I can’t believe this place is gone. This was one of the best Chinese places to go. It was my personal favorite in fairfax. It was sad to not see their logo on the building while driving down 50. Please tell me this is just a nightmare and that they just moved to a different location!

Yeah, it is horse s*** that this place closed. It was easily my favorite Chinese restaurant in Fairfax, and I ate there at least once every other week. I really have no idea why they closed down, because every time I went in there to either dine-in or carry-out it there was a good crowd. I really hate to see it when a good restaurant closes its doors after being in business for so long. House Of Lion was open for at least 15 years. Sad.

This was a great local Chinese place in Fairfax City. The service was very good. The food was very good and priced reasonably. Unfortunately, it closed sometime in February 2011. Sign on the door says something called Asian Café is coming soon.

Went here on yet another attempt to find a cozy, old-school style Chinese restaurant with great food in Fairfax. This place isn’t quite it. They have the menu you’re probably used to and the familiar ritual of bringing you tea and fried wonton strips with your meal, but I can’t call it cozy. The dining area is too large, for one thing. I think that could be compensated for with the right décor, but this place is in need of some touch-ups. The tablecloths and dinnerware are dingy, and we were seated facing a ladder and drop cloth that had been pushed into a corner. Not a great first impression. Still, I can overlook that for great food. But the food is not great. The wonton strips were soggy, and the tea and wonton soup were both weak. The cashew chicken was ok, but sort of fatty, and the general tso’s chicken, though labeled spicy on the menu, was not spicy in the least and was, instead, coated in a gummy sweet sauce. Service was prompt and friendly but, unfortunately, that’s not enough for me to go back.

I got a delivery from them late afternoon because I was starving and needed to kill time before a very late dinner. The Szechuan bean curd seemed very nicely seasoned(though I’m not as confident about my hunches with this cuisine), and made for a great(heavy) snack.

I’ve driven by this place over 100 times, and never knew what was inside. Those bright shining red letters, «House of Lion». Well Unilocalers, I can safely say there IS no lion inside. I’ve been meaning to try this place, but not finding any recent reviews online, i was a bit skeptical. Well, thankfully the perfect oppurtunity arose tonight. I went to dinner with a mainland chinese grad student couple who happened to live nearby. I walked into the place, and immediately noticed the spacious dining room. There were 3 different sections with clothed tables. Ironically though, the place was practically empty. The waiter asked if we wanted the chinese menu or the american. I quickly said chinese, wanting their«authentic» menu. Well, the whole menu was in chinese with no english subtitles so i was quick to defer to my 2 guests. They ordered 3 dishes, roast duck, beef and onions, and pork in fish sauce. All 3 were above average, although the roast duck seemed overpriced and a tad salty. The portions seemed a tad smaller though than other chinese restaurants. I wish i could give a more complete review, but I encourage people who can read chinese to visit the place and find out more for the chinese illiterate.
