Breakfast here is always good, my personal favorite is the«Hobo Banquet» it consists of home fries, corned beef hash and eggs any style along with your choice of toast. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Good food, decent price.

This place is chill. I went in for an eggs Benedict breakfast and it came out pretty good. They poached the egg so it wasn’t too firm or too runny, which was nice. Be sure to ask them to go easy on the hollandiase unless you like a lot, because they smother it in hollandaise. It comes with home style breakfast potatoes that have onions and green peppers. They were very good. I ordered an oatmeal with fresh strawberries, and it was huge. The service was extremely prompt and my server kept my iced tea filled. The host was also friendly and there was plenty of good seating. I recommend this place to anyone looking for a local diner. I’ve been to a lot of local diners and this place is just right. The menu is very extensive and they have just about everything(except for veggie burgers, which is too bad). The prices were reasonable. I will probably be making more regular visits to City Diner.

This place has been in the area for a few years(actually decades) and usually never disappoints with the food or the service. The menu is extensive and you might take at least 10 minutes to decide on what to order but maybe I can help you. The Matzo ball soup is probably the best I’ve ever had. I am not Jewish but have been to several places including households who serve this soup but none could beat the flavor! Definitely order. The Gyros platter is always staple at a Greek diner/restaurant and I always order to gauge if the food is good or not. It’s good. I am not a fan of crunch coating on french fries so I get it replaced with a side order of rice pilaf. The gyro meat is usually cut fresh and juicy but there are times where they have served me previously cut gyro meat which dried out and was hard. My wife on occaision would get the fried clams. They recently changed seafood distributors and the seafood tastes fresher especially the clams. Another item to get is breakfast. They do it well and their buttermilk pancakes are better than IHOPIMHO… AND lastly get some dessert. You can eye them at the cake and dessert counter on display. Cheers!

Stopped in — starving, hadn’t eaten all day — exhausted at a very late hour. Wife judiciously got a delicious waffle and bacon, but I went whole-hog with a skillet of home fries, hash, eggs, cheese, toast. Fabulous, perfectly cooked — good, fresh food at days 30 minutes before closing — that’s rare!,

Solid breakfasts, decent gyros and souvlakis, hot coffee, tons of grandma crap everywhere so your grandma will feel right at home here. They also do a righteous mazoh ball soup that will destroy any cold on contact, boychik. Not a lie in my mouth!

Everyone was extremely nice! The food was fresh… not just bought«fresh» I’m talking about someone baked every single different bread used for the meal my friend and I had fresh! It’s a little cramped and we were placed in the booth that opened to the kitchen door. Other than being bumped by the door a few times, I throughly enjoyed my food. So, no worries, I’ll definitely be returning.

Breakfast food is the best here. Everything cooked as ordered and delicious. Service was right there when you needed it. Stopped by for lunch as well. Chicken soup was good not great and forget the soup and sandwich. The sandwich was terrible. Looked like Kroger lunch meat on the Ham and cheese sandwich. Décor is just a little too much Grandma stuff cluttering every flat surface. Time to clean up.

I’ve become a regular at this place. I’ve passed by it on many occasions but never stopped in for a bite. I’m so glad that I did. The food is always good and I usually have breakfast. It has a great quality and its always served fast and fresh. All the wait staff are pleasant and friendly. I usually sit at the bar so I get to chat with them all. It’s a very relaxing and welcoming environment and never you loud or busy. Even during the most busy times, a table can be had with very little or no wait. Give it a try and see for yourself.

First things first, City Diner has the BEST matzo ball soup in the area. It’s not even on the menu, but ask for it(it comes in both cup and bowl size). The City Diner is amazing. The food is super tasty classic diner fare that won’t disappoint and the service is friendly, efficient and always spot on. Craving a really good simple burger or classic club? City Diner has you covered. You should go asap and I promise you won’t disappointed. And they also do carryout orders!

