What a shame! The quality of the produce has just gone downhill. It’s second rate quality. I frequented this place because of the impressive freshness and high quality vegetables they used to sell. Over the past year the store has been sparse with produce and customers! At any point in time the store would be bustling with customers, the clerks were friendly and not worried about their cellphones, and it was a bright place to shop. Forget about all that now…

This wonderful Italian market has been sold to Chinese owners who are more interested in profit than produce. It was almost impossible to find a decent, crisp, healthy green pepper without soft spots and wrinkles. There was even an old one rotting in the bin. I purchased a shallot two weeks ago and needed to throw it away today as it rotted. Considering that it is sometimes hard to park and you need to feed the meter, I recommend you stay away. If you live in the neighborhood, you’ll do better at the small supermarket next door.

Best Italian deli around! Quality sandwiches, delicious mozzarella and homemade stuffed peppers. You get what you pay for which explains the quality. Try the octopus salad too, very tasty.

I love this little market!!! I moved from Chicago and I had something like it around the corner from my place. I was so excited to find this little gem. I’m a big supporter of the neighborhood markets and this one should not be missed! The owners are wonderful and the produce is always fresh. I love all the imported food and drinks too. They have great prices on San Pellegrino and lot of different flavors you can’t find anywhere else. As for the said a «tomato is a tomato», he doesn’t deserve to shop at Dante’s Market. I totally agree with Attillio D. That guys not a snob, but an idiot. I’m a food snob. I have to be, I’m a chef. Food snobs are the best resource for good food. Dante’s Market is at the top of my list for fabulous fresh produce and lots of other goodies you only find in Italy! Buon Appetito!

When I lived in the area this was one of my go-to places for produce and Italian cold cuts. Small store that’s owned by a nice italian family. The produce might be a bit more than A&P, but the quality is much better. In the back they have a small deli area. Great local place to shop if you are from or in the area. Parking is a bit tough… street only.

We used to live in West New York, N.J. and always shopped at Dante’s. Their sandwiches(Dante Special) are the best of the best. The fruit and vegetables are always of the highest quality. What goes inside your stomach matters. We now live in Florida and whenever we come up to NJ we stop first at Dante to get a sandwich. Then we go to Rispoli for a pastry. We don’t miss the weather but we do miss the food.

When people sometimes get blinded by a price, they sometimes fail to take into account the quality. I was shopping in the store one day, when some snub customer actually said, «Wow, your prices are expensive. The tomatoes in A&P are 10 cents cheaper» right to the owners face. The owner, being very modest and humble, calmly replied, «You get what you pay for.» The gentleman said, «A tomato is a tomato.» The owner said this and the guy nearly fainted, «I’ve been doing this for over 30 years. Take this tomato, I’ll pay for it. Now go and buy the other tomato. When you take it home, cut them up and taste them. You tell me which tomato tasted better.» Needless to say, I have to go back to see what happened next. Other than that, just had an amazing prosciutto mozzarella sandwich! The sandwiches are just simply the best! * Unilocal: Only the rating for your most recent review counts towards the business’ average rating.*

My comments apply to the prepared foods section at the back of the store: delicious fresh stuff, great prices. Eggplant parm is out of this world. (The rest of the store is full of beautiful produce with great variety, but I haven’t found the pricing advantageous in any way. Then again, if you live within walking distance, you’ve saved yourself a ride, and that’s worth something and a favor to the environment.)

Always fresh produce, quality food at low prices, great deli spread, nice Italian family, and love the Mozzarella.
