I knew this place sucked but gosh I didn’t think it would close. Hey, anyone know why this place closed? Apparently the one in Falls Church and Alexandria have shut their doors. At one time there was a sign on the door that said the place was undergoing renovation, but that was months ago I have not seen anything being renovated. Well, good ridden because that place was all fluff and no substance!

This is the only place where I can get my Api(same as the chicha morada purple drink regularly served cold/bottled, but hot). I love it, makes me feel so healthy and strong! Funny thing to say but honestly that’s how I feel about most all of the latin cooking at this place, doesn’t feel at all that greasy like many other places I’ve tried. Tastes Quality. Also the plates are oh-so heavy. Beware of the beef platters! And yes, the tres leches is out of this world.

Our office has a staff meeting each week and we bring treats so I decided to stop by this bakery based on the Unilocaler’s reviews. I stepped into the little café and decided to have lunch also. I ordered the Three Course lunch which included soup, drink, bread, main dish AND cake for $ 7.95. Are you kiddin’ me? I spend that much only for a bowl of noodle soup! What a bargain. I had the Piqué Macho which was just a tad salty but with the pappas fritas, it sort of balanced out. The beef soup is almost exactly like how I make soup so I was very happy about that surprising accompanying dish. The Tres Leches cake also came with the meal which I’m pretty certain put me into a food coma. I purchased the 10″ Tres Leche cake for the staff meeting and everyone raved. Got a few extra points with the boss and our receptionist! After another piece of cake, I’m in some kind of blissful, altered mental state… la la la Quite a little gem in the neighborhood. Will be going back for the empanadas and saltenas soon.

The good: Yes, go with the crowd and get the tasty saltenas. The eh: The empanadas were rather bland. The iffy: I love sweets, but the tres leches was too sweet… like stale cake soaked in canned condensed milk.

I’m not Bolivian so I don’t know if the food is how it’s «suppose» to taste but its very good. My #1 reason for going here is their Saltenas. Very very delicious whether you get them fried or baked. It’s my 8 yr old’s favorite food(right after pizza of course). I’ve had Saltenas from other places and they are nowhere as good as here. And their Aji(green chili sauce) is to die for. Just the right amount of hotness and flavor. I’m right in the middle of 2 locations, this one and Manassas. I wish they’d open up a place closer to Ashburn… but it’s worth the drive. OHHHOHHH and I almost forgot to tell you about their fabulous cake of Tres Leches… that’s 3 Milks for you none Spanish speakers. Everyone must try it. Good for absolutely any occasion.

cute little café. it’s kind of hidden. has really good bolivian pastries here. we got some bolivian cheese bread. which was YUM! the lady was really helpful too. they also sell saltenas here. it’s only a 3 star since there wasn’t that much to choose from when we went. and the bread we got looked totally different than in the city of La Paz

EMPANADADEQUESO!!! They call it pastelitos here because it’s fried and topped with powdered sugar. I haven’t had this since I was in Bolivia. I tried to make it at home a bunch of times to the discouraging reality that my empanadas were not as big and fluffy as I remembered them to be in Bolivia. Alas, I can fly to VA for these. They also have majadito!!! the way to eat this is to break the yolk and smear it on your rice. bonus = comes with fried plantains(see my pics). They also have MOCOCHINCHI, my all-time favorite drink(dehydrated peach in cinnammon and sugared water). After you’re done drinking it, you put the peach in your mouth and just suck on it all day long. Yummmm…

Great little place. I love finding places that I never would have noticed had I not read the reviews. Thanks Unilocal and Unilocalers! We had checked the menu on the website out beforehand and decided to get dinner here, but upon arrival we stood around dumbly trying to figure out what to do. There was no menu in sight and they only cakes, breads, pastries, and empanadas in the case. People were sitting at the tables and had plates with real food, but we had no idea how to get that and there wasn’t a sign indicating what dine-in people should do. Eventually we got to the front of the line for baked good and after asking for a menu, we were promptly seated. Three people split the following: Empanada de pollo and saltenas(beef and chicken stew) — Both were good, although I like the saucier saltenas. I think Julia’s are a bit better. Lomo saltado — The steak didn’t have a char, but was very flavorful from the marinade and tender. The rice was a bit wet, but tasty. The fries were pretty good. Lechon — Unlike the Filipino roasted pork lechon, this was like a huge panfried boneless pork chop. A little salty and there were some hunks of fat, but really really tasty. The fried plantains were also really good. The accompanying salad was just iceberg lettuce and tomatoes. Same fries and rice as the lomo saltado. Sun dried peach juice — Served with the sun dried peach at the bottom. Looked like umeshu(Japanese preserved plum liquor with the plum at the bottom), tasted kind of like su jeong gwa(Korean persimmon punch) or maybe shik hye(Korean rice punch). Pretty good. This was too much food for three people and we ended up taking some home. We also bought some bread and pastries for the road. We didn’t eat those until the next day, so I’m sure they’re better fresh. Tres leches cake in a cup — Sweeter than the last tres leches I had elsewhere, almost hitting too sweet, but mostly creamy and delicious. Cream horn and strawberry napoleon — Both puff pastry based with custard filling. The custard was a little chewy or rubbery? Not sure if that means too much starch binder or all the moisture was sucked up by the puff pastry. Still tastes good. Caucas(crunchy white roll) and chamitas(crunchy wheat roll) — Alright. Nothing too out of the ordinary. Our server was really nice and helpful. The menu includes English descriptions of everything and has pictures of most items so you can figure out what to order. They must have sold at least five cakes while we were there. Oddly, gratuity was included for three people, but I think the included amount was only 10% or so. Everything included, it was about $ 45. What a bargain. I’ll definitely be back to try more!