The food was delicious, the blueberry pancakes were a WINNER! Turkey sausage are a bonus, you can taste the sage in every bite! My wife had the grits and she ate the whole bowl… wait a minute, you don’t know my wife, she doesn’t finish any meals… BUTSHEATETHEWHOLEBOWLOFGRITS! They had to be delicious for her to do that. My ONLY concern was the service was a little inattentive. What I mean is, when I got hot coffee, I had to wait for the waiter to pour the other clients their coffee before I received cream. Also I had to wait for him to find Splenda packets. With that said the overall experience was delightful.

First time here, I really enjoyed the food and the service. We came in today for a late breakfast. We were greeted and seated immediately, our waiter took our order and got us our drinks right away. Not even 5 – 6 minutes and our food was out. I got the western omelette and it was delicious the food tasted very fresh and well seasoned. I’d definitely come back to try other foods. Highly recommended, no wait and food came right out. They have a big menu — lots of stuff to order from. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner(I’ll probably try dinner next time).

I wish I knew about this place sooner! French toast is so moist & delicious. They use house made challah bread. Coffee was so fresh and I got almost 3 refills! I also enjoyed the atmosphere of this restaurant. We will definitely visit again for their desserts. This is located on the edge of southern Arlington and Falls Church area.

We came twice for breakfast while in town for the Marine Corps Marathon and enjoyed it both times! Our first trip we both had omelets with home fries. Both were tasty and had a lot of the addins we had selected. Our second trip, post race, I tried the French Toast and it was delicious! My husband had another custom order omelet and it was just as tasty as the first. Great diner, would like to come later and try some of the other dishes.

Yes, five stars, and I think it’s well deserved. Even though we live in DC proper, when we’re craving diner food, there’s no place better in the area. From the moment you walk in the door, the staff is fantastic. No matter how busy they are, I’ve rarely seen hosting done better anywhere short of a Michelin star restaurant. You feel welcome and valued – other places should come just watch them work! The servers are equally excellent, friendly and efficient. But of course, we’re there for the food. Straightforward and always good, I’ve never had a bad thing there. It’s hard to beat their hash browns, crispy, buttery and perfectly seasoned. Everything that is made to order comes out hot and with the perfect cook. Really good coffee as well. And yes, it hasn’t been renovated for decades, but that’s a key part of their charm. I love so many restaurants and cuisines, but I can’t imagine a more go-to comfort place any time of day. Don’t miss!

This is our«go to» breakfast stop for my family. Half of us prefer breakfast while the other prefers lunch. This is our compromise since they have a full breakfast and lunch menu. The service is friendly and helpful with options. I love their Greek omelette! Their home fries are hit or miss… Better choice is the fruit! They have a big menu… I haven’t had time to try all the other options yet… Their prices seem a little high but they do serve big portions… We have only done breakfast here. I would give actually 4 stars because of service.

Cyndy’s Bottom Line: Great place to stop in for a quick breakfast if you are in the area. I was in the vicinity looking for a hearty breakfast and noticed City Diner. The menu is huge with so many options for breakfast. This is what I ate: I ordered two eggs with sausage, grits and wheat toast. You have a choice between home fries or grits. The eggs were cooked as ordered. The sausage was delicious. The grits nicely buttered, good thick texture, hearty and delicious. Coffee is strong.

Old people seem to love this place. I’m not sure if I do. The City Diner is exactly what it says: a diner. In Arlington, a city. It appears to be run by a Greek family, so it’s like a diner in NYC. It has lots of breakfast foods and a healthy selection of lunch/dinner offerings, and it’s all basically what you would expect. I hate to treat this place as if it’s a generic diner like every other diner, but… that’s kinda what it is. The food itself is plentiful, but not amazing. I got the«Lumberjack,» which was a mixture of a sweet carb(French toast, pancakes, or waffles — I got the first) with sausage, egg, and bacon. The French toast was rather good and thick. The eggs(which I asked for scrambled) were VERY undercooked and weirdly runny. The bacon was tasty, but a bit mushy. The sausage was rather good. This place is frequented by a ton of older folk, like virtually every diner in the area. This is likely because of the volume of the food for the rather reasonable price. Problem is, I just can’t see the appeal — there are way too many good brunch places in Arlington to hit up a diner. Once I get massively drunk or old, though, I might change my tune.
