Golden Phoenix Chinese Restaurant

We ordered for delivery. One paht Thai and one udon noodle soup with shrimp. In the description it said it was traditional udon noodle soup with shrimp and fish cake. When I opened my order it was in a typical rectangle Chinese take out box. I spent 15.00 for soup and what I received was a mess of 4 shrimp with udon noodles, onions and bean sprouts with peanuts on the top. Ridiculous. I will never order again.

We went to the Golden Phoenix on Christmas day. What a major disappointment! There were tables near us with dirty dishes on them for 45 minutes. We waited 10 minutes for a glass of water. I ordered an egg roll that lacked flavor. I had to ask for sauce and mustard for dipping. When I used the downstairs restroom after dinner I saw an entire tray of egg rolls in a room near the restroom near a trash can. My daughter ordered chicken curry. It had 5 pieces of chicken, a few carrots and about 2 entire onions. We had to wait for plates after our dinners arrived. We never had our water refilled. Had to wait for the check. Easily the worst service that I have ever had in a restaurant in this country.

DONT EVER EAT HERE!!! I called and asked some questions, the lady couldn’t understand what I was asking and I asked do you want a law suit, she said yes. so Im going forward with it.

Ugh… this place was so delicious the first time we ordered. its good food but they NEVER get your order right. I’m paying for this meal so i’ll speak up and tell them my order is wrong and they try and blame me that I’m the one who ordered wrong… hmmm no I order the SAMETHING every time. The lady on the phone screamed at my husband and told him he was a liar… stay away from this place.

We’ve eaten here before and decided to try it again two weeks ago. Service was excellent and attentive. The quality and quantity of the food was GREAT! Very fresh ingredients, served at the right temperature. I’d recommend wholeheartedly.

When my sisters and I are in town visiting our parents, we often order out for Asian food. We frequently order from the Golden Phoenix, and it’s usually pretty good as I rarely venture away from lo mein. Tonight I was particularly in the mood for soup though, so I got Udon Soup with Shrimp. Either they messed up my order or their «soup» doesn’t contain much broth. When my dad brought the order home, I just got a tray of the noodles and shrimp, and ended up making it into soup myself since it was the whole point of me ordering something different. While it’s pretty decent food, this was rather upsetting after traveling 3 hours.

We ordered take last night from this restaurant for the last time. We used to be regular customers but the quality of food is gone. Last night we ordered sesame chicken and pad Thai. The chicken was literally missing its sauce. There was less than a third of the chicken with any sauce at all and was so hard couldn’t eat it. The pad Thai was bland, sticky /​gummy and missing any flavor. the peanuts were also missing. There’s a place in Penfield with much better food!

I was a bit wary ordering from this restaurant after reading the multiple negative reviews, which seem to be recent. I did choose take out, so maybe that makes a difference but the Sesame Tofu I received was so good! I felt obligated to write something positive, since I was pretty impressed overall. I will definitely be ordering from here again soon. Maybe even right now. Writing this while hungry was a terrible idea…

Absolutely horrible! I don’t understand how this place went downhill! I got a sesame chicken lunch combo. The online menu says you can ask for just white meat. I did this in the discription box. What I got was cold sweet and sour fried chicken barely tossed in sesame sauce. The chicken hurt my teeth to chew. I had fried rice as my side. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE FRIED RICE! It had a small piece of egg. It too was cold. The only semi-​good part was the eggroll and egg drop soup, which thankfully filled me up. I threw out all of the chicken and rice. What a waste of money! Never again!
Also of note, when we arrived, the server was cutting up green beans out of a plastic bag on a table. No cutting board. No sanitary precautions. I wouldn’t be suprised if the health department shuts this place down quickly!

My family and I went there last night after attending our daughters high school program. We were the only customers in the restaurant, so of course we received great service. Our food was served quickly. I just read some of the reviews and I have to say I did not experience any of the negative. The food was very good and we enjoyed it. Being from California where there is a selection of chinese food resturants compared to here this one seems to do the trick. They are not expensive and will cook the food to our liking. We usually prefer our dishes spicy and they will accommodate our request. I posted a picture of the orange chicken we ordered and it was delicious. The only thing I would recommend is not ordering the fried rice. It was very bland and no vegetables. You are better off ordering the steamed rice and using soy sauce if you want flavor in your rice.