so i had a hankering… a hankering for some empanadas. but the hankering wasnt enough to overcome the laziness that this suburb kid has when it comes to going into dc proper. so we went to my bakery & café. got the chicken and beef empanadas and a saltenas. the empanadas were pretty big in comparison to other ones we had, but there wasnt too much filling. the saltenas was our favorite, but having never had one before, others in the know may think otherwise. either way, my bakery satisfied my craving for empanadas, but just barely.

It’s the same ol’ story… I passed by this place a hundred times and finally decided to give it a try. I really like it, and I am starting to become a regular. In general, My Bakery & Café has great food, quick and friendly service and low prices. That sounds like a winner to me! The Food — So far I’ve tried the Empanada de Carne(filled with marinated steak and potatoes), the Saltena(filled with beef and vegetable in a vegetable stew), the Chicken with Fries appetizer and a whopping slice of the Tres Leches cake. On this very hot afternoon, I tried their creamy Strawberry shake — mmmm. I’m a newbie with Latin American cuisine, but this is great stuff. The breads and pastries are delicious, and the meats and vegetables are perfectly seasoned and mildly spicy. Serving sizes are generous — you certainly won’t leave hungry. This little place also has a sizeable menu with sandwiches and platters for breakfast, sandwiches w/fries for lunch or dinner, empanadas /saltenas, two pages of seafood/steak/chicken entrees, breads, sweet rolls, cakes, ice cream and cream puffs. Not too many vegetarian options, but there a few tasty veg selections. The small dining room is clean and friendly, and always seems to have a table open. In rushes, some folks choose to take a seat and relax a while, while most seem to grab their empanadas or Tres Lechese cup for a quick bite on the go. The service — Mariana has been my server each time I’ve eaten at the restaurant. She seems like a really sweet lady, and takes good care of me. The prices — Today I had a quick dinner for $ 7 before tip. $ 7 for delicious food and great service! Why spend it at some cardboard greasepit like Wendy’s or McDonald’s? This is delicious food you can grab ‘n’ go, and you can support a great local business. 4.5 stars — This is a great spot and PERFECT for dining solo. This is casual dining done right, and a favorite spot for me. I haven’t tried most of the menu… so depending upon future visits, I may bump it to 5 stars. Happy dining!

4.5 stars for the best bakery in Annandale. Not ONLY do they have the absolute ULTIMATE Tres Leches, they also have empanadas, and all sorts of Spanish pastries. My cousin and I ended up having breakfast here when picking up a Tres Leches cake, and oooo boyyyy, it was randy, baby. Mexican style omelet filled with cheeese, green and red peppers, sweet onions, chorizos(mmm), made in just the right amount of oil. On the side were some beans and rice, a small salad of cold tomatoes, onions, and peppers, and tortillas! They also have 100% fresh sqeezed OJ squeezed right before served… can I just say… AMAZING. The second best part, the first being the meal, it all costs a mere $ 10 bucks! Talk about cheap eats. Its making me salivate just writing this review. The service was great – despite lack of english speaking abilities of the spanish servers there – but still very attentive to their customers. Besides my meal, there seemed to be a plethora of choices for breakfast, lunch, dinner, small snack, dessert! I will definitely be back to try everything. P. S. The cake was a hit!

Ahhh… a good bakery. A Bolivian bakery. That serves dinner. Cute little place that bakes up fresh pukacapas(spicy cheesy affairs) cunapes(another yummy cheesy pastry) empanadas of all sorts, and of course, saltenas. Now, while their saltenas are not the most amazing I’ve ever had, they’re good. But they take it to the next level– and also offer deep fried saltenas: those are AMAZING. I don’t eat those often b/c I know that they are absolute diet busters– but every once in a while– I gorge. They also offer platters of bolivian staples– but honestly, I’ve only tried the bakery. And whenever my bolivian parents visit– it’s off to the bakery I go…
