Only buy a Brookfield home if your idea of a dream home is a living nightmare. Poor quality; poor subcontractors; profit driven at the expense of your largest investment. No one escapes a bad builder.

This review is just for the sales department sitting inside the Renwick Model Townhouse. I have visited anywhere between 15 – 20 model homes with 5 – 6 different builders in the last month and I have never had any bad experience. All of those sales folks were very polite and the most important they were all not judgmental. However, the experience I had with Brookfield Homes sales dept was really bad one. I understand that sales guys asks about how much our budget range is. But, I haven’t seen anyone asking on how i came up with that budget number and almost as if I have to justify to him if whether I can afford that property. He kept on asking questions. Reading this might feel like it was not a big deal. But, if you were standing there you would have witnessed that it was little rude for someone being so judgmental on where you stand financially and questioning your decision making. One thing I will say, I will probably buy a property in and around Ashburn area within next 6 months and I will guarantee that it is not with Brookfield Homes. *************EDIT********** — Thanks to Brookfield… I bought a house with another builder and I am happy…

We bought a Brookfield home three years ago because we liked the unique floor plans they offered. Although they were completely inflexible when it came to making even the smallest of modifications to our home, we did think they did a thorough job during the building phase. But, the real problem is that as soon as we signed the papers, customer service went out the window. It was almost impossible to get information from Tyler Sutherland, the Brookfield agent we used, and any time we’ve had questions or concerns about our home Brookfield has been less than cooperative. It seems that as soon as they get their money, they wash their hands of their customers. We’re happy with our home, but we won’t be buying from Brookfield again because of their lack of customer service.

Oh boy. Where do I start… I have clients that really liked the Brookfield models at the Preserve at Goose Creek, and very much wanted to buy one. I provided warnings about how the contract is written(very one sided), and what few guarrantees are given to them. I also told them that most builders believe that word of mouth is important, and so they at least try to make the customers happy and try to keep the promises which are not enforceable. That second statement may be untrue in the case of Brookfield. I have sold a lot of new construction homes this year, and no process has been more frustrating and disappointing. Sales Process: The sales manager, Tracie Elkin, really didn’t do a great job. She sold the home, so mission accomplished, but her customer service and communication skills are seriously lacking. She made no efforts to reach out to the buyers to tell them of significant delays or material changes in the development plan(ie the cul-de-sac of 7 houses they purchased on is now a thru street and will have an another street with 20+ houses on it). Construction Process: I do give consideration that Lennar is the developer, and Brookfield has no control over them, and much of the delays were developer related, but a huge amount of frustration came from Brookfield failing to communicate the status. They waited until we’d inquire and then said«any day now» the house would be started. This went on for months. My clients should have been moving in March, they settled today(9⁄16). Even once the development issues were resolved, and building permits were issued, Brookfield STILL couldn’t run the schedule on time. This time, they said there is a lack of carpenters…(Did you hear that? All you carpenters looking for work need to call Brookfield ASAP because they don’t know how to find you.) So in the last few weeks they slapped the house together, and the work is sloppy. Even at settlement, there are significant issues yet to be resolved — moving lights that were not put into the right place, replacing every shelf in every cabinet because they are all falling apart, moving an AC unit… UGH. Overall I give them 0 stars, but I went with 2 because my clients still like their house… despite Brookfield’s effort to make them hate it. If any future clients or friends are considering purchasing through Brookfield, I urge them to be very cautious and set their expectations low. At least in this case Brookfield did NOT do better than their contract requires. Interested in learning how other builders can do a better job for you? I can help.
