delicious premium ice cream milkshakes made from hand-​dipped Haagan Dazs are worth a stop-​in. ***this review is only for the Swiss «truffle» burger experience***
There are so many specialty burger franchises popping up on every corner that it’s hard to distinguish one from the other at times, but I HAD to try Smashburger after it was dubbed the best fast casual chain in the country right now.
The burger:
Smashburger slogans on drink cups and plaques promise juiciness beyond the competition, and my truffle Swiss burger was indeed dripping when the server brought it to my table – but from oil more so than juice. I’m not huge on grease, and the burger was unctuous and too oily for my taste. My love affair with rich, earthy mushrooms is legend, but I found the truffle Swiss burger reminiscent of chopped creminis sautéed in that cheap, synthetic truffle oil with 2 – 4 dithiapentane – a heady aromatic meant to emulate truffle flavor. Add «truffle» oil to greasy burger and get something that makes even the nicest brioche bun soggy. Even the bitter arugula greens didn’t offset this oleaginous mess. Sigh…
The shake:
I was wallowing in my disappointment over the truffle Swiss burger when my chocolate hand-​dipped Hagaan Dazs milkshake arrived along with the leftovers in a separate stainless cylinder. Instant smile! Rich, creamy, delicious! This home run assuaged my suffering and left me content to munch my bf’s fries and lick my proverbial wounds (and the milkshake spoon!) from the let down of the pinguid, artificial truffle burger:-(
The verdict:
Although other burgers might be worth a trip to Smashburger, the truffle Swiss variety was a colossal let-​down. With other fast, casual gourmet choices like Ray’s Hellburger, BGR, Kraze, Elevation, Orange and Black, and Thunderburger, Smashbox is very low on my list of fresh, prime burger joints in the DMV.