Last time I came home to New York I ate here. They literally were screaming that we did not order enough and told us we had to pay two dollars for the clean linen on the table we said fine only because we were hungry and didn’t wanna leave to find some other place to eat. When the bill came everything was scribbled in and they were trying to add 12 dollars to our bill after telling them we were ready to call the police the bill matched what we ordered. Seriously I’m surprised to see their still in business.

I’m absolutely baffled by the positive reviews. Spent $ 23 total on 2 combos. Forgot 1 Eggroll, charged us for 2. They used dark meat for the sesame chicken. Golden Phoenix was a «1 and done» for me.

I have be going to the Golden Phoenix for the better part of 10 years now. I always have a great experience. The food is hot, fresh and the service is great. Always nice and quiet so you don’t have to shout to your table mates. The menu is extensive to say the least and they have a nice thai selection as well. I find the quality of the food to be a notch above the typical «fast food chinese» that you get elsewhere. Highly recommend!

Our family has been going to Golden Phoenix for decades. They have a huge menu and include Gluten free dishes. The service has always been excellent. The food is very good. The restaurant is clean and pleasant with soft music in the background. A real dining pleasure.

Love this place!

Did the take out option again. Moo shu pork, GF house special fried rice, and GF pork with brown sauce. All were tasty, hot, and ready exactly when they said it would be. They do a good job of explaining what they can and can’t do Gluten Free. So far, there have been no problems which is surprising given the huge possibly of cross contamination. I do find it odd that there never seems to be the same people working in this place. A good reliable source for Chinese, reasonably price for the amount of food served.

I have been going to Golden Phoenix since i was young kid. However, I went there for lunch two days ago and suffered from some bad food poisoning after eating the Kung Pao chicken and fried rice. I never get food poisoning so this came as a surprise. The chicken tasted funny as well. I have always liked this place, but those days are over. I will not test my luck any further with visits to the Golden Phoenix. Consumer beware!

Our first visit was on a late Saturday afternoon. It was clean, the service was excellent and food was very fresh and delicious, not greasy and carefully prepared. We will be back again. :)

Let me preface this review by saying that my family has been going to Golden Phoenix for at least 15 years. We used to go every Friday night, and every holiday, birthday, you name it, we were there. My mom was saying that they probably spent about $ 600-​$ 800 every six months there (family size is 4). They have always had the best food and waiters. Then there was a new owner that took over… that is when we stopped going.
My mom, sister and I decided to go there for lunch this past weekend (Sunday) and as always, the food was wonderful. It was lunch on a Sunday, so they weren’t busy at all, and there was sufficient service staff. The reason that we will never return to this place again, is when the owner (yes, the OWNER) brought us our main dishes (which everyone shares) and took each of our big spoons, that we had already used to eat with, and stuck one in each of the main dishes for serving spoons. We were shocked!!! It is a good thing we were all family and it really didn’t matter to us, but in general– disgusting! It really doesn’t take much to use three clean spoons for the main dishes… you’re gonna have other dishes to wash anyway! So, we will never return because the new owner really is a stingy man who only cares about how much money and time he can save by cutting corners and not really thinking about his customer base. Their food is still wonderful (props to the chefs!) but with that kind of service… I won’t eat my food with dirty silverware. I mean if they do that, what other corners are they cutting???

This restaurant has the most extensive menu in existence. It has a Chinese menu, a Thai menu, a Low Fat menu, a Vegetarian menu, and the most wonderful thing – a Gluten Free Menu!
About 1 in 133 people have a gluten intolerance yet restaurants generally don’t even know what it is or which of their products contain gluten.
The few restaurants that do have gluten free menus are usually big chain restaurants. It stinks to always have to go to franchises to eat. Many times the servers at these restaurants still don’t know anything about the gluten free offerings so you run the risk of having food that is cross contaminated. Also these big box restaurants usually don’t even have very many gluten free offerings.
The Golden Phoenix has an extensive and delicious gluten free menu and the servers and proprietors seem to have knowledge about gluten intolerance.
I also like that they bring you hot tea. That’s a sign of a good Chinese restaurant.
