On The Border Mexican Grill & Cantina

Not the place to go for authentic Mexican. You go right down the street to Plaza Azteca for that! — but that being said we were looking for a quick lunch and just happened to stop here. What really irked me about this place is our waitress came over — took our drink order and immediately said «I will be bringing fresh chips to your table — how about some queso to go with the chips?» — and we said «sure» because she made it sound like it was complimentary — which a lot of Mexican restaurants do — bring chips and salsa or something out to the table while you wait for your food. Very sneaky lady — because at the end our bill was $ 8 higher because of that lame microwaved queso. Apparently they do give chips and salsa complimentary — but she felt the need to make the bill a little higher probably since we were one of 3 tables occupied in the place. That’s just bad customer service.

Not bad, not great. Too bad there’s no other decent Tex mex restaurant nearby with good veggie options. Would rather goto Don Pablo’s but there is none nearby.

The salsa was bland and did not taste homemade. I was disappointed with my meal. It was extremely salty and did not taste fresh. Next time I am in the mood for Mexican, I will go for something more authentic rather then a chain with mediocre food.

Usually can tell from the salsa if it’s gonna be good or not and the salsa tasted like it was caned and they added one thing fresh into it. They were very busy at the time. So I did not had great service. The food was decent nothing amazing but again tasted like the refried beans or canned and the sauce was canned as well.

Ordered online, no record of order when I got there to pick it up. I then proceeded to wait for 45 minutes and never once did a Manager apologize. Will not be coming back

During our visit to the bar that was not crowded we got very slow service had to request additional margaritas. They were not very attentive and probably could have sold more. Very disappointing and will not come back bartender attitude was like he didn’t want to work here and we were a bother.

Tried this place for the first time and it will be the last. Service: 1 star for attitude, Food: 1 star except for the 4 star dessert.
Arrived Saturday at 11:30am, there was only 1 other couple seated, nobody at the entrance desk. Waitress came out of the kitchen a minute later, seemed to ignore us then came to the desk and seated us. She had a good attitude (whenever we could find her). Gave us chips/​salsa, took our drink order, gave her our choices at 11:40, then it got pathetic.
The chips were ½ covered with shiny wet oil and the salsa was spicy and harsh. Asked for dry chips, she obliged with some that were only ¼ covered in oil. Our food finally arrived at the table at 12:02 — 22 minutes with only 1 other couple and a third group of 4 came in at 11:45? — and our waitress was nowhere to be found for those 22 minutes. What really floors me is how many staff were running around in such a disorganized manner (about 8) starting about 11:50 or so (except our waitress).
Food was pure salt — big time, just as others reported. My wife had shrimp fajitas with rice and black beans, I had the same with chicken. The chicken was OK, but the shrimp, rice, and beans were unbelievably salty — I’ve never had rice so salty in my life! The Black beans were edible if your drained them of the super salty black juice they were sitting in, though still too salty.
We were able to snag our waitress at 11:30 and asked for a brownie sundae for dessert. That took 10 minutes to arrive, so I asked her to bring the check immediately when the dessert came since we need to leave shortly. Seeing how it was all going she had the check in her pocket and gave it to us immediately then left. At this point, there were 11 tables seated including ourselves, at least 8 staff still running around all over (mostly NOT waiting tables), our waitress still missing. Although my credit card was clearly visible, I had to ask the waitress from the next table (who seemed to always be in the area and very accessible) if she could take our check. She said sure, then hunted down our waitress and gave it to her. We got it a few minutes later, signed it and split.
Good restaurants deliver good food in a very reasonable time and keep the wait staff easily accessible. 22 minutes with nobody there is ridiculous, and how long does it take to throw a brownie on a plate, top it with a scoop of ice cream and squirt some sauce on it? We were given no reasons/​excuses for the long delays and quite frankly, there are none — this place is clearly poorly managed in the kitchen and dining room.

Great service but so-​so food. Tex-​Mex Salad was missing bacon and cabbage. had little cheese and avocado and the dressing was tasteless. Husband’s fajitas we’re okay but again, there wasn’t enough cheese served with them. Kids meal (Mexican dinner) had good rice and beans. The child would have liked sour cream with her taco.

Food is delicious and service is always great. You have to try the table side guacamole it’s the best. As a matter of fact I recommend you just keep coming back and try the entire menu because it’s awesome! Oh and you have to try a Coronarita.

I really regret going here. The food was terrible. It came to our table cold. The chips were stale the meat was dry. and for some reason they put corn in with the rice

My girlfriend and I are regular customers here. We have not always had outstanding service, but the food has always been good. Recently we went for dinner and there was a sense of urgency about the staff that we hadn’t seen before. It was refreshing to see. We ate our meal and we left. The next morning, I realized I had left my wallet on the table. I waited for them to open, I called and spoke to Carlo. I informed him of who I was and why I was calling. He was outstanding. He showed genuine concern, probably more concern than me that my wallet was lost. He tried looking me up on Facebook, totally going above and beyond. As always we will continue to frequent this restaurant.

