I was up visiting family and a group of us went to lunch here. It’s a very homey feeling place and the staff is very great and accommodating. The food was pretty good most people ordered the Reuben Sandwich which was delicious. I ordered the fish which was ok but the portion did seem a little on the smaller side. It came a side which consisted of 3 potatoes. I would recommend this place if you are in the area for a nice casual and relaxing lunch.

Let’s get real Real seafood real yummy bread really special complimentary relishes And really strong Vodka gimlets Everything at the Fair Haven is always consistent and delicious. Anyone complaining about the prices or the atmosphere, or the service, should check out the new Lakehouse restaurant on Lake Bomoseen under new ownership. For a reality check Celebrate with family and friends your special moments at the Fair Haven! Running a consistently good restaurant is probably one of the hardest things to do the family that runs the Fair Haven has done that for many many years.

Sadly they have lost their edge. Ive been coming to The Fair Haven Inn for over twenty years. Ive never had a complaint on the service or quality or value of what Ive been served. I went Friday evening, 7÷24÷15 and was beyond disappointed. 7:00 and they are out of veal. They have a minimum of four veal dishes, it must have been a hot commodity that night. The wait staff was chaotic and very unorganized. It was busy and I think they may have had some new help. We were all very understanding and changed dishes when handed the incorrect item. The bread was served after the salads and appetizers, not while we waited and that seemed off but again nothing we couldn’t handle. It was when we got the dinners that we all exchanged glances. This is not The Fair Haven Inn we have grown accustomed too. My healthy option of Halibut was swimming in butter. My side was 11⁄3 baby carrots and 3 string beans. All of the plates at the table had the same sad display. My 24.95 fish ‘special’ had no flavor at all. One of our diners got the lobster and was given the lobster utensils & bowl 15 minutes after being served his lobster. We are easy going diners and can understand a wait, price increases, and running out of items, but all of this on one night was a huge disappointment. The décor is a bit garish but we have never come for the décor. Sadly there doesn’t seem to be a desire to uphold the quality and value of their history. They are the only game in town and it feels as if they have stopped trying to empress and are falling back on their reputation of the past. It used to be a special trip to come here, now we will save the time and the money. As for those of you claiming there is nothing in Rutland, there is consistency and quality in Southside Steakhouse and Table 24. They make you feel like they want your business, and want you to return.

I moved to fair haven in fall and was sad there is nothing nice around to do or eat. But now fair haven inn is one of THEBEST place I have ever dinned. The food was to die for. It is Greek Resturant. So delicious, perfectly cooked veggies and meat. Everything we had was delicious, My fav was Mussel, the sauce was great hot and spicy. They have great service. The environment was perfect, cosy, elegant. Not too pricey for quality of service and good they offer. Definitely going back. It’s in walking distance.

I’ve eaten at the Fair Haven Inn many times over the years and remember a time when it was a destination restaurant for dinner. I often have business lunches there and have never had a bad meal. This week I enjoyed lunch with a friend. I had the Chef’s Salad with chicken and he had the Reuben Sandwich — it was so big, he took the rest home in a doggie bag. Both meals were excellent and in generous portions. We also enjoyed the free loaf of bread before our meals arrived. The restaurant is spacious and clean, and the staff is very professional, albeit a tad bit reserved. If it was closer to my hometown(Rutland), I’d eat there more often.

See my original review. This is one of my all time favorite dining places. Michaela, the hostess owner is irresistably lovely and the entire wait staff offers seamless excellence in service. We were attended to by 3 servers, all who were pleasant ly professional, catering to our every whim. My recent visit last week was outstanding and as delicious, as ever. Got there before 6PM so 2 of us ordered from the Prudential Menu, which is a total bargain offering many entrees priced around $ 12.00. Our filet mignon was gently resting under a demi-glacé sauce that was rich and robust, with bleu cheese crumbled atop. The prime beef? Prepared to absolute perfection [I ordered it rare] and without a doubt was the most tender, butter soft meat I can ever recall. My brother ordered a steak off the elaborate steak menu and was equally pleased with it. Wines? Fine! The Greek salad? Not to miss. Our appetizers: Clams succulent and flavorful; I have to have the calamari and oh the escargot??? Will not miss them the next time I visit, which will surely be in just a few more weeks. I ended the event with a flourless chocolate cake and took most of it home. Heavenly in Vermont, that’s what I call this fine restaurant. Have yet to experience a moment of disappointment. Warm fire, sparkling lights make it festive. Glad always to be there. Total bill for 3 of us, drinks, desserts, appetizers, entrees was under $ 120.00. Unbeatable!

Shame on anyone who bashes this gem. This place is like an Oasis — there is nothing else around there! Prime rib, chicken parmesan, calamari — all good and a decent, affordable wine list. This place is better than anything in Rutland — trust me. And Apu — It’s not overpriced

Frozen vegetables, fish and simply not at all worth the money. As the saying goes for the newly wed or nearly dead — bland, uninspired, overpriced

Drove two hours to Fair Haven to buy slate for my entry floor(I highly recommend Camara Slate!) The salesman suggested eating lunch in the bar at the Fair Haven Inn. We took them up on his recommendation, and were not disappointed. The menu is a funny mix of Greek and Seafood. I had a panko crusted soft shell crab sandwich($ 8.50), and my companion had a chicken gyro. As other reviewers have noted, the service was indeed ‘leisurely’, and the food took quite a while to arrive, but it was worth the wait. The large crab was crispy and moist, served on a delicious toasted bun, and the gyro was so full it had to be eaten with a fork. We will definitely return when we come through Fair Haven again!

We’ve visited the Fair Haven Inn several times, and although the food is ok to good, the service is awful. It’s not that they are really bad, just terribly slow! I think it may be due to the fact that they share the service to your table, so you will probably have several of the wait staff taking care of you. But because of this, they lose or forget your drink orders and I just cannot take waiting that long for my food!

OK — The Fair Haven Inn is a mixed bag of good and not so good. When you ask if the fillet mignon you are considering ordering has been tested for mad cow, they look confused and cannot answer. Even McDonald’s only buys beef that has been tested for mad cow. And there is nothing organc on the menu. But the staff is friendly and most everything on the menu tastes as you would expect — generally good. The one really spectacular dish they prepare is the calamari appetizer. The staff is very friendly, and it’s the most popular«nice» restaurant in Fair Haven. The place is always clean and neat. A lot of locals eat in the bar, where the prices are a bit lower for the same meals compared to in the dining room. My favorite entrees are the florentine chicken and the pepper encrusted pork tenderloin. This restaurant specializes in pseudo-greek cuisine.