Excellent service. Very friendly staff. My meal was not as warm as it should have been. Even the soup, which tasted great, was luke warm. Also, my entrée was a little too salty for my tastes.
Overall, I would come here again and give them another shot. They were excellent with our kid and even gave us a very big bag of chips and salsa to bring home

Stopped in for a quick bite with my daughter. She is a vegetarian so ordered her meal with no meat. Plate arrived with chicken, we waited 10 minutes to get our servers attention. We then asked for a vegetable taco for times sake. She received her original order sans chicken delivered by the chef with apologies and told that we would not be charged for her meal. Food was ok. Not great. When check arrived her meal was still on the bill. I used a gift card and my credit card for remainder. My spent gift card was returned but not my credit card which I did not realize until next day. Had to waste 45 minutes retrieving my card. This meal was way more effort than it was worth. I will not return

I used to come here quite a bit with an old «friend» and her family. We would get the Guac which they prepare in front of your table –mhhhm tasty!
I love Mexican food and the food at OTB was no different. To this day I consider it very simple yet quite tasty meal.
My girlfriend and I hit up OTB a few times a year and we have always enjoyed it. The last time we went was on a Friday night because we had to take it easy (aka no bars that night). We both ordered a satisfying meal which oh by the way was under $ 10.00 a plate along with a pitcher of Margaritas which was quite tasty.
I don’t necessarily understand what the reason behind the low Unilocal review for OTB is but I would respectfully disagree with most yellpers. Always had a great time here and hoping it will continue.

I knew moving from California to Pennsylvania finding a good Mexican restaurant would be a challenge, unfortunately I was right with this chain restaurant… sigh!
The service was slow to approach us, sat for at least 10 minutes before being greeted, not a good sign. Actually my daughter and I were about to leave when the server stopped to say he would be right back, he just caught us.
Now here is my main issue with this restaurant, I have never been in a restaurant, that drinks did not have prices. There was a substantial amount of margarita and speciality drinks listed but no prices??? Food costs change much more often than booze, I know, I was a long time Food and Beverage Director for Hyatt hotels. I travel all over the world and even in China the menus have prices. When I asked the server why there are no prices, he says that the company never puts prices for drinks on their menus, again WHY?
So I asked how much was the gold margarita, his response is probably around $ 10, oh my, he didn’t have a clue what the price was? So I order it anyway, when the bill came, it was $ 7.49– enough said.
PS food was good, not great but good.

It seems like once a year I make the mistake of coming here and then completely regretting it. Today was no exception!
I’ll start out by saying, I gave a 2 star rating because the service was pretty good. Aside from that, the restaurant is dirty and in need of a renovation and the food is: tasteless (or equivalent to Taco Bell), greasy, low quality, and way overpriced for what you get. I could name a lot of things in detail that are wrong with on the border, but instead I’ll just say: drive an extra mile to Chipotle!

Went there for a birthday lunch — what a nightmare.
Menu was sticky and dirty. I am sure all the food is frozen ready to defrost, dried out brisket quesadilla sitting in a pool of grease. All the food looked microwaved, as it was very hot. dried out (meat), soggy mush … very bland; no spicy/​seasoning flavor. No hot sauce on table, which I had to get myself as the waiter disappeared even though the place was empty. Service was terrible, he just didn’t care.
Only positive thing as the glass of beer.
Overprices, store bought, frozen, bland mush. We will never return — how I miss the Texas Mexican authentic restaurants compared to this fast food Mexican chain restaurant.

Was not impressed by this place at all. Food was average at best. The chips and salsa again just average also what kind of Mexican restaurant doesn’t have hot sauce on the table not even one bottle of Tabasco.
Service was poor. We gave the waitress a coupon for free queso but it was still on the bill. When I pointed it out to her she offered no apology just shrugged her shoulders and said oh that didn’t come off.
Floor was dirty with old straw wrappers and broken chips under the table. Bathroom was something out of a horror film with piss around the toilet trash was over flowing. Yes I know people are pigs but it looked like they hadn’t cleaned the place in a week.

The food was pretty good. I enjoyed the fish taco. Service was mediocre. For you average quick good Mexican food go here.

We were here for a send off and they had to accommodate 27 people and they were able to pull it off without a hitch. Generally setting up that many people and with all their adjusted orders and also making sure getting it right is a tall enough order and they pulled it off with great service!
The only reason I took a star off was because the food was warm, so I suspect they had it prepare in advance (we did early order to get everyone good at the right time).
So if you are looking for a quick bite from this chain restaurant this particular franchise has done a nice job!
